  1. Q4. (14:21-24) Why does Abraham refuse to take the spoils of war that the King of Sodom offers him? What does this tell us about Abraham's character? What is the lesson here for us to learn?

Abraham refuses because he was a wicked king, and he did not want the king of Sodom to have any claim to him and what would happen in his future. Abraham was faithful to his relationship(covenant) with God. You can't have 2 masters, because you will end up serving one.... All kinds of lessons here, unequally yoked, giving evil authority over you by association or indebtedness. If you hang out with ugly it will eventually get on you.

  2. Q3. (14:20) What is the significance of Abraham giving one tenth of the spoils of war to Melchizedek? Does tithing today represent the same kind of worship? Why should we tithe to God first (like Abraham did) before dividing up our paychecks to pay our bills?

    [/quote

Abraham gave honor and worship to the One (God) who gave him the victory by giving the tenth(tithe) to Melchizedek, who pronounced that God gave the enemy into Abraham's hand.

    Yes

By tithing we recognize that it is only by the hand of God that we have breath to earn wages, to work, provide for our families etc. It all belongs to God, He blesses us with it, when I honor God with my 1st fruits, he takes care of every other need I may have.

  3. Q2. (14:13-16) What does Abraham's military expedition to rescue Lot from the Mesopotamian kings tell us about his character? About his abilities? About the way he deals with neighbors? What is here for us to emulate?

It showed Abraham was going to honor his commitment to care and provide for his nephew. Abraham was a wealthy and wise man, He had the means and the trained personal to do what ever was called for to rescue Lot. Not to mention God is on his side. He was on good terms with his neighbors, they helped each other out. Stand by what you say,or profess, be faithful to your commitments. Always call out to the Lord for help, be obedient and try to do what is right.

  4. Q4. What do you think about Abraham's and Sarah's ethics and faith? Are they ethically and morally wrong? Does the Scripture intend to show that their actions as a lack of faith? What lessons should we disciples learn from these stories?

I think it shows our flawed human nature. We respond to what we see and feel, not what we know( the word, promises of God).I think we work things out in own mind to protect ourself and blame others, when we fall short. No the purpose is to show that God is faithful to His word, He does not change to his surrounding, He is not like us. God is faithful to every last word He has promised, I don't have to worry about it, He is more than trustworthy

  5. Q3. (20:3-6) What does this story teach us about God's view of adultery? Can God forgive a person who has committed adultery?

    [/quot

God can not come into the presents of sin of any kind. Sin separates us from God, so like the scripture say with Abimelech 'you are as good as dead' because we are eternally separated from God. Thank goodness for His mercy and grace, through the shed blood of Jesus Christ we can receive forgivness of sins, when we except Him as Savior and Lord. We must learn to repent quickly when we fall short and sin, so there is no separation in our relationship.

  6. Q2. (12:17-20) Why did Pharaoh and his household get sick? What effect did this have? What was God seeking to accomplish through this affliction? Did it have the desired effect?

They were sick because Pharaoh had taken Abraham's wife. It made Pharaoh take a look at his life and say "what am I doing wrong to cause these problems" ? God wanted Pharaoh to give Sarai back to Abraham. Yes it did, and food for thought I think Abraham left Egypt richer than when he first got there.

  7. Q1. (12:10) What dangers faced Abraham and his family as aliens and sojourners in Egypt and elsewhere? Who might oppress them? What "aliens and sojourners" live in your community? Why did they come? How are they being oppressed or discriminated against by employers and others in the community? What can you and your church do to "love those who are aliens"?

As far as being stranger/aliens in a land, they were at the mercy of the King/or legal goverment. They could be killed, robbed, beaten and enslaved to the ruling authority. Many differnt peoples come to American for many different reason. Mainly I think for a better life, to support there families etc. Not sure about that part, but my job is to so forth the love of Christ to all, and He will tell me how to respond.

  8. Q4. (12:9) What was the significance of Abraham "calling on the name of Yahweh"? What does it mean for you to "call on the name of the Lord"?

He was showing us his need? The bible doesn't really say. This is just a guess maybe

it showed his dependence on God for directions, comfort , nourishment. Not to mention, when you love someone you long to be in contact with them. There is security in staying connected to the branch.. I need to be in contact with my Father always, I need Him for every breath I take, He satisfies my soul. It I don't I get lost in this world.

  9. Q3. (12:1 with Hebrews 11:8-10) Why does it take special faith to begin to do something in obedience to God before we see how it will turn out? Have you had any of these "opportunities"? Are you in the midst of this adventure now?

I don't know if I would call it special faith, It is faith, that believes and acts without question. The word says that God is no respecter of person, so I would say what Abraham has I also have available to me. It will always be my choice to be obedient or not. I'm sure I have, and I'm sure I said well let me think about this first, ( wrong)!!!! I am saying now out loud, I will do what God calls me to. There is enabling grace available for each situation, so I can do what He tells me to do.

  10. Q2. (12:2-3) In what ways was Abraham blessed. How have all the peoples of the earth been blessed? In what way does Abraham continue bless people through your life?

HE was blessed to be a great nation, Father to many,a blessing to many, a curse to those who curse. Also a relative of Jesus Christ who saves us today. Abraham is also am example of immediate obedience. A man of great faith, believed and acted with out any knowledge of his future, He showed complete trust and dependence on God.

  11. I must say I have started some things believing God had called me to them, but later they fell to the side. I repented of that today, and asked forgiveness of those things. Praying to God that I would do what he calls me to do. Could those times of failing be like when the seed falls on rocky ground?? It doesn't take root, and falls away?? I am striving to be more like Him..
