  1. Q1. (Philemon 12) Why does Paul send Onesimus back to Philemon where he can lose his freedom again? Why is it necessary for Paul to do this? Why is it necessary for Onesimus to do this?

Philemon, I am praying that the mutual participation that arises from your faith in Christ might become effective in leading you to understand and put into practice all the good that God wills for us and that is found in our community; and do all this for the sake of Christ."

mutual participation. God gives many opportunities and in His economy both parties benefit and together they come into a loving relationship with God and each other.

  2. Q4. (Colossians 4:17) Why do you think Archippus was singled out in verse 17? If you could invent a story of his role in the Colossian church, how would you describe Archippus? In what ways does he remind you of yourself?

I think, as a representation he describes us all - wanting to please God but easily discouraged and distracted. I think that Paul is sensitive to this.

  3. Q1. (Colossians 4:2) What guidelines does Paul give us to form our praying habits? If you put these into practice fully, how would they affect your prayer life? What problems would they help correct?

Persistance, altertness thankfulness. If yu put these into practice fully they will bring you into God's will and into a relationship with him. They would show you your destiny and the timing that it should unfold in.

  4. Q2. (Colossians 3:20-21) In what way does obedience prepare a child for everyday life in the future? For spiritual life in the future? What can fathers do to keep from discouraging their children?

Because it pleases the Lord. This is the part that really speaks to my spirit. We need to lean what surrendering our will is so that we can know our children are coming under the authority of God. This is why we must not discourage our children - their attitude will mark how they are going to feel about God their Father.

  5. Q4. (Colossians 3:12-14) Why are Christian virtues so important to Christ? Why are they so important to the church? Why are they so important to non-Christians? Why are they so important in our homes?

Love God and love one another inspires all the virtues; they reflect the love and grace. They reveal that we love Christ, they show Christ to the world through the church. They give us a chance to love our neighbour and members of our family.

  6. Q3. (Colossians 3:8) Why are sins of the tongue so easy to slip into? In what ways do they damage us and others? How can we break free of sins of the tongue?

My tongue lies every day. Even when someone says How are you? or I ask without sincerity. Only God can give us the power to bridle this - It is an awful sin as the margin of white lie to outright lie is so flexible. We can only pray and watch with vigilance.

  7. Q2. (Colossians 3:5) Why is sexual l u s t so difficult for people, especially males? Though we cannot deny that we are sexual beings, how can we keep sexual desire from controlling us and causing us to sin?

I think that today cars, appearance, clothes are all about making one look sexy. I think that that the subliminal messages touch men more. The are triggerred constantly. I think by seeking the deeper level before God the sexual desire can be controlled.

  8. Q3. (Colossians 2:13-15) How did forgiveness free us from the Law? What is the significance of nailing the Law to the cross? What does this symbolize? How did the cross bring triumph over evil spiritual forces?

Paul uses three figures to describe our state before our salvation:

    Spiritually dead.

Uncircumcised, that is unpurified in the "flesh" (sarx).33

Unforgiven, that is, "in your sins."

He uses three figures to describe the results of Christ's salvation:

    Made spiritually alive.34

    Forgiven35 of all our sins.36

    Freed from the law.

The motivation changed the Jewish laws to the person of Jesus. Following Law their is no real relationship following our Lord we are in constant relationship with Him and each other. Things change and we seek Him always. Nailing the Law to the Cross is changing from obedience to love obedience. We obey the laws because we Love. The tree from which the apple was plucked generates thought of the Law surfacing as the interim solution. Because Satan thought he had won a victory the blood and the cross remind us of the victory and that this is not our war but God's and He has already won.

  9. Q1. (Colossians 2:8) Philosophy refers to a prevailing belief system. How can a belief system be empty and false? Have you ever personally experienced being captivated by a belief system only to find it deceptive and hollow?

A belief system is designed by man so therefore it will be empty and false. Being in relationship with God is the only way to not fall into the trap and being obedient. I have fallen into so many belief systems in my long life to find out later the deception.
