Q2. Jesus the Word

Recommended Posts

  • 1 month later...

Jesus is the expression and communication of the mind and personality of God put into words for humanity. The Word of God to man is Jesus, meaning Jesus is that Word. He came as the physical and audible manifestation of God. He has only spoken Words from the mind and heart of God, never from the mind and heart of man.

I think John called Jesus the Word of Life because Jesus was also the physical manifestation of the eternal and infinite life of God (1John 1:2). In his gospel, John tells us that all life and light originate in Jesus (John 1:4,9). As the source and bearer of the light of all truth, He who is life is also the “true light which enlightens everyone”.  He gives understanding and direction to light our way with the truth He speaks. Verse 14 tells us that Jesus came in the fullness of divine truth. He didn't come as a mere representation or spokesman of truth, but as The Truth. It is the truth of His Word and His identity that is our source of enduring spiritual life. It is only The Word who has reconciled man to God and brought us into spiritual fellowship with Him for life in eternity.

This would make the life-filled and true words of Jesus the most important and valuable words we can ever know. It should be our highest priority to read and study the record we have of His words in the Scriptures. But we're called to take it to the higher level of meditating on them with the Spirit's guidance, internalizing them with His wisdom, and applying them to our lives with His power. If this is what pleased the Father in Jesus, this is what pleases Him in us. As the Body of Christ, we're now to be a manifestation of His Word to the world. There is no more important mission for a follower of Christ.

Q2. (John 1:1-3, 14) In what sense is Jesus the Word of God? Why do you think he is called this? Why does John call him the Word of Life (1 John 1:1)? What does this say to us about the importance of hearing, meditating on, and internalizing Jesus’ words?

Jesus id the Word of God in the sense that when Jesus speaks, they are not just his words, they are the Father's words. Jesus is called this because He is God in the flesh.  John called Him the Word of Life because the Word of God is alive and give life to the dead and lifeless. It is the Word of God that Created and brought life to a world without form and empty.  God's Word created and spoke life to establish the universe.  God's Word is so powerful it is for our benefit to hear, to meditate and to obey His Word.

Q2.(John 1:1-3,14) In what sense is Jesus the Word of God?

Jesus' role in the Triune Godhead is the voice,.Who reveals the Father to us through His spoken Word and how He only did what He saw the Father doing.

Why do you think he is called this?

Jesus, in coming to earth as a man,(though fully God) is the physical  manifestation of the God-Head. I think in simplistic terms, The Father plans, Jesus speaks the plans, Holy Spirit empowers those plans.

Why does John call him the word of life (1 John 1:1)

Jesus is the ONLY way to the Father. He spoke the Words which are life and truth, and became the only Door through which we are given the gift of Eternal Life and forgiveness of sin. I love how Jesus never wasted words in idle chatter, and never minced words when needing to confront a person or situation. Therefore we are spared having to sort through His words to find what's important...every word has meaning and life.

What does this say to us about the importance of hearing, meditating on, and internalizing Jesus' words?

We're surrounded and inundated by "words" almost every minute of the day, (unless we're purposeful about shutting them out). Jesus' Words are THE WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE. His voice is usually gentle, still, quiet, and easily "shut out" by the din of the world. Because God is a gentleman and doesn't impose Himself on us, it is left to us to seek Him and to be purposeful and inwardly receptive and listening for His voice....that has taken practice for me to discern His voice among all those who try to speak into my life! (His words are not always easy, whereas Satan always tells us what we want to hear!) We can "hear" and "read" His words in a cursory way,  but I've learned that unless I stop and ponder, and really think about what He is saying to me, it's easy to forget and therefore is not applied, nor available to "speak" when in need.

Jesus could only speak what was given to Him to speak.  He is the fulfillment of God's entire word.

Because Jesus was the embodiment of the Word of God &  Eternal life

Because all that Jesus spoke is the Word of God and is The Truth.  Salvation is found in no other!  We need to hunger & thirst for His Word!

Q2. (John 1:1-3, 14) In what sense is Jesus the Word of God? Why do you think he is called this? Why does John call him the Word of Life (1 John 1:1)? What does this say to us about the importance of hearing, meditating on, and internalizing Jesus’ words?

Jesus is the exact expression of God's word and will, thus he is God's Word personified.  In Jesus, God expresses himself with complete clarity.

John 1:1 is saying that Jesus in the flesh is the very Expression of God Himself, and that this Jesus IS God himself.

Jesus is the Word of life means , He is the exact words of God in flesh which when we receive gives us eternal life.

This explains that it is very important to hear and meditate on the words of Jesus because they are coming from God himself and are source of our salvation.

Q2. (John 1:1-3, 14) In what sense is Jesus the Word of God? Why do you think he is called this? Why does John call him the Word of Life (1 John 1:1)? What does this say to us about the importance of hearing, meditating on, and internalizing Jesus' words?

GOD has been speaking of and to His creation since before He first formed Adam. The first thing that He said that is recorded is, "Let there be light."

Before the incarnation of Jesus, GOD was speaking by the prophets.

