Both love and trustworthiness are important and the bedrock of the Old Testament as God continuously wooed the nation of Israel back to Him. Every time they backslide into idolatry, He showed them great love. Regardless of their affection towards Him God showed them His love.
What kinds of terms does the New Testament use to talk about these characteristics?
In the New Testament God shows His grace and mercy towards all who would come to Him.
Can you think of any New Testament verses that speak of these themes?
2 Cor. 12:9 in which He tells us that His grace is sufficient for us:
"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. ..." 2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV)

Why are love and trustworthiness so important as the bedrock of the Old Testament faith?
Of course, we've seen these character anchors lauded in other psalms, but as we revisit them in this short psalm don't pass them over lightly. His love and faithfulness are the bedrock of our faith:
( 1 ) God is Love. ( 2) God can be trusted. Praise God.
( 1 ) " O praise the Lord, all you nations; praise Him, all you people."
Warm desire should swell in every heart that due praise to God dhould be as the surrounding atmosphere. Throughout the world no creature lives who is not daily laden with blessings from the Creator's hand. Sad it is that the blinded eye sees not the gracious Giver, and the silent lips give no acknowledgement. This thought should quicken the heart of zeal. Warm should be our efforts to send the messengers of truth throughout the length and breadth of the earth. The constant desire should be to tell of God's love in Jesus. and to invite to the cross. Hearty praise will then sound loudly from ransomed souls.
( 2 ) "For His merciful kindness is great toward us and the truth of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord".
The merciful kindness of the Lord is a boundless theme. We see it inscribed on all the works of creation. We see it shining in the glories of redemption. What could have been done more for His people that the Lord has not done for us? The great God, even Jesus, is our full salvation. There is pardon in His precious blood for every sin. There is a covering robe in His righteousness for every transgression. There is sanctification and renewal in His Spirit for our cold hearts. The cup of grace, of mercy, and love truly overflows. It could scarcely hold another drop. The promises of the covenant are all yes and Amen in Christ. Could God give more? Let, then our grateful cry ever swell, Praise the Lord..
New testament verse ( Romans 15: 10-11)
" Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His peoples."
And again " Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and sing praises to Him, all you people."

Love is used again in the New Testament as agape love--righteous, giving, everlasting love. A love that puts others first. He loved us while we were yet sinners. I John 4:19. A Love that died for our sins. John 3:16. Faithful--I Cor. 1:9

The New Testament uses the terms love and faithful, though the KJV replaces charity for love in some instances (see 1 Cor 13, eg,). Some of the many scriptures are: for love: John 15:9, John 15:13, Rom 5:8, 1 John 4:8, et al. Faithful: 2 Tim 2:13, Heb 10:23, Rev 1:5, et al.

Why are love and trustworthiness so important as the bedrock of the Old Testament faith?
* Love and trustworthiness became pillars (faith) that God used to build the house of God with.
If you look up the word faith the Old Testament you will find there is but only one scripture that talk of faith and as we know it is the one Martin Luther discovered that changed his life.
Hab 2:4
4 "Behold the proud,
His soul is not upright in him;
But the just shall live by his faith.
God used signs and wonders in the Old Testament to build faith in His people. I like the Vine description of the word faith;
FAITH
The main elements in "faith" in its relation to the invisible God, as distinct from "faith" in man, are especially brought out in the use of this noun and the corresponding verb, pisteuo; they are (1) a firm conviction, producing a full acknowledgement of God's revelation or truth,
(from Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words, Copyright ©1985, Thomas Nelson Publishers)
That sums up the question why love and trustworthiness are bedrocks, God used them as pillars in which to instill faith (for Abraham it was stated as " he believed God"). They recalled upon the signs and wonders as acts from God that protected them, feed them, guided them and gave them a homeland. It was these things that caused them to understand that He loves them and that they could trust Him.
What kinds of terms does the New Testament use to talk about these characteristics?
1) God is alive
2) God is love
3) God is faithful
4) God gave
5) God is merciful
6) God's grace
7) God forgives
8) God supply's
9) God saves
10) God is coming so that we may see Him as He really is
Can you think of any New Testament verses that speak of these themes?
Yes, and each I give will match the number of one above
1) Matt. 28:6 Matt 28:6 "He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay."
2) 1 John 4:16 "And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him."
3) 1 Cor 1:9 "God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord."
4) John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
5) Heb 8:12 "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more."
6) Eph 1:7 "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace"
*7) Matt 9:6 "But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins"
*8) Phil 4:19 "And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
*9) Matt 18:11 "For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost."
*10) Rev 1:7-8 " Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen. 8 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End," says the Lord, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."
His name is Love and His name is Trustworthy: For He is known by His names and His name has become known to all mankind by His fruit that He produces in the Old and the New.
In the Old He is saw by signs and wonders and in the New He is seen through His Son," Jesus Christ"

2. God is merciful, loving, forgiving, patient, understanding, steadfast, always near to us, and will never leave us
3.
Heb 8: 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more
2 Thess 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil
1 Cor 1:9God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
1 John 4:10-11 Herein is <A name=36202x3>love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
Roman 5: 8-10 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Because they are the Characteristics of the one true God, aand as such make up the laws man is to live by with Loving the Lord God as the first and Loving thy neighbor as your self the next as Jesus told us.He also gave us the parable that states
So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches Luke 16:11.
Luke talks about trust and John talks a lott on the subjest of love. Our whole being is to try and be trustworthy and loving our brother and sister in Christ as our selves this is what it means to be a christian and to live any other way is to come up short.
Luke 10:27
He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind' ; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.
John 13:34
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another
Trust is a must if you love someone, first you must trust them this is often very hard and is the failure in must relationships. If we are to be in Christ then we are called to be new creations and this incorprates trust.

Because love & trust areThe 2 aspects of God's character which should result in praise & worship. As with the Father & the Son the bedrock of all Jesus' ministry is love and trust-faith. Only trust and obey for there is no other way...

1. Love and trustworthiness are so important because God showed these traits from the very beginning of time and He commanded us to do the same. He said that these traits will forever and if you have faith in him, you will trust in his promises.
2. God is faithful, kind, merciful, trustworthy, and loving.
3. John 13:34--"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
John 13:1--"It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love."
Luke 10:27-- " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'[a]; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself."
