When we pray in the Spirit we are praying in tongues, Seeing into the invisible ( discerning the spiritual issues and God's perspective ) is a key to victorious praying. The enemy does not understand when you pray in tongues as it is you and the Holy Spirit praying. Also pray for the understanding.

Prayer is vital to spiritual warfare because as we pray to God who knows all things, we petition Him to fight that which is unknown to us but is working against us. When we pray in the Spirit the Spirit of God is in control and enables us to pray the Father's Will.

It allows us to bring our struggles to God and ask for His guidance and mercy in dealing with them. It helps us in allowing our faith to grow as we see thelord answer our prayers and gives us a means of seeking deliverance for those who we are asking to come to know the Lord.
P raying in the Spirit means to be led by the Spirit when we don't know whom or what to pray for the Spirit at the right time will gives us the praer in our heart that we need to pray.

the Desciples asked Him to show them how to Pray. He is our good example to follow in our Prayer life if we are to defeat the devil in this world.
We are also to ask for The Holy Spirit to help us in our Prayer. He will quide us on how to Pray better.

Praying in the Spirit means bringing your spirit to the very throne room of God by cojoining yourself with His Holy Spirit, becoming one. When we cannot frame our words, the Spirit does so for us. It is simply surrendering your will to God.

Praying in the spirit simply means with the Spirit's guidance. The Holy Spirit even prays for us when we can't pray in some situations.

Without prayer we would not have God there to intercede for us, we must pray so that he can help us. Praying in the spirit is to turn our prayer over to the Holy Spirit who will gives us words to pray

Too many squabble over 'how and when to's', let's take the old Nike slogan and 'just do it'!
'Watch' was frequently the exhortation of Jesus Himself to His disciples and most significantly at the time when they needed to find strength by prayer.
The Spirit is the atmosphere of the Christian's life, and as we live in the Spirit grace will be given to watch and power to continue to prayer. The Spirit is given as a Helper, and not least for the task of prayer. (Romans 8:26-27)

With prayer and fasting this will help us in our battle in spiritual warfare, this is where we draw our strength and power. Praying in the Spirit is praying in your heavenly lanuague, when you know not what to pray the Spirit gives you utterance and pray through you.

We need to keep in touch with God at all times for guidance, directions, and support.
What doesit mean to "pray in the spirit"?
It means praying in tongues or one's spirit language. Sometimes it's hard to know how to pray for something or for a situation. By praying in tongues, the Holy Spirit acts as our interpretor, and makes our request known to God.

Praying in the spirit is praying our heavenly launguage (tongues) when we do not know words to pray. The Holy Spirit interrupts the message and delivers it the Father. Praying in the spirit is like having a direct pipeline to our Heavenly Father.

Prayer is vital to spiritual warfare, because prayer is our “wrestling” and struggle” against our enemies in a spiritual warfare, so without it we let our enemies defeat us, or we surrender and let them do what they want.
To “pray in the Spirit” means to “pray guided by or inspired by or empowered by the Spirit.”

Prayer is important because we need the help and the guidance of the Father in order to battle against the enemy of our lives. Prayer is our constant communication and lifeline to the Lord so He can be with us in all that we are fighting against the enemy. To pray in the Spirit is to be able to let the Spirit guide us during everything and in our battles.

The Spirit of The Lord can be your best friend and satan’s worst enemy. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. In other words, take him in to battle on your defense. The Spirit of The Lord can annoint you to do anything that God tells the Spirit to do. Nothing more, nothing less. The Spirit of The Lord can close your mouth, and set on you if the Hand of God must do so. The Spirit of The Lord, raised up Jesus from the dead. It can certainly raise us up to do our Fathers will upon this earth.
As for speaking in an unknown tounge, Yes I believe that the Spirit of The Lord can speak for us any time of the day if we are willing vessels of The Lord. You can also call upon The Spirit to pray for you if you fell that your needs would be better met, which in every single case, Iguarentee you that your needs will be better met. I was sick, very very sick and knew that I had been taken over by the spirit of darkness. I recognized that the enemy really was trying to kill me and I sat up and called upon the Spirit of The Lord to pray for me because I new that I would be dead if something didn’t happen soon. I had been sick with a viral infection for six days, that came straight out of the pit of hell and I knew it. Once my mouth was finished, I began to feel better in a miraculas way.
We must all know how to pray in the spirit and we must all know how to fight the spiritual battle. Other wise the Bible would not give us the aminution to do so and in such clarity. It would be a mistake to think that we are not all in the battle for our very lives and the lives of others.
Psalm 121:1-2
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
Psalm 123:1
Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.
Luke 10:19 (New International Version)
I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
Ephesians 6:11-12
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Isaiah 42:16
And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.
Matthew 16:19
And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
John 10:10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
James 4:7-8
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
2nd Corinthians 10:3-4
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
2 Corinthians 10:4-6
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
Romans 13:12
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
Romans 12-21
Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
Psalm 23-5
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Always be armed and ready…. Mark 16:16-20 tells us in plain English that if we truly believe that we will speak in new tounges. According to this passage, this is what Christ Jesus spoke just before He ascended to The Throne. Personally I would much rather speak in a new tongue than take up a serpent, but hey… what do I know… Maybe someday God will have me do that…
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. Mark 16:16-20

Prayer is necessary because we can’t do anything alone. Without God we can do nothing.
What does it mean to "pray in the Spirit"?
When we “pray in the Spirit” we are guided or inspired by the Spirit.
There is more joy in Jesus in 24 hours than there is in the world in 365 days. I know, I've tried them both.
