Circumcision had been the primary "mark of identity" for a believer in God. In what way has the Spirit become the new "mark of identity" for the believer?

Circumcision of the heart, (Ezekiel 36:26-27; Deuteronomy 10:16; 30:6; Jeremiah 4:4; 9:26), this circumcision help all who believe exhibit the piety that is acceptable by God. It doesn't facilitate stubbornness, rebellion, nor one walking (living) according to their spirit. This circumcision allows for our spirit to align with His Spirit.

What is the evidence of the Spirit's presence in a believer's life according to verse 6?

Love, "faith expressing itself through love".

Amazingly Paul united the three basic Christian virtues in these verses: faith, hope, and love. The Holy Spirit makes all three possible. "In Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision." What does matter is that we trust Him, is work on the cross alone provide justification acceptable by God.

"Love is not an additional prerequisite for receiving salvation, nor is it properly an essential trait of faith; on the contrary, faith animates the love in which it works.”

We. as Christians, besides living a life of faith we also live a life in the Spirit. The new ‘mark of identity’ is now the Holy Spirit indwelt in us. The Holy Spirit in us now produces good works of love – which is evident for all to see. Under the law one depends on one’s self and one’s own efforts; whereas now we live by grace and depend on the Spirit to makes us eventually like our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Under the old covenant, circumcision was the mark of identity for a believer of God. It was an outward show of belonging. It was the cutting of flesh.

Under the new covenant, the circumcision of the heart is the identity of a believer in Christ. It is no longer of the flesh, but by the Spirit. Our hearts are changed spiritually by the power of the Holy Spirit that comes to reside in us. We desire to love and serve God and give ourselves gladly to do service for His Kingdom. Our sinful habits are changed as we no longer even want to keep them. We receive the fruit of the Spirit and our countenance is changed. According to verse 6 all these things come by our faith expressing itself in love. Love is the key.

Q4. (Galatians 5:5-6) Circumcision had been the primary “mark of identity” for a believer in God. In what way has the Spirit become the new “mark of identity” for the believer?

Circumcision was an outward physical "mark of identity", while the Spirit is physically invisible but manifests His Presence from the inside out as He indwells the believer, giving us the choice to walk by faith rather than outward conformity to the rules of men or religious laws and regulations. The Spirit leads, directs, and affirms our son ship and right standing with God, FROM THE INSIDE, while we no longer seek the approval of men.

What is the evidence of the Spirit’s presence in a believer’s life according to verse 6?

The Holy Spirit's indwelling the believer results in our "Faith being activated and energized and expressed and working through love."...(providing that we yield to Him and allow Him to work through us. There are believers who are truly born again but who refuse to yield to His Lordship, who look and act like they've been baptized in lemon juice....but eventually as one matures, a life of love outpoured to Him and through Him to others is what I believe Paul is talking about.

Circumcision had been the primary "mark of identity" for a believer in God. It is only one part of the Mosaic law that set apart non believer and believer. The Jew, and the Gentile.

In what way has the Spirit become the new "mark of identity"for the believer?

Jesus Christ came to fulfill the law of Moses (Matthew 5;17) and create a new covenant between God and His people, a covenant fulfilled based on the heart and not the flesh. Rendering the Old Testament covenant (the law) obsolete. Circumcised nor uncircumcised were neither important nor relevant. The law held no relevance to salvation. What was important was the promise found in the grace of God given to us through Jesus Christ,The Holy Spirit living in our hearts, indwelling us, the promise fulfilled of redemption and salvation and acceptance into the Kingdom of Heaven only through our love and faith in Christ Jesus..

What is the evidence of the Spirit's presence in a believer's life according to verse 6?

LOVE expressing itself through the presence of indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Circumcision has no value in whether or not a person is saved. You can't be saved by circumcision. You can't be saved by works. It is by the grace of God that He saves us. But we have our part to play in this scenario. We have to go to God and confess our sins and ask Him to forgive us and to come into our lives. When we invite Him in, He sends the Spirit to dwell in us. When we are truly subservient to the Spirit and do what He leads us to do, it does show through in all that we do. And that shows through because of our love for God and wanting to please Him. And we can show His love through what we do.

