The blood was a sign which protected the Israelites from the destruction God was bringing to unbelievers. The blood was a symbol that the house and those in it were protected by God. We as believers have experienced a day of deliverance from spiritual death and slavery to sin. God has delivered us by the blood of Jesus and gives us a new life with HIm.

Just as the Blood of these Lambs offered protection then; The Precious Blood of our Lord & Saviour, wash's away our sin's, & protects us today. "The life is in the Blood!" I believe this Blood, not seen in the natural, is seen in the spiritual realm. When the spiritual enemy's of our God, look upon us, they see the Blood of the "LAMB"!; And know, by this that we are protected. The Blood of our Lord & Saviour was spilled for all who would believe on Him, & the work done on the Cross. I would like to hear from anyone whom might have a "deeper" understanding of blood....I feel there is much more here, that we could grasp!

The blood of the lamb protected the Lord's people who were being oppressed in Egypt from being visited by the angel that was sent to kill all the firstborn in Egypt. In the same way, the blood of Christ that was shed on the cross as the Lamb of God protects us from experiencing spiritual death. Though our mortal bodies will one day die and return to the earth, we the believers and followers of the Lamb of God have been given the hope and promise that one day we will be taken up to the heavens to join our Lord. The blood of the Lamb of God has protected us from paying the ultimate price for our sins. And because of the protection that has been given to us, we have been assured of victory! Yay!

The sign to the unbelievers that God was protecting the Israelites from destruction was the blood. God delivers us from self destuction when we give our hearts to him. He gave his blood for us as a sacrifice so that we can be free from sin.

Those who had followed God's direction were 'passed over'. The blood on their door was a sign to themselves that God would spare them the punishment that others would suffer.

The Passover Lamb saved the children of Israel from death in Egypt when they put the blood on the doors. At the last supper Jesus initiated a new covenant with us that ties in with the marriage customs of his day. He offered the cup of wine as his blood and said to drink. In his day a prospective groom would offer a glass of wine to his proposed bride if she accepted it, she was accepting him. In the same way, if we accept the sacrificial work of Jesus on the cross and the blood and bread (his body and truth) we are accepting him. When we do this we are then His.

Jesus was the spotless unblemished lamb similar to the one that had to be used for the Passover Lamb at the time of the Exodus. At that time the children of Israel were allowed to leave slavery in Egypt after 400 years of bondage. Blood from the lamb was a sign to the Angel of Death at that time when it was put onto the lintels of the children of Ilrael's doors. Blood was used at the time of the first covenant with Abraham when God had Abraham part the body of the animal and he walked in the blood and said when the covenant was broken He would pay the price. As Newbie said wine was used as a covenant between a boy and girl in the time of Jesus to seal a marriage covenant. It was the custom of the day. Jesus used parables to teach. The disciples knew He was the Son of God. They also certainly would have known about the first covenant and the Passover Lamb. Jesus had told them he was going to be killed, although they probably did not really understand. They would certainly have known of the marriage custom of offering the cup of wine. So Jesus used all this background in his teaching in his message at the Last Supper. When he held up the cup and said this is my blood and the bread and said this is my body he was offering His sacrifice to them to accept or deny. They were certainly startled as this had never happened before. We have the same choice today, to accept the sacrifice of the Perfect Lamb or to reject it. If we are wise we will accept it and spend eternity with our precious Lord.

The blood of the lambs was painted on the lintel and doorposts of the people’s houses as a sign to God they had been obedient to His commands. Therefore, when God ‘Passed Over’ them their firstborn were spared. It’s interesting to see how the people were also commanded to share their lamb with those who had none, so they too could be protected. The Great commission of sharing the Gospel in a nutshell! Wow!

I guess the primary comparison is in the shedding of the Lamb’s blood. As a sign to God of the people’s obedience they displayed the blood on the entrance of their homes. Obedience that was carried out ‘In Faith’. Just as the blood of the Passover Lamb covered the people’s sin and saved their lives, so too does the precious blood of Jesus save us from certain death. It is this same obedience through faith in the blood of Jesus that God is looking for today. Jesus, in talking about the unjust judge begs the question “However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" Luke 18:8. In the same way as God passed over the people’s homes, bringing death to the firstborn of the disobedient unbelievers, one day Jesus will return to claim those who are His own (John 6:39) I pray we'll all be ready!

The blood used from the lambs on the first Passover was placed on the door post and the lentel so the angel of death would passover the members of that household. This was to safely guard and spare all first born of the children of Israel. We too experience this safe protection from the blood Jesus shed for all who believe. We shall live. but our bodies will return to the dust from which they came according to scripture. It is so great at this special time of the year taking communion. It brings to my mind the Last Supper and all the suffering that was done on my behalf. We are truly blessed that through the blood of Jesus we can come boldy to the Father and he hears us as we pray. After the first passover lamb, a spotless lamb free of blemish, the Children of Israel were set free from slavery. The death of Jesus, the spotless lamb of God who shed his own blood for us, sets us free from the worst slavery of all, our own sins. As with the first passover lamb, their doors were covered with the lamb's blood, even now our sins are covered by the blood of Christ.....I am washed in the blood of the Lamb!

The lambs blood was used by the Israelites to paint the door frames of their homes, to protect the lives of the first born males..(both men and animals) So that God would "pass over" their homes and the plague of destrution would not touch them. They were also to eat the lambs meat in haste and leave nothing..eat it or burn it...

I think the primary point of comparison is the BLOOD..The lambs blood covered the doors to protect the Isrealites for the plague of death..and Christ Jesus' blood covers us to protect us from the plague of death...

It is by their blood on the lentils and doorposts that the lambs protected Israel on the first passover. In order to obtain that blood, the lambs had to die.

I suppose it would be in that when we accept the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins, we are washed in His blood. In that way, the wrath of God will pass us over when it is time to destroy the world.

The blood of the first passover lambs smeared on the doors and doorposts marked out the households of those who God had chosen to be his people. When the angel of death came, all those under the shelter of that house were saved, simply because they had been chosen by God - not on merit - but on faith. In the same way, Christ is our passover lamb - sacrificed for us for the forgiveness of sins and sheltering us from death, not on merit but on faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

The lamb that was slaughtered, they were to take some of the blood and out it on the sides and on tops of the door frames of the house. The blood would be a sign to the Lord that the house should be saved from judgement. The primary comparsion between the first Passover lamb and what Christ did for us, our passover lamb is the shedding of blood and the setting apart of those who partake of the sacrifice. The protection is in the blood. We as christian are protected under the blood of Jesus.

The familys were protected in the way of a substitute. The lambs were the substitute.

The primary point of comparison would be that Christ served as a substitute just as the lamb served as a substitute.

+ The families were protected because of the obedience they gave to God by doing exactly as he had told them. It is worth noting that all were to share, a model for us today.

+ The comparison was of the blood shed by the Passover Lamb, which was to be perfect, and the sacrifice our Lord and Savior, for us. We are protected if we accept Jesus as our Lord. We then are to share the gospel to others in the way the Jewish families were to share the lambs with others.
