Q1. (Colossians 1:5-6) Paul glorifies the gospel, the good news. What words does he use to describe the action of the gospel in verses 5 and 6? Given the temptation the recipients have to adopt another religious philosophy, why do you think he reminds them of the world scope of the gospel

Q1. (Colossians 1:5-6) Paul glorifies the gospel, the good news. What words does he use to describe the action of the gospel in verses 5 and 6?

We thank God ... 4 because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints -- 5 the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel 6 that has come to you." (1:4-6a)

Given the temptation the recipients have to adopt another religious philosophy, why do you think he reminds them of the world scope of the gospel's influence?

So Paul explains that they are not just an isolated few, but part of a world-wide movement.

What happens in our day when a church becomes embarrassed or unimpressed with the gospel message? How does this affect the church?

huh.gifThis could lead to falling away from teaching the truth of the Gospel and thus could easily lead to following false teachers.

Paul uses the following words to describe the action of the gospel: bearing fruit and growing.

Given the temptation the recipients have to adopt another religious philosophy, why do you think he reminds them of the world scope of the gospel's influence?

I thnk Paul reminds the readers of the Gospel's influence around the world to show them that they are not an isolated church, and that the Truth of Jesus as Messiah was being universally accepted, and that it was the power of God.

What happens in our day when a church becomes embarrassed or unimpressed with the gospel message?

When the church becomes embarassed about the Good News, the message gets altered and changed. Parts of the message are left out.

How does this affect the church?

The effect of this is that the church becomes more like the world and starts to adopt false teachings as truth.

They distort the Truth of God's Word to fit their own ideology and distorts the Truth of God's grace for all mankind.

He describes God's Word as bearing fruit and growing. In our world here. I know God says love the person, hate the sin.e in the states, sometimes the Word seems to go be the wayside with the amorality of our country. God's Word seems to stagnate or fall be the wayside while the people turn toward the lull of the world - sex, materialism, me world, etc... What happens in some churches is that they try to adapt, They stretch the Gospel to include ideas that were never part of the Word. Example, several different churches have changed their standards to allow gay and lesbian marriage and activity. I know that God say love the person but hate the sin. Nowhere does that translate to hate the sin but allow it to grow in the church. Abortion is an issue that pertains to God's creative mystery and not a woman's right to choose. Those poor and homeless around us are still our brothers and sisters and we still must take care of them. I believe these churches are trying to make their own church grow by adapting to the changes in this world.

I personally believe that as Christians in our Christ-centered churches, we need to stand strong in those beliefs handed down to us through our christian heritage beginning with Jesus and handed down through the apostles as they strove to keep Jesus alive in our church and our persons. I belive that a strong christian front (living as christians in our world and all that implies) eventually will be what brings the world back to its knees and the spreasing or bearing of this fruit, brought about by our christian faith and love in action, will cause growth in the church.

A. Gives us the hope that is laid up for us in heaven-this hope is constantly bearing fruit and increasing. B.To encourage them, to remind them there are others all over the world that are like them, bearing fruit and increasing C.&D.They loose the power that God could be in them. They are only going through motions, because they have quenched the Sprit of God.

Q1. (Colossians 1:5-6) Paul glorifies the gospel, the good news. What words does he use to describe the action of the gospel in verses 5 and 6?

He uses "the hope of experiencing what is laid up, reserved and waiting for you in Heaven"; the truth of the Gospel; the Gospel is bearing fruit, growing by its' inherent power". His words point out that the Gospel is alive and life changing, full of the Power of Jesus.

Given the temptation the recipients have to adopt another religious philosophy, why do you think he reminds them of the world scope of the gospel's influence?

He wants them to know that they are not a little isolated band of believers who can change the Gospel by the whims of false teachers as it suits them, but are a living part of the Body of Christ which was birthed with Jesus' death and Resurrection, and that the Gospel is TRUTH, which must be preserved and continued to be preached around the world. They were not to become ingrown as if they had the freedom to pervert the Gospel to suit the "popular" mode of the day to day false teaching, but must fight for the truth as they'd received it, to be preserved, because "the world" is at stake and depending upon them to spread the good news.

What happens in our day when a church becomes embarrassed or unimpressed with the gospel message? How does this affect the church?

