Q2. Elizabeth

I Think The Lord put them together for support.  A testimony to each of them of his power and that through these miracles, He was with them and would be with them through this unusual journey. Also Elizabeth being much older and wiser can see that she (Mary), is Blessed and Favored by God  and and comforts her by assuring her that she will be fine, that their God is with her because her situation is from God. And Mary comforts Elizabeth by just being in her presence for she knows that she carries her redeemer and the redeemer of the world.

Im not sure who I comfort , but I have my friends from my Bible study and my sister who comfort me and support me in my walk.

I think that the reason that the angle put Elizabeth and Mary together was to show that God has also done an amazing thing with Elizabeth. The two of them were comforted because of this. Mary was an encouragement to Elizabeth because her baby leaped in her womb when the greeted. I think that God has sent my pastor to give me comfort and for me to give him comfort.

(Luke 1:39-45) Why did the angel put Elizabeth and Mary together?

The two were going thru similar circumstances. One, young and bearing the  son of Jesus. One, older and bearing the man that would introduce Jesus to the world.

How is Elizabeth a comfort to Mary?

Elizabeth was able to give Mary some wisdom and comfort to.

How is Mary an encouragement to Elizabeth?

Mary was also able to comfort Elizabeth.

To whom has God sent you to give and receive comfort?

God has sent me to give and receive comfort to my ministry sister's at my church.

Why did the angel put Elizabeth and Mary together? How is Elizabeth a comfort to Mary?

Although she spoke very eloquently after the Holy Spirit came upon her, she was still just a child; Elizabeth was her mother-substitute.  Mary needed Elizabeth more than the reverse.

How is Mary an encouragement to Elizabeth?  She probably served as a midwife to her birth, (thus learning what she would have to go through in her own birth of Jesus.) For three months, this mother/cousin and daughter duo probably had deep conversations and prayer.

To whom has God sent you to give and receive comfort? I do not receive comfort from anyone, though the occasional presence of my secular adult son is a joy.  I am comforting a dying old man (95), my father.

They both were blessed by God with a Miracle, so  they both were understood what no-one else could.

Elizabeth is older and wiser, she can teach Mary many things.

Mary is a comfort to Elizabeth, Mary can also be a help to Elizabeth.. being that she is younger and they are cousins.

To my family, I hope I was to my Father who I looked after when he was dying of lung cancer in 2015.

1.  a. They both had the Spirit of God in them and had a lot to share, both touched by God.  Just as Christians have the same Spirit of God in common and are able to share the things of God together.

    b. When Elizabeth heard Mary's salutation, the Babe leaped in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost and prophesied words of encouragement to Mary, about the child that was to be born of her.

    c. Mary was an encouragement to Elizabeth, as she comforted her and probably helped with the birth of John.  Especially knowing that both the children were ordained of God for this special purpose.

    d. God has sent me to give encouragement to my  neighbor, who is older, has health problems and is  faithful to visit her husband in a nursing home every day.

Q2. (Luke 1:39-45) Why did the angel put Elizabeth and Mary together? How is Elizabeth a comfort to Mary? How is Mary an encouragement to Elizabeth? To whom has God sent you to give and receive comfort?
Angel Gabriel got both Elizabeth and Mary to meet each other, so that they could compare notes and rejoice together. Mary had just been told she has been chosen by God to be the mother of Messiah – all very overwhelming! The angel had also told Mary about Elizabeth being 6 months pregnant whom she knew to be barren and elderly. So, this was also a miracle and there was a lot to share with each other. Everything was very hard to believe, especially for such a young girl, and a visit to Elizabeth would confirm what the angel had told her. It wasn’t that Mary did not have any faith, but confirmation would most definitely strengthen her faith. Being much older and therefore more mature and experienced in life, Elizabeth was able to teach and instruct her. Being 6 months into her pregnancy God had provided her with a helper for the 3 months Mary stayed with her relative; most probably until the birth of John the Baptist. My dear neighbour Alan, was diagnosed with colon cancer. He had part of the colon removed and when he came home I was given the privilege of being there for him. He is over 80 yo and for him this was a major op and I’m only pleased that I could be a comfort to him.

A. Mary and Elizabeth were destined to be in each other's life because that is what God planned.

B. They both had miracles and the Holy Spirit touched Elizabeth for her to prophesy of encouragement for women. Mary needed encouragement due to her young age and being pregnant.

