God promised an unbroken line of David's sons upon the throne.

Hezekiah's death would have created a national crisis since he did not have a male heir to his throne. Even if he had a young son, an inexperienced leader would be troublesome especially with an invading army approaching.

Hezekiah was concern the God's promised unbroken line of David to the throne would cease if he died. Perhaps Hezekiah is perplexed that God would "break" His promise as stated in 2Samuel 7: 14-16.

They were in a time of great need. They needed a strong leader to see them through the danger.

They also needed a prince to follow the throne when the king died.

His healing extended his godly reign for another 15 years, and provided an heir to sit on the throne he would vacate. (Although some say he should have kept his mouth shut, because his son Manasseh, who was a wicked king, was then born, and reigned for 55 years! He established idol worship, undid all of the reforms instituted by his father, slaughtered all who opposed him, including perhaps Isaiah, his father's best friend who was sawed in half during Manasseh's ruthless reign) But in a different light, it provided continuity of leadership during dangerous times and without Manasseh's birth, Josiah the child king who was a wonderful king, would not have been born.)

God's promise was that David's throne would be established forever. The line of David would continue through the ages, pointing to Messiah Jesus, the final King to sit upon the throne forever and ever!

Hezekiah probably had no heir and at a crucial time like this when his country was under attack he felt helpless to protect his country.He also hadnt appointed anyone to succeed him in the rule of his country therefore it was important that he recovered and took stock of the situation and trained someone to lead his country .

Hezekiah had been a good king leading a life according to the will of God. God had promised “offspring and a long life to those who walked uprightly in the eyes of the Lord”  and Hezeiah was noted to have lived a righteours life. God had promised David  that he would give him innumerable descendants and make his throne remain forever i.e. held by his sucessors/ offspring in as the line of the Messiah ...Hezekiah was in the line of Davids descendents ..

At that time Israel had already fallen to the Assyrian invasion. Judah was hanging by a thread. It was Hezekiah's faith and God's response to it that were keeping the wolf from the door. If Hezekiah had died then, the country would have been in turmoil. There would have been a scramble for the throne because Hezekiah didn't yet have an heir and nothing weakens a country like the high ranking aspirants killing each other off! With Assyria at the gates, it wouldn't have been difficult for them to come in and set up a puppet king, not of David's line, and that would have been the end for the national identity of Israel! With the healing and the promise of 15 more years of life, Hezekiah then had time to shore up Jerusalem's future. It's one of the tragedies of the history of God's people that his son Manasseh was so thoroughly evil though.

God promised David that he would always have a descendant on the throne of Israel. Hezekiah was a direct descendant of David and as yet had fathered no successor. This illness may have been a test for Hezekiah. It may have been the work of God to show the people of that time and future readers of this account that earnest prayer and faith can influence God's decisions. Hezekiah prayed in the manner of the time in reminding God of His promises. I myself have been through trying times and am still experiencing them. I've taken to reminding God of His promises in the manner of the psalmists of old and I found relief in doing that. If we pray according to God's Word the prayer is effective. We can quote God's word in prayer, provided it's in context of course, and then wait on the Lord to respond. There's a far greater chance that God will answer that sort of prayer than the "Please God give me a million dollars and I'll serve you forever" garbage prayer. You know even while saying the words that you're praying rubbish. I'm using this as a ridiculous example to illustrate my point. BUT . . . If you pray God's words back to Him, you can sometimes feel the Holy Spirit within you align your mind with that of God and begin to understand why you're experiencing the trial you're enduring. It's like Paul's thorn in the flesh. When he prayed for healing he wasn't healed, but given an assurance that God's grace would sustain him.

First I believe his healing showed the power and faithfulness of the God he so relentlessly trusted in.  Second the king had no successor and the line of David would have been broken.  God promised that there would always be someone from the line of David on the throne.

 For me at this moment, this is all about submisson to a might God whose will prevails no matter who did what before. Hezekiah appears to have been very faithful in some ways. But God wanted greater humility and greater submission and thankfulness for life.

 

It is a lesson for all of us. We can't give God enough praise, glory and we can always submit deeper to Him. When the time comes He will do it to each of us, wether it is ocnvenient to us or not. For He is our creator, our God. We are lucky to be here today, to do His will as we understand it.

Hezekiah's healing was important for the nation so that the nation would not suffer without a righteous man leading the nation. Also his healing was important to make the people known that the Lord Almighty saves the righteous and hears their prayer.

Hezekiah's healing was so important for the nation because they would have been left leaderless at his death. He had no sons at this time to carry on succession to the throne and there had not been anyone appointed to the throne in the event of Hezekiah's death.

God had promised to David that His love would never be taken from him as it had been taken from Saul, and that his house and kingdom would endure forever before the Lord and that his throne would be established forever.

Hezekiah was a good king who was wholeheartedly devoted to God, and who had reformed his nation spiritually. He asked God to give him more years to live knowing that if he died his country would be leaderless as there was no heir to the throne at the time. He must also have known about the promise God had made to David, that his throne would be established forever. He knew that if he died at this moment, the nation would fall into the hands of who knows what, breaking the chain of David’s descendants. Although David’s dynasty was interrupted since the Babylonian captivity, we know it will be restored when our Lord and Saviour returns to reign over all the earth and He will reign forever.

From God's response to Hezekiah's prayer through the Prophet Isaiah (38:6), it sounds like Sennacherib's presence was still threatening Jerusalem at this time. Hezekiah's plea was not just for himself, he was a king pleading for his nation and the promises that God made to the nation, was it not the righteous prayer of "faith" that touched God, therefore he sent an angel of the LORD and put to death a hundred and eighty five thousand men in the Assyrian camp, is this not why he wept sore, because he was concerned he would go to the grave at a young age, when he did not have his house in order and would leave the government without a successor.

                Hezekiah’s healing is important to Judah for two reasons.    Firstly, from an immediate practical view the city of Jerusalem and the country Judah were being pressured by Assyria and only the strength and goodness of Hezekiah held the northern at bay.  With no strong king at the helm the country and the city would no doubt fall.  Secondly, there is the question of the promise of God to David that there would always be an heir to David.  If Hezekiah dies without an heir – what then of this promise?    What is the long future view for a David messiah?     Hezekiah is worried but God has a plan.