Faith in Christ is now the identity not circumcision and the Holy Spirit of God is the one that energise us to hope and put our faith in Christ. This way, the spirit has become our new identity. The Spirit help us to make us walk in love for one another and also to have faith in the Lord.

The evidence of Spirit presence in us is faith that works through the Holy Spirit.

Q4. (Galatians 5:5-6) Circumcision had been the primary "mark of identity" for a believer in God. In what way has the Spirit become the new "mark of identity" for the believer?

Many cultures practice Circumcision and for different reasons.

The reason Israel is commanded to practice CIRCUMCISION was because it was ordered by God, that on the eight day they were to circumcise their son, for it would be a sign of the EVERLASTING covenant God made with Israel.

Yeshua, Jesus was circumcised on the eight day as God commanded; Jesus was found at a young age teaching the Scriptures, for in them we have God’s instructions on how to love and follow after His Fathers “LAWS” and we come to understand the meaning of circumcision and what it is to represent. (Gen. 17:13)

However, down through history we see that the outward sign of Circumcision for Israel was not always a sign they were a true follower of the God of Israel.

Many did not circumcise their sons, and many of those who were circumcised relied on the “ACT ITSELF” (legalism) to show they are in covenant with God.

God wanted the outward CIRCUMCISION to represent a heart willing to follow after God and His laws.

Yeshua came so that the world would have POWER – Power that comes from the Holy Spirit, power that would enable the believer to follow after God’s laws in “LOVE”, displaying outwardly the inward CIRCUMCISION of the heart has taken place, “LOVE” is to be a SIGN, that we are true followers of the God of Israel and His Son, the Savior of the world.

What is the evidence of the Spirit's presence in a believer's life according to verse 6?

FAITH in Yeshua the Messiah brings life to all people Jew and Gentile alike, FAITH like Abraham’s faith will display outwardly, the inward circumcision of the heart has taken place, so that our walk will be that of “LOVE” and no longer a walk of the flesh.

The evidence will reveal “LOVE” is in the life of the believer, for they now hunger and thirst after God’s holy “LAWS”, for in them we find out how to “LOVE”.

EVIDENSE will be seen in a believer as they follow the Spirits lead. The Messiah has CIRCUMCISED the heart for the reason being, we would no longer see God’s LAWS in the eyes of “legalism” – DO AND DON’T’S – The cry of the heart now is for us to walk in God’s “LOVE”.

“LOVE” brings us to the starting gate and with the Spirit leading the way, let the race, let the evidence begin. Deuteronomy 30:6 The LORD your God will circumcise your heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all your heart, and with all your soul, that you may live.

The Lord Jesus teaches the heart how to love - Mathew 22:37-39 Jesus said unto him, you are to love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with thy entire mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, you are to love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Joshua 22:5 But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

GOD IS THE SAME YESTERDAY AS HE IS TODAY.

The Galatians did not have to become a Jew in order to love God and to walk in His commandments, for love has come to them through their faith and trust in the Messiah, for He has circumcised their hearts.

When we accept Christ the Holy Spirit comes to live in us. He is the new mark of identity for us. We now focus on pleasing our Lord and our "works" "desires" are done out of love for Him.

God Bless!

Good observation. Paul seems to do this alot. Check out Col 1:3-5.

The indwelling Holy Spirit is a sign of the new covenant as circumcision was a sign of the old covenant. God gave Christians the Spirit as a “promise” of what is to come. Submitting to the Spirit’s leading in our lives helps us grow to become more like Christ. Verse 6 indicates that the primary evidence of the Spirit’s presence is “faith expressing itself in love.”

The believer’s mark of identity is our faith in Jesus Christ, expressing our Sonship, just as Jesus would. Our “mark” is that we hear from the Father constantly as we abide in fellowship with Him. "In Him we live and breathe and have our being " Acts 17:28.
