What is Daniel’s first approach to eat a different diet? What does he do when his first attempt failed? What is his demeanor towards those over him? In what ways do you think God affects the outcome of Daniel’s request?

Daniel's first approach was to make a request to the guard assigned to watch over them. When this didn't work, he changed tact. Since he knew the reason for the guard's hesitation and asked the guard to test his proposal i.e. Daniel and his friends were to go on a diet of vegetables and the guard was to compare their appearance to those who ate from the royal table. All the time, Daniel maintained a respectful demeanor towards his guards. It is certainly that God was at work here. God granted Daniel wisdom and understanding in the matter. God also granted Daniel and his friends favour with the guard. Without God's intervention, it would have been impossible for Daniel's request to be even considered. After all, Daniel and his friends were the captives and slaves.

Q4. (Daniel 1:8-16) What is Daniel's first approach to eat a different diet? What does he do when his first attempt failed? What is his demeanor towards those over him? In what ways do you think God affects the outcome of Daniel's request?

What is Daniel's first approach to eat a different diet?

He asked the guard who was over the four men to change their diet to one they were use to in Jerusalem.

What does he do when his first attempt failed?

Daniel proposes a 10 day test of vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then tells the guard over them to compare their appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.

What is his demeanor towards those over him?

Daniel is respectful to the guards over him.

In what ways do you think God affects the outcome of Daniel's request?

Daniel has a prophetic gift. He has the ability to "understand visions and dreams of all kinds." God gives him this ability so he can influence the kings he serves under, but also to see into the future to inform the Jewish people of what is to come, and to inform Christians concerning the Last Days, the resurrection, and the coming of the Kingdom of God.

Q4. (Daniel 1:8-16) What is Daniel’s first approach to eat a different diet? Daniel asked that they be allowed to not eat the food presented to them.

What does he do when his first attempt failed? Offers a short-term test to prove that a diet that would not defile them would not cause them any harm, either.

What is his demeanor towards those over him? Respectful, requesting; this must have always been his demeanor, as the Scripture says "God had brought Daniel into the favor and goodwill of the chief fo the eunuchs" (Dan 1: 9)

In what ways do you think God affects the outcome of Daniel’s request? It is evident that God provided a softened heart of the chief of the eunuchs, and health to Daniel and the other 3 young men.  They easily could have contracted any number or usual illnesses during that 10 day period which would have negated any positive outcomes of the others.  God directs even the steps and minds of those who don't serve Him!

?1. First Daniel approaches the head eunuch and requested that he not defile himself.

?2. When the first requst fails, Daniel comws up with a different plan of action..he asks for himself and the other 3 to be fed only vegetables and water.

?3. Even though the chief eunuch is of a low status in Daniel's captures staff, Daniel is respectful towards him.

?4. IN DANIEL 1:9- Now God had brought Daniel into the favor and goodwill of the chief eunuchs. Without God's intervention the head eunuchs could have been hard and unfeeling, and said No, no , no to all and any of Daniels request. GOD had and has a plan of action. God needs Daniel for His purpose. ..

Q4, (Daniel 1:8-16) What is Daniel's first approach to eat a different diet?

Daniel first requested a diet change from the chief official sent to care for the prisoners, who out of fear for his life, refused their request.

What does he do when his first attempt failed?

Next, Daniel proposes a "test" for 10 days, allowing he and the other 3 to eat vegetables and drink water, then to compare their overall health and appearance to those who eat the royal food and wine.

What is his demeanor towards those over him?

Humility and submission...using God given wisdom and insight!

In what ways do you think God affects the outcome of Daniel's request?

I believe God gave Daniel the strategy in the first place knowing the guard would "bite" in allowing the test.

God also controlled the outcome...since 10 days seems too short a time period to see any change in health or appearance. It speaks of His favor and Sovereignty over the affairs of His children, especially those who seek to honor Him with their lives.

Food is a personal taste to me now....for my health, and not a "religion" type of choice, but in Daniel's position it was to him an act of obedience to his 'religious' beliefs .  He was not trying to be "politically correct", or rude to the King...so it was a delicate place to be.  Diplomacy was needed and he managed it successfully.

I have a friend who is rigid in her "beliefs" about what to eat and what not to eat due to her religious beliefs that is so extreme I do not ever offer food to her...unless it is something  I KNOW she accepts....Daniel's tests started off fairly simple and got worse as time went on, so only God could handle them unto victory, which He did...because of Daniel's great faithfulness in obeying God.

He 1st asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat the unacceptable foods, which the chief declined because he was afraid of the king's reaction should the Hebrews fail to thrive as much as the others.

He proposed a test to his direct overseer (not the chief) to see whose diet was better.

He is always humble and respectful.

God had given the chief of staff both respect and affection for Daniel. The overseer could see that his boss liked Daniel and that colored his decision. God caused him not only to be favorably disposed towards Daniel, but gave him the thought that that he could gain favor with his boss if his bosses friend were to thrive more than the others. If they were noticeably more robust after only 10 days, I believe God must've had something to do with that as well.

