The phrase Pastor Ralph used is "a pattern of wickedness." This seems accurate because sin does tend to cluster in certain areas. Those clusters are like patterns of weakness and sin.

One of MANY ideas in Christian faith I do not understand is that of agency. I don't know when I am responsible for generating from within me my own sinful ideas and deeds and when that sin was generated by Satan, as with Job. I don't understand what is my role and responsibility, that of the Holy Spirit and Satan.  Sorry!

Clearly, in this passage, the "pattern" of sin is in Ahab (even though he had an accomplice in his wife): "YOU sold yourself ... YOU caused Israel to sin ... YOU behaved in a vile manner ..." These are accusations.  Ahab both is being accused and held accountable.

Ahab didn't merely "allow" his wife to break these commandments, but rather he willingly and eagerly took the property.

  • She's responsible for her own sins. Elijah did NOT accuse Ahab of murder, false witness and coveting. Those were Jezebel's sins.
  • His sins didn't include hers -- his sins included worshiped idols, causing the nation to sin and selling himself to evil.

Q18.Once we give in to temptation and commit sin , we are on a slippery slope of continuing in this way. Yielding to the first sin, makes it easier to do it a second time and so on until we have given ourselves over to sin. We then become a slave to sin because we are taken up more and more with our sin, and we are feeling guilty, and spend less time in God’s presence. At this stage the devil is delighted with us as he is getting a firm foothold on us. Our only hope is to turn our back on this pattern of sinning and caste ourselves on the mercy and grace of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Q18(1Kings21:20)What is the danger of giving ourselves to sin?How does that makes us a slave to sin? What kind of opening does that give the devil?

It when we do something that we know is the sin.

It makes us slave to sin because we do it repeatedly.

That kind of opening give the devil to use us the way he wants to do, because we have shown him our weakness.

Q18. (1 Kings 21:20)
What is the danger of giving ourselves over to sin? How does that make us a slave to sin? What kind of opening does that give the devil?
Even as Christians we are constantly in a battle to control and overcome our evil desires: “each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed” (James 1:14). The danger of giving ourselves over to sin is death. That is eternal death, in contrast with eternal life: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom 6:23). Which means we will be spending eternity in hell, separated from God. On our own we have no power to resist sin, since in our natural state we are slaves to sin. Jesus Himself said that everyone who sins is a slave to sin (John 8:34). It is only when we receive Jesus Christ as our Saviour that we can by His power overcome the power of sin in our lives. We are freed from the slavery of sin (John 8:34-36). As we mature in faith, the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives enables us to resist sin more and more; as we grow in likeness to our Lord Jesus. We give the devil a foothold into our heart when we sin. All sin, including hatred, envy, jealousy, doubt, lying, pride are all the tools he uses to pry open and get inside and corrupt our hearts: “do not give the devil a foothold” (Eph 4:27). This can result in the devil controlling our lives, and leading to a downward spiral ending in spiritual death.

The danger of giving oneself over to sin is that we sell ourselves over in to slavery of sin, we have sold out to wickedness, breaking our relationship to the Lord.

This giving into sin opens the door for the devil to bring more temptations into our lives. We lose sensitivity of wrongfulness and indulge ourselves into greater sin. Repentance of sin, prayer and asking the Lord for forgiveness is the only way we can come back to the Lord for his mercy and loving kindness, for he is a just God.

The danger of giving ourselves to sin is that we should be ready to bear the consequences or penalty. This makes people slaves to sin because we become bound or in bondage to sin as we yield to its dictates. The act of yielding to sin is already enabling to satan to have access to manipulate and rule us.

The danger is that we get so accustomed  to sinning till we loose ourselves  to what is right  and we don't  know how we take ourselves  in the  situation  we put ourselves  in till we don't  recognize  ourselves

18.1 How does that make us Aves to sin? Even if we recognize  that we in the wrong we end up continuing  living  in sin  which can lead to death  if we do not get delivered

18.3 What opening does that give the devil? It gives him opening to keep us bound to sin  and

The danger of giving ourselves over to sin is becoming a slave to sin and live a wicked life.

It make us a slave to sin because we lost the grace of God in our lives and indulge all evil actions.

It gives devil the ability to control our life and manipulate us.

What is the danger of giving ourselves over to sin?

The danger of giving ourselves over to sin means we have sold ourselves to do evil in the eyes of the Lord.

How does that make us a slave to sin?

We have chosen to do evil and unless we repent and God delivers us we are a slave to sin.

What kind of opening does that give the devil?

We are now under the control of the devil.

By giving oneself over to sin, one stands the chance of not being able to backtrack, but getting totally engulfed by the sin. Whatever it is, one gets so entangled and that makes one a slave to the sin. Give the devil a little finger and he grabs the hand and then pulls the whole person. Before you know it you are addicted and cannot come loose.  One sin, leads to the next and the next.

A state of inertia sets in.   This has happened in a number of mainline denominations.   Years ago what was considered sin was condoned by mainline denominations.  Now it is a common practice for churches to have LQBTXYZ agenda and same sex marriages.

A slave to sin has been given over to a depraved mind.   God has allowed their rebellion to fester due to the stumbling blocks in their hearts.   What a quaqmire! The Prophet Ezekiel repeatedly teaches thus in his sermons and prophecies.  The consciences of Ahab and Jezebel were silenced by persistent rebellion against the Law of God.   Not forsaking the occasions of sin only kept them in this vicious circle of moral depravity.

The word is pride.  Pride will prevent a person from forsaking sin.   Humility is the lens and prism to discovering God's Law.  The king of Tyre as described in the prophecy of Ezekiel didn't have Humility.  He was boastful, he wasn't humble before Yahweh.  Ahab was like the believers in the Galatian church.   They were fickle and wavered amongst spurious doctrines.  King Ahaz is another tragic example.   Though the Prophet Isaiah preached to him, King Ahaz persisted in Assyrian idol worship.  Again we see lack of Humility and teachableness.   If we don't heed to the Holy Bible, the devil can mislead us.   Signs and wonders, even seemingly holy visions, are no guarantees of holiness.

We are commanded by God to not let sin reign in our bodies, obeying its lusts, but instead we are to present ourselves to Him as instruments of righteousness (Romans 6:12–14). We are further told in Romans 6:16-18 that we are slaves to the one we obey, either of obedience to sin or of obedience to righteousness. We are to be enslaved to God from whom we receive our gifts of sanctification and eternal life. The danger of giving ourselves over to sin is that we become slaves to sin and the devil and the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
