  1. Q4. (3 John 9-10) What character flaws does Diotrephes exhibit? Can a person be a strong pastoral leader without developing these traits? If you have tendencies in yourself towards pride and a controlling spirit, how can you fight against them?

How easy it is to fall into the role that he did, selfish wanting to be in control, we must at all times keep our sights set on Jesus, constant companionship, looking always to the Saviour for tenderness and leadership.

We the redeemed of Jesus are set free, and as free blood bought children of Jesus Christ let us always diplay love and forgiveness.

  2. Q3. (3 John 5-8) What are the reasons given in these verses for supporting Christian workers in their ministry? What reward comes with becoming a "co-worker," by assisting Christian workers? How effective can Christian workers be without those who support them?

A co worker supplies a supportive network to the believer who is at the 'coal face'. To those who are chosen to carry out this wonderful work back room support is required, in prayer and all manner of support.

  3. Q2. (2 John 10-11) Why does the Apostle John tell his readers to refuse hospitality to the false teachers? What would refusing hospitality mean for a congregation (as opposed to an individual)? What is the border between tolerance and stupidity, when it comes to false teachers? Do the divisions of denominationalism find justification in this verse? Why or why not?

False teaching aims, to confuse and and destroy. False teaching belongs to the world and is accepted, but we are not of this world, we are the blood bought children of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

There can be no acceptance or reconciliation to false teaching, we are never to partake from it.

Why? would a child of God drink from a fountain of contamination, when we drink from the font of truth and life.

  4. Q2. (1 John 5:11-12) What is the difference between saying "this life is in the Christian Church" and "this life is in his Son"? What should we be doing differently so that we teach a faith relationship rather than a religion? What is the difference between "faith" and "faith in Jesus"?

I personally believe that this hymn says it all:

My hope is built on nothing less

    than Jesus' blood and righteousness.

I dare not trust the sweetest frame,

but wholly lean on Jesus' name.

On Christ the solid rock I stand,

    all other ground is sinking sand;

all other ground is sinking sand.

When Darkness veils his lovely face,

I rest on his unchanging grace.

In every high and stormy gale,

my anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, his covenant, his blood

supports me in the whelming flood.

When all around my soul gives way,

he then is all my hope and stay.

When he shall come with trumpet sound,

O may I then in him be found!

    Dressed in his righteousness alone,

faultless to stand before the throne!

    What wonderful Love.

  5. Q1. (1 John 5:4-5) How does a defeatist mentality differ from a belief that in Christ we have overcome the world? What part does faith have in this overcoming? What part does unbelief have in a defeatist mentality?

These are the sort of questions that make one sit up and thank God for our salvation, and the redemption that we know and enjoy in Christ Jesus.

How does a defeatist mentality differ from a belief that in Christ we have overcome the world?

We walk by faith and not by sight

What part does faith have in this overcoming? What part does unbelief have in a defeatist mentality?

Walks by sight and knows little of the keeping faith in Christ Jesus.

  6. Q3. (1 John 4:7-8) Why is the statement, "God is love," so important? What does it say about God's nature? How does love being the essence of God's nature affect us? If we were created in God's image of love, but fell, what does this say about the road to healing in our lives? Why does love demand a willingness to forgive?

Its all about Love, we would not understand or ever have been redeemed without the love of God

  7. Q2. (1 John 4:4) What in us is greater than false prophets and even Satan? In what sense have we overcome them? In what way will we overcome them in the future? How should this truth affect fear in our lives?

What an assurance too have as we journey through this life, what comfort and power to have, with the knowledge that' greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.

Life has at times put before me obstacles that have appeared so very large and ones that I could never overcome, that's when I used to think I was alone.

But now I am on the victors side, the great Lion from the tribe of Judah, my Saviour and my Lord, overcomes for me, and I can display this confidence to all, by showing courage when there is fear and love when there is hate.

    Man of sorrows

    What a name

For the Son of God who came

    Ruin sinners to reclaim

    Hallelujah! What a Saviour

  8. Q1. (1 John 4:1-3) Why is believing that Jesus was God in the flesh so important? Why doesn't Satan want us to believe that? What are the implications of the fact that Jesus could live out his divine life in a human body like ours? What significance does it bring to the crucifixion and to the resurrection? What is the significance for your Christian life?

