A wrong understanding of determinism and predestination will keep us from the kind of gutsy prayer that Moses prayed if we believe that everything is set, fixed, immutable, predetermined -- signed, sealed, and delivered. We must pray, believing that prayer can change God

Moses has been on Mt Sinai with God for forty days and nights receiving from God the terms of the Ten Commandments.

While Moses the people become impatient. They demand that Aaron make visible gods Aaron fashions a gold calf from their gold earrings.

What was the significance of this for them?

The significance of them seeing the star reappear proved that their prediction of the child Jesus was true, and that they were accurate in their forecast. This was important, because they were convinced that they were standing before the Messiah of the Scriptures. That is why they bowed in submission and humility to the Savior, and King of the world.
