Q2. (2 Thessalonians 2:3-5; Revelation 13:5-8) What are the characteristics of the Antichrist that Paul gives in this passage? What does Revelation 13:5-8 add to our basic understanding?

In 2 Thessalonins 2:3-5 Paul desribes the Antichrist as rebellious, lawless, and doomed to destruction. He will oppose God and set himself up in God's temple. He will proclaim himself to be God.

Revelation 13:5-8 adds that the Antichrist will be allowed to exercise his authority for 42 months. In addition to his arrogance and blasphemous demeanor towards God and those in heaven, he will be allowed to make war on the saints and conquer them. He has global authority and control over humanity. Nonbelievers will worship him.

He will be lawless and rebellious. Thus he will be totally opposed to God

He will also oppose other religions, although this does not concern us we are concerned when he opposes Christ's church. It is also an indication of what to expect before Christ's return.

Since he is part of Satan's crowed he is arrogant. He exalts himself. Pride is why Satan fell and we must be careful that we don't fall as well

Just as Satan did, he will try to replace God. He wants the focus of people on himself and not on God.

And just as Satan did, he calls himself God. He will obviously have a strong spirit, thus we must be very careful and focus ourselves in God and in the Bible. We have to be very careful who we listen to and what we read. We must test everything against the Bible

Q2. (2 Thessalonians 2:3-5; Revelation 13:5-8) What are the characteristics of the Antichrist that Paul gives in this passage? What does Revelation 13:5-8 add to our basic understanding?

The characteristics of the Antichrist

1 Lawless

2 Rebels against God

3 Opposes any and every deity

4 Exalts himself

5 Takes his seat in the temple of God

6 Proclaims himself to be God

Revelations 13:5-8 calls him the beast who comes from the sea and puppet of Satan.

The antichrist will be Satan's man. He will do the bidding of Satan and the people whose names are not in the Lambs book will willingly follow him. It will not be a time of peace here but a time of terror. The world seems to be getting set for this future event as we see the love of many waxen cold.

God Bless!

Q2. (2 Thessalonians 2:3-5; Revelation 13:5-8)

What are the characteristics of the Antichrist that Paul gives in this passage?

What does Revelation 13:5-8 add to our basic understanding?

The characteristics of the Antichrist, as mentioned by Paul, are that he will be lawless, rebellious, opposed to God, he will exalt himself over and above all that is God’s, take the place of God, and will proclaim himself to be God. John adds several additional characteristics. Besides making proud boasts, he will speak unspeakable blasphemies against God and all in heaven. His authority will last only 42 months, and during this time he will make war against believers and will be allowed to conquer them. However, he will not be able to spiritually harm true believers. There will be temporary suffering for believers who refuse to worship the Antichrist, but for those who persevere, there will be the reward of eternal life. All unbelievers of the earth will worship him as he will be given authority over every tribe, people, language, and nation.

Q2. (2 Thessalonians 2:3-5; Revelation 13:5-8) What are the characteristics of the Antichrist that Paul gives in this passage, and what does Revelation 13:5-8 add to our basic understanding? ?

The characteristics of the Antichrist is one who is against Israel's Messiah and has defected from the "TRUTH" (falling away) - He Demeans God's teachings as he opposes the God of Israel, his Son, and His "LAWS."

Any man who opposes God's teachings is a "LAWLESS" and "WICKED person," setting themselves to be higher than God and His word. (This reminds me of the Garden where Satan opposed God's law, "does God really say, not to eat of the fruit" -- and mankind believed his deception)

In the Last Days there will be great "DECEPTION" from the truth and the world (those who are not written in God's book) will believe and worship this "LIE" of deception.

(Isaiah 14:13) for thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

However, we who are "FAITHFUL" and are following God's laws of righteousness are those written in the book, for the Son promised His Father's laws will be written on the heart to do them; our hearts were not easily deceived.

We are the remnant written in the book, our lives reveal God’s Glory, our trust is in God's Son and we are looking forward to the glorious day when He will set up His righteous and eternal Kingdom, where Israel and all God's people will have peace, where the wicked and the followers of Satan will be cast into hell.

He opposes Christians, and other religions, sets himself up as God--even in the temple, proclaims himself as God.

He opposes Christians and sets up a system -- mark of the beast -- making it hard to buy or sell without it.

Q2. (2 Thessalonians 2:3-5; Revelation 13:5-8) What are the characteristics of the Antichrist that Paul gives in this passage?

He will be a law unto himself and recognize no other authority

He will lead a rebellion against God and God's people

He will oppose every diety in every world religion and proclaim himself to actually be god.

He will even set himself up in God's temple!

What does Revelation 13:5-8 add to our basic understanding?