It becomes stagnant, powerless, miracles cease, love wanes, and often is no more than a "clique" to meet with on Sunday for a "feel good" check mark in the box of church attenders. Each church that deteriorates to this level is like a spot of cancer which can spread, if not to other churches, then to those who come seeking truth, who then leave disappointed or stay to become another part of the sickness and decay. And like the church in Laodicea in Revelations, Jesus is standing outside the church knocking on the door to get inside, as in many of the churches today.

Q1. (Colossians 1:5-6) Paul glorifies the gospel, the good news.

What words does he use to describe the action of the gospel in verses 5 and 6?

The gospel message produces hope. Hope resonates with people when they began to hear the word of truth. Jesus instilled hope when he spoke words of truth to people who sat in darkness. Hope is based on enduring promises and truth endures forever. The gospel message transcends culture, society, education, bearing the same fruit in all the world and without delay (from the day it was heard). We know them by their fruit.

Each church group is a small part of the Body of Christ, and we are all part of The Vine, Jesus Christ. If our branch of the Vine does not grow in faith and bear fruit to edify the Vine, we are not the witnesses to the other branches or members that will encourage and help others to grow in faith and to bear more fruit for His Glory. We affect the faith and growth of others if we grow and stand up to the world's influence as Jesus did....and we also tear down the faith and growth of other branches on His vine, if we allow our own lives to reflect worldliness in any form. The Truth will prevail, for He is the Truth, and it is our RESPONSIBILITY to carry His Truth and Word to those who have not heard.

When we truly love His Word and the Lord, we will not be satisfied with deluted Truth of the Gospel, and will strive towards our own searching for His Word as to how we can serve Him and edify the Body of Christ in our lives. "Stand up for Jesus"

Words that paul use is Hope on things in heaven above and store up every thing for in heaven for those who already heard the about in the word of truth and the gospel is bearing and growing.

2. As the world recieve another religious philosophy, paul remind them to be alert and stick close. For the gospel is good news and the word of truth. We can hold on and trust. For the gospel of Jesus' salvation is true.

3 & 4.First of all, the truth will never reach to the all nation. we unable to do what Jesus had told us to do that is in matt 28:19

'Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the FAther and of the Son and Holy Spirit'

So, God will not allow, and He will remove and raise a new church again...

I love the comments about bearing fruit and increasing. I hadn't seen that from this perspective before. But it makes a lot of sense. Sure, we're not a little underground group. This movement was big before it got here, and it's getting bigger every day. Don't lose sight of the plan. Don't lose hope. Know you are connected around the world by the very God who created it. I can see how forgetting that causes the Church today to get distracted. A loss of hope, a loss of faith, results in a loss of direction.

My take on this passage is tied to the statement, "the word of truth." I think this is what the church today struggles with more than anything else. How many times in a day do we hear of someone, representing the Church, make a comment about the Word of God being, "subject to interpretation," then expounding on their interpretation, many times leading to a conclusion which most of us would disagree with; a position, in fact, which more closely resembles the world. A position which does not at all reflect the life of holiness to which we've been called.

Paul has focused on the hope we all have in Christ as the ground or fountain from which flow both faith and love. He really is speaking of the days we will be in heaven and the hope of us having this time of being with our Father. At this place the "hope" is being "heard". This direction that is given to us in these two verses are not to be used for "tolerance" of today's world...but more importantly, for the gift after this world. It is leading us to the place of forgiveness and hope in that forgiveness. "Hearing" the Gospel is where the Colossians are, but Paul has a much larger picture. Turning from sin for the greater reward, found after death. It is my opinion that some that "hear" the teaching will be offended, but the lack of appeal is partly from the laziness that occurs from hearing to living. satan would like for us all to remain asleep. Paul displayed such tenacity in his teaching, thwarting off the opposing forces and just from my experience, it takes much energy and time to continue with the fervor as he did when the opposing audience only "heard". Yet again, the Gospel saves and delivers and heals. This beginning of Paul's "words" to the people can not be easily dismissed. The "words" and Paul's proclamation is and has been for many years life-giving, soul-saving, and comprehensible truths that allow the "hearer" to be saved, ultimately transforming the heart, renewing the mind and governing the steps APPLAUDS TO PAUL!
