Q3. (2 Corinthians 8:9) What riches did Christ have according to this verse?

The riches prior to Him assuming human form. This is probably best taught in Paul’s majestic hymn about Christ in Philippians 2:6 (Possessor); John 1:3; Colossians 1:16-17 (Creator) of the heavens and the earth, basically He had All that which comprises royalty beyond our comprehension. He was as well rich as it relates to His divined nature.

How did he become poor?

Philippians 2:7-8 He was not a destitute beggar. He became poor by assuming human nature, with all its weaknesses and imperfections, he appeared not as a Lord, but in the form of a servant; he endured reproach and shame, and also experienced death. He emptied himself of all his divine prerogatives and humbled himself – and ultimately died for us and for our sins.

In what way were we poor?

We were deficiency spiritually, many of us were poor spirited, which differs greatly from being poor in spirit.

In what way have we become rich?

We become enriched by and through Him as He graces us with His Spirit. We become rich as we embrace the truths of the Gospel, of His Gospel. We become rich as we become inheritors of riches in heaven.

Q3. (2 Corinthians 8:9)

What riches did Christ have according to this verse?

How did he become poor?

In what way were we poor?

In what way have we become rich?

Jesus Christ was all that God was – eternally rich. By coming to earth He made Himself nothing, taking on the very nature of a servant. He humbled Himself and then by dying on the cross became even obedient to death. Jesus Himself said in Luke 9:58, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." We were once sinful paupers and only through grace have we become rich in the righteousness of God.

Q3. (2 Corinthians 8:9) What riches did Christ have according to this verse? How did he become poor? In what way were we poor? In what way have we become rich?

Christ had spiritual riches. He is the Son of God and came from Heaven's throne, the Holy One, perfect and pure, none like Him. He was in perfect communion with His Father and did His will perfectly. He was without sin.

He became poor, by becoming human, born in mean circumstances to a poor family, he had nothing special about His appearances that would make us notice him. He had no home to call His own and no where to lay His head. He was hated, despised and scorned by religious authorities, yet was a friend to sinners and those in need. He became a servant to all. He became poor, like us, to save us and share the Spiritual treasures He had. Unless He became like one of us and died for us, we could never share in Heaven's riches.

In what way were we poor? Lacking in Spiritual knowledge, we were sinners with no direction and no one to lead us home.

In what way have we become rich? We have received our Salvation. We have become children of God. Heaven is our home and we now have the Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us through our journey here on Earth. Christ is our shepherd and we are never without care or truth in our lives. We have been delivered from sin.

Q3. (2 Corinthians 8:9) What riches did Christ have according to this verse?

Jesus possesses all that exists...all that He created. He possessed God-hood with His Father and the Holy Spirit who are co-creators, and are the triune God. He possessed constant love and fellowship with the God-head. He possessed perfect holiness.

How did he become poor?

He left the majesty and glory of Heaven to become a man of flesh and blood, with all of its' limits to come to earth and be born in a dirty stable. He lived a life of poverty and homelessness, possessing no earthly possessions but a seamless woven cloak. He died the death of a convict on a cross, taking the sins of the entire world on His body, along with all of the wrath of God toward that sin. He was buried in a borrowed grave and tasted death so we don't have to face that dread and horror, but instead we go instantly into His presence when we die.

In what way were we poor?

Before we received His free gift of salvation, we were poor, blind and naked spiritually, in bondage to Satan, trapped in our sin and fallen nature, facing an eternity in hell, apart from God, and with no way to save ourselves...without hope or help.

In what way have we become rich?

When we are in Christ, He is in us...that wonderful mystery and the hope of Glory. We have become joint heirs with Him...all that is His He shares with us. We have this promise: And My God shall supply all my need according to His riches in Glory in Christ Jesus. We no longer face the dread of the second death and separation from Him. He have been given an abundant life here on earth and the freedom to enjoy life and service to Him, along with unbroken fellowship with Him. We are never alone...He is always with us, in us, interceding for us, loving us and we are clothed in His robe of righteousness, completely forgiven of all sin and unrighteousness. That is the most amazing exchange...we are unspeakably rich, beyond our ability to take it all in!

Jesus had all the riches we could imagine that the creator of this universe possessed.

He voluntarily gave them up to come to earth as a man to die for us.

