Q1. Prophecy and Prayer

Recommended Posts

  • 2 months later...

If we are to only reference verses 1-2, I would say the Word of God given in the books of Scripture was what motivated and encouraged Daniel to seek God for the forgiveness and restoration of Israel to its homeland. He knew God's Word to be truth and He knew God to be faithful to His Word. As He read Jeremiah's prophecy, he saw that Israel's captivity in Babylon was to be seventy years and realized the end of that defined time period was drawing very close. He had already seen in the vision that the Jews would face something truly horrific “many days” into the future, but for now this expectation of returning to their homeland must have been one of the most exciting and encouraging moments of his life!

When faced with understanding, interpreting, and delivering interpretations from Yahweh, Daniel's practice since the days of his youth had always been to first seek the LORD. Only God could explain the mysteries of the prophetic dreams and visions He gave. The vision of chapter 8 was so difficult and distressing that it made Daniel physically ill for days, and only God could help him process and accept its message to record it and have it sealed in his heart. And now here was this glorious promise of deliverance revealed to strengthen and encourage Daniel. The exiled Jews needed to be made aware and ready. And so Daniel began with intense intercessory prayer.  Before trials and trying times come, God is always faithful to prepare His people warning and instruction, and with His hope and encouragement - whether they be long-ago saints of the Most High or today's children of the Father.

(Daniel 9:1-2) What encourages Daniel to seek God for the forgiveness and restoration of Israel to its homeland? What practice on Daniel’s part leads him to pray?

It was because Daniel believed God's promises for a return that he began to pray in earnest for his people - that God would forgive their sin and enable this restoration to take place. He could have been a

fatalist and decide that God will take care of all the details, that God need not be concerned. Instead, he takes it upon himself to pray, to intercede, and to plead with God on the basis of God's character of mercy and compassion and also because Daniel knew that God hears the prayers of His people.

Q1. (Daniel 9:1-2) What encourages Daniel to seek God for the forgiveness and restoration of Israel to its homeland? What practice on Daniel’s part leads him to pray?

Daniel was searching the scriptures as was his custom and in Jeremiah 25:12 he found the verse which told of the restoration to the homeland of the Jews after 70 years.  As was his custom or practice Daniel prayed to his God about it.  He prayed every day three times a day and often more.  He was a man of prayer.

God bless!

Q1 (Daniel 9:1-2) What encourages Daniel to seek God for the forgiveness and restoration of Israel to its homeland?

Daniel understood from the scriptures that the 70 years of captivity in Babylon was nearing an end after doing the math according to Jeremiah's prophecy declaring it would last 66 years...He was stirred up and encouraged to pray...sensing that God was about to move on their behalf. I believe that Daniel's heart never left his homeland, and though his body was held captive in Babylon his love for His God and his people was always longing for home and the fulfillment of God's promises.

What practice on Daniel's part leads him to pray?

Daniel was a serious Bible student. He read and meditated and memorized Scripture,. He also "pondered " actively looking for fulfillment and understanding of prophecies and hidden meaning in God's Word. He sought God's wisdom about how to apply and interpret what he was reading and then turned to the Lord in prayer, rather than relying on his own understanding of the Word of God.

Q1. (Daniel 9:1-2) What encourages Daniel to seek God for the forgiveness and restoration of Israel to its homeland? What practice on Daniel’s part leads him to pray?

Gods faithfulness that he is true to his word, which God had already spoken to prophet Jeremiah encouraged Daniel.

Daniels consistency in his prayer life and meditating on the Word of God, and all his previous victories in the land of Babylon which he won with the Lords help leads him to pray.

Q1. (Daniel 9:1-2) What encourages Daniel to seek God for the forgiveness and restoration of Israel to its homeland? What practice on Daniel’s part leads him to pray?

Daniel studied the scriptures, especially those wrote by Prophet Jeremiah, most of which were written to the exiles in Babylon, like Daniel. And Daniel knew that the 70 years which God had promised, as prophesied by Jeremiah was nearing its completion. (Jere 29:10~14) This prompted him to turn to God in interceding for Israel. He believed in God’s promise that after 70 years the Jews will return to their homeland.

Even being aware that he at his old age (probably in his 80s) he may not make the trip back, he prayed for forgiveness and the restoration of Israel, because his heart was with his fellow exiled Jews and his homeland. For him it did not matter anymore whether he return or not but he prayed wholeheartedly for his people. Daniel completely believed in the power of prayer and through his knowledge of the scriptures has shown him that when you ask God for anything according to His will, He, the Lord God will grant.

Q1. (Daniel 9:1-2) What encourages Daniel to seek God for the forgiveness and restoration of Israel to its homeland? What practice on Daniel's part leads him to pray?