Foundational faith is based on the true fact that Jesus Christ the man is the Son of God and is co equal with God. Matthew 1:23 tells us that He is Emmanuel, God with us, 1 Timothy 3: 16 ..Mystery of Godliness.

The devil is a lair from the beginning and would want all to believe that Jesus was just a man ..one who would die and stay dead, but we know that we have a risen Lord a redeeming Saviour.

Our Father God demonstrated to all that Jesus is His Son by His glorious resurrection from the dead, was the question not asked, Why? seek ye the living among the dead, He is not here but He has risen.

    Oh! What a Saviour

  9. Q4. (1 John 3:22) We know that God doesn't "owe" us anything. So what is the relationship between obedience and answered prayer? Do we "earn" God's favor through obedience?

The first recorded sin in the Bible was disobedience, how much satisfaction God must get from His born again child whoo acts in obedience.

God is our Father and Jesus secured our place through Calvary into His family.

God gets great satisfaction from our obedience to Him and His word.

  10. Q3. (1 John 3:16-18) What does it mean to "lay down your life for your brothers"? What are some concrete examples of this kind of love in action within the Christian community? If you are in a large congregation, how can you get to know other members so you'll be able to lay down your life for them -- and they for you?

This type of love is something we were totally unaware of as unbelievers, I did not really care for others or their needs, my desires and needs came first. Outside my circle of needs everything came a very distant second.

Graciously Jesus changed that, when He saved my soul and redeemed me , He let me see other needs and how fragile live is, how easy it is to unbalance it by misery and need, but much worse how misery multiplies in a life when no one pays attention or offers help.

Thank you Lord for enabling me to recognize need, pain and misery in those who suffer, thank you Lord for your love which you have placed within me that lets me care and lets me express your love to all.

A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,

    A wonderful Savior to me;

He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,

Where rivers of pleasure I see.

He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock

    That shadows a dry, thirsty land;

He hideth my life in the depths of His love,

And covers me there with His hand,

And covers me there with His hand.

A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,

    He taketh my burden away;

He holdeth me up and I shall not be moved,

He giveth me strength as my day.

With numberless blessings each moment He crowns,

And, filled with His fulness divine,

I sing in my rapture, oh, glory to God,

For such a Redeemer as mine!

When clothed in His brightness, transported I rise

To meet Him in clouds of the sky,

His perfect salvation, His wonderful love,

I'll shout with the millions on high.

  11. Q2. (1 John 3:15) How can anger turn into hatred in our hearts? In what ways do anger and hatred relate to murder? How can we get rid of stored-up anger in our hearts so that we may love those who have offended us?

Hate and anger how quickly they grow into something so very evil. Every one knows the power of hate, we see its horrible evidence each day across our world, evil has ne respect to age or creed.

Thank you Lord that you have shown us by your grace to turn hate to love and anger to reconciliation.

  12. Q1. (1 John 3:12-15) Why did Cain resent Abel? Why did Cain kill Abel? How does the story of Cain and Abel illustrate Jesus' explanation of why the world hates us?

Hate..Hate our world is in a mess because of it, death has had a free hand because of it, families and friends have destroyed each other because of it.

Strangers who have never met kill each other in the name of colour or religion, but its hate that detroys us. Jesus seen this horrible emotion in us and coupled with evil it had the power to destroy. That was until our Saviour displayed to us a new emotion, the emotion of love and forgiveness, hate can grow under LOve it is finished.

The world hates us because we are no longer of this world or its ways, love is everything love will overcome.

  13. Q5. (1 John 3:3-10) How does John's teaching on sin and righteousness in this passage relate to combating the false teachers? What did they seem to be teaching about sin and righteous living?

The Holy Spirit lives so completely within us and our daily walk and talk with the Lord helps ud to see those who teach falsely. We cannot be fooled by false teachers, the Lord is our strength and our shield.

