Israel's oppressed state was due to disobedience in that they served other gods besides Yahweh. They broke the command "Thou shalt not worship the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live". They worshiped the fertility gods, Baal and Asheraph.

This same sin affects christians today in that we take our eyes off the Lord, allowing our flesh to rule us.

THE ISRAELITES HAD TURNED THEIR BACKS ON GOD AND WORSHIPED THE GODS OF THE AMALEKITES THEREBY BREAKING THE 1ST COMMANDMENT OF HAVING NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME. THEY HAD NOT BEEN FAITHFUL TO INSTRUCTIONS OF THE LORD AND BEGAN TO WORSHIP THE HEATHEN GOD BAAL. TODAY MANY WHO CALL THEMSELVES CHRISTIANS HAVE REJECTED GOD BY WORSHIPING MATERIAL THINGS (MONEY,CORRUPTION, SEX AND OTHER EVILS.