We were poor spiritually--we were dead, actually. We were badly in need of a saviour.

After Jesus died for us, and we accepted what He did for us, we became heirs of Jesus Christ! Many spiritual blessings in Him!!

What riches did Christ have according to this verse?

Jesus is the Son of God, a part of the Triune Godhead. Everything in this world belongs to Him, all of the splendour of the world is His. More than that He sits at the right hand of God, on the throne of God. The worship of the angels and all creation is His. All of the glory, honour, dominion and power is His. He is rich beyond measure.

How did he become poor?

He gave it all up to become human like us. He stripped Himself of all that He is and became like His creation and sought a lowly place among us.

In what way were we poor?

We were dead in trespasses and sins, serving the god of this world while refusing to serve the true and living God.

In what way have we become rich?

When we accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour we become co-heirs with Christ. We have a new Spirit, a new name and a new home, Oh Hallelujah! We have peace which surpasses understanding, we have joy unspeakable and full of glory!

Q3. (2 Corinthians 8:9) What riches did Christ have according to this verse? How did he become poor? In what way were we poor? In what way have we become rich?

Christ was rich because the Earth is the Lords and everything in it, he had everything before the incarnation, and does again now. He became poor by being born as a man into a poor family. We were poor in spirit, we become rich through the exchange at the cross and through us entering into the New Covenant.

How did he become poor?

Christ became poor when he left His place of glory with the Father and the Holy Spirit and became man, taking upon himself the form of a servant unto God, his Father, and in His obedience to doing the will of the Father, Christ humbled himself to the cruel death of the Cross, taking upon himself the form of a servant unto mankind, as He took on himself the sins of the world, so that God's righteousness would be imputed unto us.

In what way have we become rich?

Christ was spiritually rich, a son of God and God himself, left all these previledges to be born into a poor family and lived a poor life as a carpenter's son so that I may be spiritually rich.

Christ's riches were spiritual in nature. He was the Creator of the Universe. He voluntarily laid down his crown and took on a mortal body and put aside immortality. He emptied himself of all his divine prerogatives and died for us on the cross for our sins. We were poor because we were mortal sinful humans who had no way of getting to heaven and achieving salvation without Christ's work on the cross. When we accept Christ's crucifixion and resurrection, we gain God's grace that we neither earn or deserve. This is the way we become rich.

The riches Christ had were, being Creator and Lord of the entire universe.

Christ became poor by putting aside His deity and coming to earth.

We were poor in the sense that we had a sin debt we couldn't pay on our own.

We have become rich by exchanging our sin debt with Christ's righteousness.

Q3. (2 Corinthians 8:9) What riches did Christ have according to this verse? How did he become poor? In what way were we poor? In what way have we become rich?

Christ owns it all for all of eternity.

He gave up His riches temporarily to come down and dwell with us in poverty (in more ways than one was our poverty.

Without Christ we are poor. We have a terrible eternity of suffering ahead and whille on this earth we are mean and selfish. There is no good thing in us without Christ, without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We have gained it all in Christ. We have peace with God whether rich or poor, we have joy inour Lord. We are indeed rich.

I like what Matthew Henry says: "We should be charitable toward the poor out of what we have, because we ourselves live on the charity of the Lord Jesus Christ." Amen to that!

God Bless!

Q3. (2 Corinthians 8:9) What riches did Christ have according to this verse? How did he become poor? In what way were we poor? In what way have we become rich?

Our Lord Jesus Christ has a generous grace through which all who trust in Him become rich beyond anything this world has to offer.  Jesus set aside the trappings of being the Son of God or the King of the Universe to work with humanity, to set an example for humanity, and to die on the cross for the universal atonement of human sin.  So, Jesus, didn't participate in accumulating worldly riches, fame, and wealth  because that is not why He came to into this existence.  If you are God why do you need these things anyway?  God desires love from His creation.  The riches and wealth and their accompanying trappings in this world are cheap and corrupt imitations of the real thing found in Heaven/Kingdom of God.

Jesus rejected Satan's offers in the desert because they were no big deal to Him.  Jesus had all of that  and more.  Jesus didn't need shadows of true riches, meaning, pure fellowship, and love.  Jesus came from where it all originated -- the bigger and greater reality -- Heaven.

We have become rich in completeness, peace, reconciliation with God, and the promise of life eternal in the presence of God.
