Reconcile means "to exchange hostility for a friendly relationship".

Before we were alienated and enemies. It was a terrible state to be in.

Thank you Jesus! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

God Bless!

Reconcile means that a hostile enemy status has been exchanged for the peace and harmony of friendship. We were previously alienated from God by our attitude of enmity toward Him. Our mindset was belligerent rebellion. We lived evil lives doing evil things that violated His purity and holiness. We had no desire for Him or means to gain His favor. We were helplessly doomed to eternal separation from Him.

Reconcile means we are no longer enemies of GOD because JESUS has made us free from condemnation through HIS blood that was shed for us at Calvary.

We were once hellbound until JESUS came as the Lamb of GOD to show mercy and grace through faith in HIS HOLY name.

Q1 According to the dictionary the word "reconcile" means to become friendly; to

reconsecrate, (to make two conflicting things)compatible or consistent with each

other. According to verse 20 'reconcile' means God through Jesus is to bring to

Himself all things whether on earth or in heaven and making peace through His blood

shed on the cross.

We were alienated from God and were hostile in our minds engaged in evil deeds.

Reconcile mean to restore to friendship or a broken relationship turn back to its origin purpose... Just like the parable abt the only Lost Son...

What does "reconcile" mean?

To change from being enemies to being friends. God accomplishes reconciliation thru His grace by Christ's sacrifice on the cross and invites man to accept this provision so our sins can be forgiven and we can be justified in His sight. Until we do this, we are hostile toward God and are under His condemnation. 2 Cor 5:20 "Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God."

What was our state before reconciliation? (verse 21)

We were enemies of God, condemned to judgment to pay for our own sins. It was our attitude toward God that needed to change, not God's toward us. He loves us even in our sinful state. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believers in Him should not perish but have eternal life."

RECONCILE - to restore peace and fellowship where it had been previously broken. . .

2 Corinthians 5:17-21 (NKJV)

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,

19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.

21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Before reconciliation we were "enemies" to God and separated (alienated, estranged) from Him because of sin. . .

Romans 8:5-15 (NKJV)

5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.

8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors--not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.

13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."

Q1. (Colossians 1:20-22). What does "reconcile" mean? What was our state before reconciliation? (verse 21)

Webster's 1828 dictionary says, "the literal sense is to call back into union." I like that because it affirms that mankind was originally "in union" with God in the garden and that it is God who calls us back into union with Him. Reconciliation is offered by God to restore our relationship with Him. Without reconciliation we are enemies, alienated, estranged, separated, and LOST!

To reconcile means to make peace, exchange hostility with friendliness. From being enemies to being friends. Praise God.

Before reconciliation, we were sinners, rebels and enemies of God who live according to our own will and desires only. Refusing to obey his command and therefore seperated from the Holy God who had declared in His word that without holinessit it was not possible for any one to please Him.

Thanks be to God for His love and grace made us friends through the death of Jesus Christ through the shedding of His blood on the cross.

A good point Rod and something which I hadn't focussed on. This is the state God intended for us and for which we were created. That state was disrupted, but its restoration has been made possible by Christ on the cross.
