To be conformed to the likeness of his Son means to act like his son, to live and to love like his son. This supports Paul's statement with our destiny, this is the way we are to act, like Jesus.
To be like Jesus we need to act like Jesus. This is how we are to be brothers of Jesu.

For me it means you have to like Jesus, in act, in nature, in words. as Paul said we must imitate Christ. it is not i who lives, but Him who raised from the dead lives in me. it is our destiny to be like Jesus, to act like Him. God's plan for us is to be like His Son, that our character be change so that we will take the family resemblance and the people around us will see that we are Brother's and sister in Christ.

We are to be like Christ. We are to be like Him in holiness. It is God the Holy Spirit who can carry out the work of sanctification . We are to read the Word and pray and apply the knowledge we learn to our lives and let God grow is into who we are to be in Christ. All of us with unique personalities and gifts to be used for His purposes.
We are predestined to live with Jesus forever as one of many brothers and sisters. If we are conformed to the image of Christ who is eternal we also shall live with Him for all eternity as part of our conformity.
God Bless!

I think it means to take on the attitude that He had to love everyone and to do God's will for our lives. To give up our sinful nature, put it to death and to put on the armor of righteousness. In a practical sense it means live each day with God first place in your heart and mind. He is assurings us that God will reward those who chose to follow His word and become obedient like Jesue. He tells us we are brothers like Christ because we are to respect God as our Father and live in a way that brings honor to Him and as brothers we will recieve the inheritance that Jesue recieves being raised from the dead to sit with Him in the heavenlies.

What does it mean to "be conformed to the likeness of his Son"?
To be conformed to Christ is a daily process known as sanctification. This is a process that continues throughout our earthly lives – to become more and more like Jesus. Others should progressively be able to see Jesus in our lives. We read in 2 Cor 3:18 – we all … are being changed into His likeness from one degree of glory to another.
In practical terms, what does that involve in our lives?
To be conformed to Jesus, we have to strive to obey God; remembering that we cannot do it alone. We are dependent on the Holy Spirit to help us grow in sanctification. In Rom. 8:13 we read: For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, Romans 8:13 (NIV). It is by the Spirit that we are able to be conformed, but it is up to us to put to death the deeds of the flesh. In practical terms we are to read and meditate on His Word (Matt 4:4), pray (Eph 6:18), worship (Eph 5:18-20), witness (Matt 28:19-20), have Christian fellowship (Heb 10:24-25), and be self-disciplined (Gal 5:23).
Why does Paul support this statement with ideas of our destiny?
Our destiny is to be like Christ. The only way we can be with Him is if we are like Him, and if we love Him, and if we have been conformed to His likeness.
Why does he support this with ideas of brotherhood with Jesus?I think Paul is saying that Christ is always supreme above us. He is firstborn among us all; He is the highest in rank and position. In order for us to be with Him, we have to be pure, holy, and righteous.

It's encouraging to know that the process of being made like Christ is my destiny because that is my hope of glory. His holy righteousness covers me now, but will ultimately consume me, making me fit and acceptable in the Father's presence! The promise of many brethren with Jesus confirms that I am fully adopted by the Father, accepted as His child, and fellow heir with Christ of the full spiritual inheritance God has prepared.

To be comformed to the image of his Son; That is, to be made like unto our Lord Jesus in affection and disposition, in life and conversation, in the temper of our minds, and in the actions of our lives; like unto him in his sufferings, in the cause of his sufferings, righteousness-sake and well-doing; in the kind of his sufferings, reproach, hatred, outward violence, and death itself; and in the manner of his sufferings, with meekness and patience; and like unto him in his glory; suffering with him, we shall be glorified together.

Paul illustrates the our Father had a plan for His elect before we were a thought to our parents. This should give us great joy as we see how God has preset our course to heaven, paid in full by His firstborn Son. How important we are to Him. No less than His own flesh! And, we are given the ability to be equal to Jesus as we are molded to be as He is.
As we grow into His character and nature we are made after His likeness, a reflection of Him as His sisters and brothers. Wow.