In fact, Hebrews 1 tells us that "at various times and in various ways" GOD spoke to man. But until He returns to remove His church (that's us!) from the earth, GOD is speaking to us by and through His Word, His "logos."

Depending on where one's faith lies, the Gospel of John was either penned by the Apostle John or it wasn't. Personally, my faith lies firmly on that "disciple that Jesus loved."

And in his beautiful gospel, John used "logos" which was an ancient Greek word that was used by the philosopher Heraclitus in about 400 BC as a word that indicated 'order and knowledge'.

That John would choose that word might well have been because many Jewish philosophers used the word to represent divine things in the universe. So naturally, John would want not only the Greeks but the Jews to identify and understand what he meant when he said that Jesus Christ was the incarnate Logos, the incarnate mind of GOD.

Since the modern concept of a logo is that of an insignia, something all well known companies have, and since GOD was sending His Word, His living voice, through His servant John, the choice of the word "logos" translated Word, was not a random choice.

Perhaps it was because John saw Jesus Christ as the insignia of GOD the Father.

Jesus Himself said, "he who has seen Me has seen the Father." John 14:9

The writer of the Epistle to the Hebrews said that in the last days GOD is speaking to us by His Son, "whom He has appointed heir of all things, through Whom also He made the worlds; Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high"

An "heir apparent" is an heir who is first in line and can't be displaced by the birth of another. As the Second Person of the Godhead, Jesus is not only "Heir Apparent", He is the King to Whom He is also heir.

In John 1 we learn that Jesus is eternal, that He was not only with GOD but He is GOD. That He created all things, in Him is light and life. And somehow, beyond our imagination, the very glory of GOD Himself, became flesh and walked among men.

Though Jesus Christ as GOD the Son, is omnipresent just as GOD the Father and the GOD the Holy Spirit are, the closest proximity that we can come to Christ now, in a physical sense is by and through His Word, as He is the Word, the Logos of GOD.

So it is a matter of life and death for us to know Him through His Word.

The Word of GOD is what sustains us, strengthens us against the enemy and it is by His Word we live and "grow up" as Christians.

Jesus is both divine and human.  Jesus in the flesh is the very Expression of God Himself, and that this Jesus IS God himself. John indicated that which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched is the Word of Life.  It is important to hear, meditate on Jesus words because they come from the Father.

John calls Jesus the word of God in order to emphasize his divinity, 'In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God" (John 1:1). John adds- 'all things were made through him', there was nothing made without him. The bible doesn't call Jesus the word of life per se, however he is the author of life as implied by the scripture, -'in him was life' (John 4). He is God! So why would man kind not hang on every word (listen very carefully to) all that he said)?

Jesus is the Word of God because He is the mouthpiece, the teacher, sent by God to teach us what God expects from us. To tell us how God wants us to live. To give us God's promises.

John calls Him the Word of Life because:

1. Through His words He brought people back to life.

2. He is "the way, the truth and the life" as He Himself said

3. Only through Him can we have everlasting life

It is extremely important to hear, meditate and internalize Jesus' words as they are the words of God, they are our blueprints for life. They are the difference between life and death everlasting.

Jesus is the Word of God because he is God. According to John he is the one that spoke the world into existence. Jesus made everything that was made. John called him the Word of Life because if we believe in him we will have life ever after. The importance of hearing, meditation on, and internalizing Jesus’ words is to say that we are internalizing God’s words. Since Jesus is the one that brought the world into existence we should be listening to Him.

Jesus is the very expression of God, He was with God from the beginning. Because He was with God and is God. He is the very essence of our being. We need to focus on Him, He is God in the flesh. He was born of a woman to die for our sins.

Q2. (John 1:1-3, 14) In what sense is Jesus the Word of God?

My Answer: He is the Word made flesh, He was in the beginning with God.

Why do you think he is called this?

My Answer: Intriguing question, one I have not considered previously. I think Jesus is called the Word of God because He is the One the Scriptures reference, the Savior, Redeemer.

Why does John call him the Word of Life (1 John 1:1)?

My Answer: John understood that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Jesus is the only way to eternal life.

What does this say to us about the importance of hearing, meditating on, and internalizing Jesus' words?

My Answer: Knowing Jesus is the only way to be cleansed of our sins and made worthy to be in the eternal presence of God. Hearing, meditating on and internalizing Jesus' words leads to a relationship with Him that is as valued and critical and vital as breathing.

The Word was considered equal with God there for Jesus as equal with God is rightly know as the Word.

The Word gives us life.  Jesus is the Word and we get life through Jesus.  He is the life in us, without Him we have no life.  Without Christ in us we are dead men walking.

If we want to live we MUST hear, meditate and internalize God's word.  As much as we do is as healthy as we will be in life.  If you feed yourself with junk food you will be weak, if you feed yourself with His Word you will be strong.  The Word says we are to build ourselves up in our most holy faith and keep ourselves in the love of God.  This is how we do it.

God Bless!

John 1:1-3 states Jesus is the Word of God because he was with God in the beginning. John tells us Jesus had given to the people the words the Father had given to him say.