We walk in the Light and the darkness cannot enfold us. We are strangers to the things of this world for we are the children of promise, ones who have been redeemed by the Precious blood of the Lamb.

  14. Q4. (1 John 3:6, 9) How does the presence of God's seed in us keep us from habitual lawlessness and sin? How does the Holy Spirit sanctify us and make us like Jesus?

When I became a born again believer in Christ Jesus my Lord and saviour, the holy spirit took up residence in me, the old easy habits of the old man where no longer easy to do.

The old man is dead a new creation lives in his place, my daily companion and friend is Jesus He keeps me out of all sorts of trouble.

Oh! What a Saviour that He died for me.

  15. Q3. (1 John 3:4) How does lawlessness show up in a person's attitude and actions? In what sense is an attitude of lawlessness the cause of sin in our lives?

It shows up in an uneasy way, sin is not pleasant no matter what the veneer we place on it. When I walked in the world and outside Christ, lawlessness formed part of who I was, it acted as a protection and fitted quite well into my life at that time. But it was not a happy time.

When Jesus came into my life and forgive me my sins when I was baptized I buried the old man and his ways the LOrd has shown me the beauty of His Light and what it means to walk with Him.

  16. Q2. (1 John 2:28; 3:2-3) In what way does our expectation of Christ's Second Coming motivate us to purify ourselves from sin? How does purifying ourselves from sin relate to God's grace?

My motivation comes from my salvation, I once was lost in the slave market of sin, no hope no rest, until I found my gracious Saviour Jesus Christ, He forgive me my past, my sin and He give to me hope, a new life.

In me dwells the Holy spirit and I am directed away from sin, my purpose is to live a clean life for Jesus.

What a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see, to look upon His face the one who saved me by His Grace.

  17. Q1. (1 John 2:29-3:2) In what sense are we "children of God"? What does the Holy Spirit have to do with this "new birth"? How does the new birth change us?

The Holy Spirt convicts us of our sins and leads us to the our Saviour, when we repent of our sins and accept that Jesus Christ the Son of God died and rose again to pay the demands of a rightous God on our behalf, the Holy Spirit dwells within us.

Having therefore been baptised and died with Jesus we rise in newness of a new life with Him. Our daily walk and life is new the old man is dead, the Holy Spirit becomes thre comforter and guide.

    Oh! What a Saviour

  18. Q4. (1 John 2:24-28) What does it mean to abide/remain/continue in Jesus? Give an example of what a Christian might be doing who is "abiding" in Jesus. What are symptoms in a Christian who is not "abiding" in Jesus?

When I abide in Jesus, I feel so close to Him and I walk strong, I feel complete, but there are times when I get distracted and its my fault I drift and feel alone.

But thats only until I lift up my head and see Him who died for me.

One who is in Christ walks in love and talks with love

  19. Q3. (1 John 2:20, 27) In what ways is the Holy Spirit an internal Guide for us? In what ways does he teach us? In what ways does he point us to Jesus' teaching?

    [/quote

When I accepted the wonderful grace of God and repented of my sins. I asked Jesus into my heart and my life at that moment the Holy Spirit took up residence within me, and from that day I have been guided and cared for. I know the voice of the Good Shepherd and He leads me.

He has made me aware by the Holy Spirit to false teaching and doctrine, for I walk in the Light.

    Job 19:25

For I know that My Redeemer Liveth and that He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth.

  20. Q2. (1 John 2:20-21) What is the "anointing" that John is talking about? In what way is anointing connected to the Holy Spirit in the Bible? Has every Christian received this anointing? What do you think?

The Holy Spirit is poured out upon every repentant beleiver, we have the Holy Spirit within us that is within our Saviour Jesus Christ.

We walk by faith, we live by faith, how much of the Holy Spirit we put into practice is determine by our walk in Christ

  21. Q4. Which of Abraham's achievements inspires you the most? As you reflect on his life, what stands out for you?

His faith, he is such an inspiration, even when presented with the all impossible, he beleived, when asked to go the extra mile, he beleive.

When trails arrive in my life it is with wonder and refreshment I can look back at an incredible promise keeping God who loves the faithful, and I am reminded that It is by faith that we are saved.