We will share inwardly His likeness....our fallen nature will be conformed to the character of Christ, and we will share His glory.
In practical terms, what does that involve in our lives?
As we walk with Him here on earth, our minds are renewed as we read scripture, and our character is being transformed through trials, from glory to glory.
Why does Paul support this statement with ideas of our destiny?
He's telling us this has been our destiny from the beginning...His plan for His children.
Why does he support this with ideas of brotherhood with Jesus?
It's confirmation and affirmation that we are brothers and joint heirs with Him of all that is His.

God knows the beginning and the ending. He knows who will choose Him--therefore--predestinated. He wants all to come to Him--the invitation is to all, but there will be those who choose not to accept His fee gift of salvation.
God desires us to be His children & brothers & sisters with Christ--God's family--closeness, beloning, loving--what every person desires.

To be conformed to the likeness is to have the unique relationship with Christ that He had with God. A sharing in the divine life and essence of God. Holiness consists in our conformity to the likeness in Christ. It takes sanctification, to be spirited as Christ was, to walk and live as He did, to bear our suffering in patience as He did. Christ is the express image of his Father, and we are conformed to the image of Christ. Paul support this statement for our destiny because of the glorification we will receive througfh abiding faith and union with Christ. Our brotherhood with Jesus Christ is that He was the first bornof many brethren, is is throuh Christ that God's love is restord to us and God's likeness renewed upon us.

Paul , I understand him to be saying that before we knew what our purpose was to be here on this earth , God had all ready picked out reason for being sent here , and when we became knowledgeable of God Son Jesus Christ then we were introduce to an new life through the Spirit of God working a tranfermation in our lives to be come little by little, day by day to conformed, to the likeness of God Son Jesus Christ.

Predestination can be compared to a ticket bought by the father to his son to go to Tokyo. So it is already determined by the father. Now the son has the ticket in which the destination is written as Tokyo. So now the son has to get the correct plane that will take him to Tokyo. The son has the freedom of choice to get into the correct plane or the wrong one. Obviously if you get into the wrong one you cannot go to the place predetermined by the father. Nowhere are we taught that God predestines people to be eternally condemned. If they are condemned, it is because of their refusal to trust Jesus Christ.----

In practical terms, it means that God is working in us through the Holy Spirit and His Word to make our thinking, behaviour and action or our life style to be like that of Jesus.
Paul wants to make it very clear that God has preplaned for us to be like Jesus even before it happens and that we should be brothers and sisters of Jesus. He wants us to be excited about this.

TO BE CONFORMED TO THE LIKENESS OF HIS SON MEANS THAT WE BE LIKE JESUS, DEMONSTRATE CHRISTLIKE ATTITUDE.THIS IS NOT BY MERE IMAGE BUT TO DO AND ACT THE WAY JESUS WOULD. GOD WANTS TO SAVE US AND THEN TO SHAPE US INTO CHRIST IMAGE AND CHARACTER.BECAUSE STRUGGLES AND CONFLICTS ARE ALWAYS WITH US THEY ARE WAYS OF PRODUCING CHANGE IN US.IT IS GOD"S PLAN THAT WE ARE CHANGED IN CHARACTER SO THAT WE TAKE ON THE FAMILY RESEMBLANCE. THAT PEOPLE CAN SEE THAT WE ARE BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF JESUS HIMSELF.

In practical terms in our lives it involves loving others as Jesus loved, forgiving others no matter how many times they wrong us, being patient, actually all the gifts of the Spirit.
Paul supports this statememnt with ideas of our destiny because when God saved us, He also determined that we should live as His Son, our life should be a reflection of Jesus, that is our destiny.
Paul supports this with ideas of brotherhood with Jesus in that we shall partake in the same inheritance as Jesus which is to be raised from the dead and live with God forever.

It means we are to be living holy lives.
God is holy and there are angels around God's throne who are constantly saying, "holy, holy, holy." - Christ is the image of the Father, so if we are to conform to the likeness of God's Son, we are to live lives that would give honor to God, showing to others, we are children of the Most High God, we are reflecting the image of the Son = righteousness.
Why does Paul support this statement with ideas of our destiny? Why does he support this with ideas of brotherhood with Jesus?
God didn't predestine us to continue to live in sin. God predestined us to live righteous lives, that is why He predestined Christ to the Cross, for it is there for whoever believes, to find God's saving grace, finding power of the Spirit, to help us to live lives we were predestined to live.