He will fake his own resurrection. He will recover from a fatal wound. That passage in Revelation had people thinking Pope John-Paul VI. Ronald Reagan, and other prominent people who'd had attempts made on their lives and had been seriously wounded were the antichrist. But I think the real anti-christ will actually appear to die and come back from the dead because it says that everyone will be awed by that.

That will be the true tell tale sign that the anti-christ has appeared. Something we need to keep watch for. Once he sets himself up the tribulation will begin. We can be watchful for signs like that. A coming back from the dead will surely make the world news. It will be such a well publicized event that everyone will hear of it. WATCH!!

Q2. (2 Thessalonians 2:3-5; Revelation 13:5-8) What are the characteristics of the Antichrist that Paul gives in this passage?

The characteristics of the Antichrist that Paul gives in 2 Thessalonians 2:3-5 are:

  1. Lawless (2:3), he rebels against God, becoming lawless -- a law to himself.

  1. Rebels (2:3b). He rebels against God by leading a worldwide rebellion or apostasy.

The Antichrist, the one opposed to God, will leads a rebellion against God -- the ultimate lawlessness!

  1. Opposes (2:4a). He will oppose any and every deity and religion, whether the true God or false gods.

  1. Exalts himself (2:4b). He will be characterized by pride, and will seek to exalt himself above all deities that are worshipped here on earth. He will allow no equals. In Paul's day, Roman emperors had declared themselves as gods, but this is something far greater.

  1. Takes his seat in the temple of God (2:4c), that is he will take the place of God.

  1. Proclaims himself to be divine (2:4d). He will not only take God's rightful place in the temple, he will announce to all that he is indeed God himself.

What does Revelation 13:5-8 add to our basic understanding?

"The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty-two months. He opened his mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast -- all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world." (Revelation 13:5-8)

In Revelation 13:5-8 the Antichrist, who is the beast, will reign for forty-two months or three and a half years. He will blaspheme God, and slandered His name. He will wage war against God’s people, and will be given authority over all the earth, and everyone whose name is not in the Lamb’s book of life will worship him.

Interestingly, in Revelation 13:1-4, the dragon gave the beast his power, and because of this the dragon will also be worshipped.

The chracteristics of the Antichrist describes him as being 1]lawless, 2]in rebellion against God, 3]opposing the true God,4]exalting himself as a 'god',

5]taking a seat in God's temple, and 6]proclaiming himself the be divine and the only one worthy of worship.

What Revelation 13:5-8 adds to our basic understanding of the Antichrist is,that He represents the exact opposite of everything that God stands for.

The Antichrist is a man of rebellion, lawlessness, doomed to destruction, self exalting over all, appoints himself to sit in God's temple and proclaims himself to be God.

Revelation 13 says that he will have a mouth to say proud words, blasphemies, and exercise his authority for 42 months.  He was given power to make war on the saints and to conquer them. He was given authority over the whole world. All will worship him except those whose names were written in the book of life which is the Lamb's book.

Q2. (2 Thessalonians 2:3-5; Revelation 13:5-8) What are the characteristics of the Antichrist that Paul gives in this passage? What does Revelation 13:5-8 add to our basic understanding?

The characteristics given in the notes are:

  1. Lawless (2:3). As we saw above, he rebels against God, becoming lawless -- a law to himself.
  2. Rebels (2:3b). He rebels against God -- indeed he leads a worldwide rebellion or apostasy. So Christ won't return until after the Antichrist appears, and the "rebellion" (NIV, NRSV) or "falling away" occurs. The Antichrist, the one opposed to God, leads a rebellion against God -- the ultimate lawlessness!
  3. Opposes (2:4a). He will oppose any and every deity and religion, whether the true God or false gods.
  4. Exalts himself (2:4b). He will be characterized by pride, and will seek to exalt himself above all deities that are worshipped here on earth. He will allow no equals. In Paul's day, Roman emperors had declared themselves as gods, but this is something far greater.
  5. Takes his seat in the temple of God (2:4c), that is takes the place of God, whose presence in the temple was once indicated by the ark of the covenant.
  6. Proclaims himself to be divine (2:4d). He will not only take God's rightful place in the temple, he will announce to all that he is indeed God himself                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Many down through the centuries have  tried to discover who this man of lawlessness is to be. But there is no way of telling even if the man is actually a man. The turn of phrase may just be a metaphor for some institution. Some have postulated the Roman Catholic church and its organization. This is unlikely. another possibility is the capitalistic economic system which is quite unfair and allows a few rich to control a large amount of the world's wealth.                                                                                                                                                                              This beast has being given a mouth to " utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority". For the past 500 years this system in conjunction with the scientific community have been blaspheming the church and try to gain authority over the church.