Daniel first approached his overseer with reference to spiritual things but when refused then he resorted to earthy or natural things.  He didn't want to defile himself with forbidden food so he then appealed to the overseer's reasoning ability.  Daniel recognized authority.  God likes authority and He likes obedience.  Daniel displayed his wisdom in dealing with the problem.  God interviened on behalf of Daniel and the others, God gave Daniel favor with his overseer.

Daniel first approach was not rude it was just a request. Not to eat the food from the King.  the First attempt was very frightening for his and his friends care giver.  He fear for his life and rightly so as the King had given very specific instructions.  I am sure Daniel understood this and then thought and I am sure prayed that God would guide him.  He then says test us.  So for ten days the guard does just that. I have food allergies and know what it is like to have to change how you eat.  It can be hard because sometimes people think you are being difficult and I should imagine that that is how the Guard/care giver felt at first.

The demeanor of the people over Daniel and friends is from the Bible reading tells us that they were kind and caring.  that they were prepared to listen and try to be reasonable.

I think God affects the outcome of Daniels request by making sure that they were satisfied and healthy.  Also I think Daniel knew that God would look after him.

Q4. (Daniel 1:8-16) What is Daniel's first approach to eat a different diet? What does he do when his first attempt failed? What is his demeanor towards those over him? In what ways do you think God affects the outcome of Daniel's request?

His first approach is to ask with consideration of the man over him to eat a different diet.  When his first attempt failed he asked to be given a trial period on the diet.  His demeanor towards those over him probably gained him favor as Daniel was respectful, courteous and called himself servant.

The same as God worked for Joseph in Egypt He was working for Daniel.  He had a plan in all this and Daniel was his man for the job.

God bless!

Daniel was very respectful in his first request. I can be assured that he spoke in a pleasant way. He depends on God with both attempts. That is the important thing for me. He never loses his faith. He never waivers in that. When his first fails, he tries again. This time, with a time limit. Which makes it easier for the king's official to accept. God was engaged in helping Daniel. He is helping us. All we have to do is ask.

Daniel was humble and obedient to the one true God. He was polite and considerate with the chief official.

God was there with Daniel turning the chief official's heart to Daniel and working the outcome in Daniel's favor because God knew Daniel's heart.

Daniel asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself by eating the food from the king's table. But the chief of the eunuchs were afraid he would be behead if Daniel and his friends looked in worse condition than the other youths who ate from the king's table. Then Daniel asked the steward who was assigned over them by the chief of the eunuchs to test them for ten days. Daniel and his friends were given vegetables and water by the steward. At the end of the ten days, Daniel and his friends were fatter and in better condition than the other youths who ate from the king's table.

Q4

Daniel would only eat clean meat permitted under the Levitical dietary laws. But here the king’s meat offered to idols made the food unclean and common. The Israelites by way of Law forbidden from eating unclean and common food as it was thought that they were called for a higher purpose.

Therefore, Daniel’s assumption was that the food was a product of idolatry and Babylonian rituals. Hence, he chose vegetables and seeds, a biblical diet passed down from generation to generation from the time of Adam. And without doubt the Jewish youths took advantage of the situation to treat themselves with the vibrant and colorful fruits and fine vegetables grown in the fertile Mesopotamian land.

When Ashpenaz for fear of offending the King Nebuchadnezzar refused Daniels first request to food other than the king’s rich food, he again negotiated another deal with the chief official. Daniel asked that he and his friends be put on the vegetable diet for ten days. After which the official can view the health condition of the four youths – if they looked better than the others in training they’ll continue with the diet. Knowing Daniel’s good intentions, “….God had caused the official to show favor and sympathy to Daniel.” (Dan 1:9) Ashpenaz finally agreed to the so called “project.” Through this episode Daniel, though still a young lad, has manifested his negotiating skills.

Q4. (Daniel 1:8-16) What is Daniel's first approach to eat a different diet? What does he do when his first attempt failed? What is his demeanor towards those over him? In what ways do you think God affects the outcome of Daniel's request?

Firstly Daniel approached the chief official with the truth about himself , requesting him not to offer him the food which would defile him

When the chief official concerned about his life declines Daniel's petition, Daniel proposes to the chief official a temporary alternative diet and requests him to test them.

Daniel was respectful and honored his authorities.  He approaches the chief official with the wisdom of God.

God is faithful to Daniel.  He rewards the faith of Daniel and his friends.  At the end of the 10 days test, Daniel and his friends appeared better nourished and healthier than the men who ate the royal food.

Daniel requested to the Babylonian official that he not be forced to defile himself through eating the Kings rich food (v8). The official denied Daniel this request-he was afraid that the health of Daniel and his friends would be compromised, if he granted them permission to eat only vegetables and drink water. If this was to happen the King may react harshly towards the official. Daniel then suggested that there be a trial period for him and his friends to eat their food, to see what would happen. The Babylonian official agreed to this. God appeared to honor Daniel and blessed him and his friends for sticking to their convictions to honor God and not the king.