Daniel knew and trusted the Scriptures and the prophets of God. He knew the prophet Jeremiah was a prophet of God and had received the message from God that the exile would last 70 years.  In Daniel's time, the 70 was almost up and he trusted God was true to His Word.  He knew that because he was a man of prayer.   Knowing the cause of their exile, Daniel realized that it was important for those who had gone astray to repent and seek God for forgiveness.  Jeremiah prohecied in Jeremiah 29:10-14,

"This is what the LORD says: "When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place.
11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
14 I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile."
This was a time to seek the Lord. Daniel, being a man of prayer, prays for his people.

Q1. (Daniel 9:1-2) What encourages Daniel to seek God for the forgiveness and restoration of Israel to its homeland? What practice on Daniel’s part leads him to pray?

The thing that encourages Daniel to seek God for forgiveness and restoration of Israel back to it's homeland is that he knows the prophecy of Jeremiah, that the 70 years of exile are about complete. He prays an intercessory prayer for the nation of Israel to return back to the homeland.

The practice of Daniel that leads him to pray for Israel is that he knows that God hears his prayers. In Daniel's life he had been saved from the mouths of the lions and another time his prayers are restricted by the prince of Persia, an evil devil or Satan himself. Daniel has always prayed for his people as an intercessor and for understanding of visions.

What encourages Daniel to seek God for the forgiveness and restoration of Israel to its homeland?

Because Daniel believes God's promises for a return, he begins to pray in earnest for his people, that God would forgive their sin and enable this restoration to take place.

What practice on Daniel's part leads him to pray?

Daniel was a very religious man. He believed in praying with his knees bent and his hands raised, as well as a window opened towards Jerusalem.. At the present time of this scripture, he began reading and pondering the scriptures of Jeremiah. He read where the Empire's that was threatining Israel for 70 years, would soon come to and end.

Q1. (Daniel 9:1-2) What encourages Daniel to seek God for the forgiveness and restoration of Israel to its homeland? What practice on Daniel’s part leads him to pray?

Daniel is encouraged to seek God for the forgiveness and restoration of Israel to its homeland because he realizes that the fulfillment of Jeremiah's prophecy is nearing an end.  In just a few years the the desolation of Jerusalem would come to an end and the land would be ready for restoration.  The land of the Babylonians will be destroyed.  Daniel sees the fulfillment of the prophecy and desires for his people to be returned to their homeland. Daniel is led to pray this way because he is always concerned for others and especially the people of God.

Q1. (Daniel 9:1-2)

What encourages Daniel to seek God for the forgiveness and restoration of Israel to its homeland?

What practice on Daniel's part leads him to pray?

During Daniel’s study of Jeremiah’s prophecy, he realized that the 70 years of captivity was almost at an end. We read earlier (Daniel 2:17-18; 6:10) that Daniel was a man of prayer. He always prayed in times of crisis which was part of his disciplined prayers. But now he has calculated that this is a critical time for God’s people – Jeremiah’s prophesy is about to be fulfilled. It was due to his regular times of study, meditation, and prayer that he became aware of this; leading him to pray earnestly.

Q1. (Daniel 9:1-2) What encourages Daniel to seek God for the forgiveness and restoration of Israel to its homeland? What practice on Daniel’s part leads him to pray?

  • The inquiry of Daniel into the time that the desolations of Jerusalem were to continue, and his determination to seek the Lord, to pray that his purpose in regard to the restoration of the city and temple might be speedily accomplished.
  • God's promises are the ground on which we should, like Daniel, rest sure hope; not so as to make our prayers needless, but rather to encourage them.

Q1. (Daniel 9:1-2) What encourages Daniel to seek God for the forgiveness and restoration of Israel to its homeland? What practice on Daniel’s part leads him to pray?

Daniel was always ready to come before God, to seek mercy and help. He knew his place before God, he was eager to be used by God and to do everything he could to honor his creator (1:8, 2:18). As a result of Daniel pondering the word of God through the writing of the prophet, Jeremiah realised that Israel was at a crossroads (9:2). Daniel therefore pleaded before God, for mercy that Israel would do God's will.

Q1. (Daniel 9:1-2) What encourages Daniel to seek God for the forgiveness and restoration of Israel to its homeland?
Daniel seeks God for forgiveness because God’s anger fell on them is why they were taken captive, Israel’s backsliding was even more treacherous than Judah, Daniel remembered what Jeremiah foretold, return backsliding Israel and I will NOT cause my anger to fall upon you: for God is a merciful God and he will not keep his anger forever, repentance is the key, it is important to God that they acknowledge their iniquity, how they transgressed against the LORD their God, how their prophets prophesied falsely, and the priests bared rules by their own power that the people loved to have their ears tickled, was why they had ears that would hear the warning Jeremiah spoke to them; it was now that Daniel understood by the books the number of the years specified through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem: However, it is through repentance that it would be accomplished.

Q2. What practice on Daniel's part leads him to pray?
Although regular daily sacrifices were impossible, Daniel observed the ritual of worship by praying at the hour of the evening sacrifice, this was Daniels’s evening offering.
