  1. But what did they believe, I wonder? Do the verses - John 20:9-10 - in their textual location indicate that they believed that he had risen from the dead, or was it that they believed the concern of Mary Magdalene: "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!"? [Jn 20:2]

That's a great question! Thinking of it I realize that in fact they could have been confused, but to the direction of starting to believe that Jesus was alive. This also happens with us, we start to believe in phases. First we see a truth about the Lord, but our human minds (especially the ones with scientific backgrounds and highly educated) refuse to take their believe for granted, and start thinking it over and step by step we reach the conclusion to believe. At that time no one can take the believing and faith from our heart.

  2. Q1. How does Job's vision of resurrection (Job 19:25-27) differ from the Jews' former understanding of death as Sheol? What is progressive revelation?

I do not see that in the beginnng Jews only saw "Shoel" and referring to joining their ancestors only referred to joining them in the grave or place of despair. I see they new the grave, and they knew, not only hoped, that they will join their ancestors who were living, in some way or another. In Job the progressive revelation drew the attention or put some light on how this living will be and in what ways.