Jesus is called the Word of God because he spoke only the truth the Father had commanded him to say.

John calls Jesus the Word of Life because Jesus had come to announce that his words were truth and eternal life, those that would believe in him would live forever.

It is important that when we hear or read Jesus teachings and commands that we meditate on them so we can internalize them into our lives. Thus we will be his disciples, spread the gospel and become more like him every day.

Q2. (John 1:1-3, 14) In what sense is Jesus the Word of God? Why do you think he is

called this? Why does John call him the Word of Life (1 John 1:1)? What does this say

to us about the importance of hearing, meditating on, and internalizing Jesus' words?

1. He was the word in the beginning and with God in the beginning.

The word became flesh and dewell among us.

2. Jesus is God in the flesh, the Word.

3. The disciples witnessed what John said, "That which was from the

beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes,

which we have looked at and our hands have touched -- this we

proclaim concerning the Word of life."

4. We must give God complete attention because when Jesus speaks,

they are not just his words. They are the Father's words.

Q2. (John 1:1-3, 14)

In what sense is Jesus the Word of God?

Why do you think He is called this?

Why does John call Him the Word of Life (1 John 1:1)?

What does this say to us about the importance of hearing, meditating on, and internalizing Jesus' words?

Just as our thoughts and purposes are made known through our spoken words; in the same way God’s thoughts and purposes were made known through the Word (our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ).

He is called this because His words are His Father’s words, not His own.

He is the exact expression of the mind and the thoughts of God.

He is called the Word of life because He IS our life.

With Him we can live each with joy in spite of the troubles that come our way.

He is the very essence of the truly good life.

As a believer we should, therefore, view all things in life with Jesus in mind.

When we do this we glorify God and show our love for Him.

The only record of the mind of Christ, divine viewpoint, is in the Scriptures, and it is only through learning the Word of God that we make His thoughts our thoughts.

Personally, I love studying and meditating on the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount.

Jesus is LOVE and the word of God is Love. Therefore Jesus is the love of God.

Because He was manifested in human form to come and teach the love of God to us and to be the symbol of love on the cross to redeem us.

Because in Him there is life eternal

The bible says we cannot get to the father except we past through Jesus the word. So we should pay attension to The Word because it is Love and Jesus Himself

“The Bible is not the Word of God, Jesus is. Jesus is the Eternal Word, the true Word spoken from all eternity. Jesus is called the Word of God. He is the personification of the written and spoken word. The testimony was revealed through the prophets during the Old Testament period was made human with the coming of Christ. The word of God became flesh.

The word is used to communicate to humanity. Jesus revealed Gods Word, His personification of the written and spoken Word.

John opens his first letter to the churches similarly to the way he began his Gospel, emphasizing that Christ (“the Word of life”) is eternal, that God came into the world as a human, that he, John, was an eyewitness to Jesus’ life, and that Jesus brings light and life.

Jesus is the fulfillment of the Word. He is called the Word because everything He said and did was the Word in flesh. He is the Word of life because His Word brings us life, He is our life. It is important to spend time in His Word because there is a renewing and growing that is life to our souls.

Jesus is the Word of God in the sense that He was with God in the beginning, before the creation of the world. He is the Word because He came from the Father to become flesh and dwell among us.

I think Jesus is called the Word of God because He is the personification of the written word brought to life.

John called Jesus the Word of Life because he saw Jesus as fully divine, on the same level of divinity as the Father.

What this says to us about the importance of hearing is, we need to take time to read and meditate on God's Word on a daily basis.

Jesus is the Word of God essentially because He came from God and spoke the Word and spoke only the truth. He is the Word because everything He said was verified by the Holy Spirit.
He is the Word of God who satisfies the deepest longing in our souls as well. I believe He is called this because He spoke the truth and not lies and that He came heaven where His father was and did deeds that were considered to be acts of healings that were miracles that none had seen before. John calls Him the Word of Life because Jesus Himself declared that He was the Way the Truth and the Life! That means He had words that could bring the dead back to life. It also meant his life’s blood would bring life to a world of sinners.  As Mark 4:24 states in the amplified classic the more time we spend in His word by studying, meditating and listening to it and internalizing it the more will come back to us.

Jesus is God’s Word personified. He is the very Word because He is God in the flesh and speaks for Him. John calls him this because he knew from the Old Testament what it says about the Messiah and what signs and wonders he would do. He believed that Jesus was the Son of God, that He was divine.

John calls him the Word of Life because He comes from the Father and that He speaks whatever the Father tells him. He is the Word incarnate and whatever He says is true because He and the Father are one. He cannot lie but always tells the truth and speaks words that came from God. He is the Word of Life because we can only have eternal life through Him. Jesus, the Father, and the Spirit all agree and are one together. So the Spirit confirms whatever He says because it is the truth.

This tells us that in order to really know Jesus we must study the Word. We must spend time in prayer, bible study, and meditating and memorizing verses in order to draw closer to Him. The more time we spend in the Word and thinking about what He said the more like Him we will become.