C. Mary is an encouragement to Elizabeth with the Holy Spirit she is filled with.

D. I believe I am a comfort in being a teacher to the students and motivate my grandkids.

Q1.Both Mary and Elizabeth were experiencing a miracle pregnancy, so they had a lot in common. They were both filled with the Spirit. Elizabeth prophecies about Mary’s pregnancy and that she was carrying the Son of God. The child in her womb leaped for joy when Mary arrived. What an encouragement it must have been for Mary to have Elizabeth an older lady to talk to and share her thoughts and troubles with, knowing that she would understand and not judge her wrongly. What a joy for Elizabeth to have Mary the mother of her Lord come to her and share her pregnancy as well as all her fears and joy. Seeing each other faith would have grow and strengthened their faith.

I visit some elderly people who cannot get out, and encourage them and comfort them. I always come away feeling I have received more than I have given. I try to encourage my grandchildren especially in times of trouble and worry. I receive comfort from a few close Christian friends that I pray with and socialise with. Praise God for them.

Q2. (Luke 1:39-45) Why did the angel put Elizabeth and Mary together?

Both women needed human support for what they were experiencing at the time. Elizabeth was carrying the child who was to be the "forerunner or announcer" of our Messiah, Who Mary was to bring into the world.

How is Elizabeth a comfort to Mary?

Mary is unmarried and yet pregnant. Elizabeth greets her excitedly and acknowledges her as "blessed". She is aware of Mary's state. She accepts it and is excited about it. This is a comfort to Mary, whose time of rejection by friends and community is looming ahead. So Mary is strengthened by her words and acceptance.

How is Mary and encouragement to Elizabeth?

The fact that Mary has come to her, Elizabeth, is a great encouragement, because Mary believed the angel and did not question him, whereas Zachariah doubted at first. Mary is prepared to be helped by the elderly Elizabeth and this also is a great encouragement to her. Together they support each other in the walk God ordained for them.

To whom has God sent you to give and receive comfort?

To those who are experiencing similar things I have gone through in the past.

At the moment to the elderly and lonely.

So that they can provide moral and spiritual support to each other. Elizabeth can comfort Mary by encouraging her through prayer to continue to trust God and to believe that God is faithful to the righteous. That he will give her the strength to withstand any negative onslaught by others and also that God will protect his own. She will be able to recount God's saving acts of the past to Mary to reinforce her hope and trust in the Lord. Mary can be an encouragement to Elizabeth through her  humble service, her open willingness to allow God's will to be done in her life, her simple trust.

God has sent me to give comfort to the needy and especially to some of those families that have lost everything through fire and floods this week.

They could comfort one another. Elizabeth was encouraging Mary.

Elizabeth was touched by the Holy Spirt to prophesy to Mary.

Mary was younger and pregnant also. Mary was confirmation to Elizabeth because her baby leaped when she greeted her. They both knew their pregnancy was of God.

A sister in Christ is whom I helped when she was going through somethings, and she helped me spiritually.

Both were  pregnant which  was a miracle for both being one was in her old age (past the stage of childbearing) and the other has never know a man.  Even though the circumstances were different it was a new experience for both and they could encourage each ither through the process.  Elizabeth was an encourage to Mary by praising her for being chosen of God to be the mother of His Son and telling her that her child would be blessed.  When Mary greeted Elizabeth the baby leaped in Elizabeth and she was filled with the Holy Spirit.  What encouragement that must have been for Elizabeth.

  1. Why did the angel put Elizabeth and Mary together?
    • I think because their conceptions were similar. In both cases it is biologically impossible for either one to conceive. In the case of Elizabeth she and her husband were too old to bear children. Elizabeth had reached menopause. As for Mary she was still a virgin and this is reflected in her question in verse 35 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
  2. How is Elizabeth a comfort to Mary?
    • Elizabeth comforts Elizabeth by recognising her pregnancy as blessed and and that she is blessed for being the mother of her Lord. so there was no ridicule and therefore no shame. She also praises her for believing in what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished and as in your text:
    • Elizabeth provides the wisdom and comfort that Mary's mother doesn't have the perspective to provide her.
  3. How is Mary an encouragement to Elizabeth?
    • Mary is an encouragement to Elizabeth in her humble obedience. I think the 2 ladies were of a great support to each other as they chatted and compared notes and shared their worries and concerns that may not be appreciated by other people
  4. To whom has God sent you to give and receive comfort?
    • I am blessed in my family support system. I have very caring siblings that I can count upon. In particular I have one sister 2 years younger whom I refer to as my best friend. In addition I also have a couple of very close friend and prayer partners whom I can call upon for moral support and believe you me I have called upon these people a thousand times. I would like to think I have also been there for my family and friends when they needed me. Recently I have been asked to work with the youths in my congregation and for that task; I need prayers. It's such a diverse group, the task is overwhelming
