  1. The way that we should apply the principle “You are not your own, you were bought with a price” is to obey Jesus’ commands. We are His and we should be recognized it as being His. So the way that this should affect our living is that we are committed to Jesus and are following Him.

  2. The comparison that I see between Jesus and the role of the Old Testament type of Kinsman-Redeemer is that Jesus took our sins from us so that we could be redeemed to God. God doesn’t like sin and he can’t let anybody that has sin be in his presence therefore Jesus took our sins and died for them.

  3. The class of humans that were freed by payment of a redemption price or ransom was the slaves.  This analogy was used because the people could relate to it and knew exactly what they were talking about. This aspect of the Christian life explains the way our sins are. We are slaves to our sins.

  4. I choose Luke 22:37 as the single New Testament passage best sums up for me the lessons of Isaiah 53. Because Jesus’ is say that He was the one that the prophet was writing about.

  5. Since Jesus died for all sins and I have sinned therefore He died for my sins.

  6. The way that the Servant acts as a substitute by bearing our sins is that He died on the cross and we acknowledge this every time we celebrate the Lord’s Supper.

  7. The passage that Jesus himself said that he  come to fulfill the prophets and the laws. I am convinced that Jesus did fulfill the law.

  8. God is removing the sins of the world. This was a universal sacrifice because God provided His own son to be sacrificed. He was the Lamb without blemish. The only way that Jesus’ sacrifice was wasted on some people is that they don’t receive Him as their savior.

  9. I think that God intended to teach us that sin is very expensive and it takes blood to atone for those sins. It teaches that God is holy but it also tells us that He loves us very much.

  10. God didn’t have to provide for a redemption of our sins but He did because He loves us. So He came up with the animal sacrifice for the atonement of our sins. The animal sacrifices were inadequate for the atonement for human sins.

  11. The basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin is that you confess you sins, provide a female lamb without blemishes, transfer your sins to it and then cut its throat. The things that are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today is to confess our sins and ask God for forgiveness. The slaughter of the lamb is no longer necessary because Jesus Christ was our Lamb without blemishes.

  12. The reason that animal sacrifice is repulsive to modern people is because they have never raised an animal and if they did it probably was a pet. It would be hard for to eat a pet. I think it has a lot to with city vs. farming way of live. The farmers have to help with the upbringing of a calf and they have been there when they were put down.

  13. Anger is an appropriate response to sin because it goes against our principles. Sin also hurts us and we need to angry. An anger that is uncontrolled is one that will get you in trouble because you lose all self-control would do things that you normally wouldn’t do

  14. The reason that I think the statement about the Lamb of God refers to sacrifice is because the Jews used lambs as a sacrifice. We have always known that there was a sin world that was the reason for the sacrificing of lambs to acknowledge our sins and ask God for our forgiveness.

  15. The challenge to the Israelites is the make a choice to either serve God or to serve the many gods of the land that they were in. God is saying the same thing to me and telling me to straighten out my live and do away with the sins of the world.

  16. We can “associate with sinners” but we should not invite them into our homes. Jesus’ “biddies” were the disciples that He had picked out and were always traveling with him. The way that we can balance our lives so that we can enjoy friendship with non-Christians while not becoming like them is to the same thing that Jesus did and have a core of Christians to hang out with. The strategic effect of having no friendship with non-Christians is that they would have a chance to hear about Jesus and maybe we could help them become one.

  17. The Israelites had to throw out their foreign gods because they were worshiping them instead of the real God. The effect of keeping these images in their houses was that they thought they could depend on them instead of the real God. Like us today there are all kinds of “foreign gods” that contaminate our homes and lives. To throughout some of our Gods means we would have to be more generous with what we have.

  18. I would define “holiness” as something that God has given to us. It is only God that makes us holy. So I should live a holy life and do the things that God wants me to do.

  19. I think that the reason that we are tempted to think that we have accomplished so much by our own strength is because that is the only strength that we can see in the operation. That would be nice if we could do nothing and expect God to do it all but it doesn’t work that way. We must first ask God for help and then take the first step. I think one that has tried to do it all and not rely on God. I think that is the reason I have failed sometimes. But I do know because of some of my accomplishments that it was God with me all the time. I think that the same is true with the church.

  20. Acsah’s character from this passage is that she knows what she wants and in afraid to ask for it.

  21. Othniel was a man that knew what he wanted and he was able to achieve what he was after. He also had to be a man that trusted God because Joshua would not have wanted a son-in-law that wasn’t. Caleb knew that if the man could capture the country they he was a strong man and Caleb want him in the family. It would narrow it down to a leader and that is what Caleb wanted. The Lord was behind Othniel’s judgeship.

  22. Caleb is boastful because he know that God is going to do things for him. Since Caleb is exhorting God this is a trait that we should be emulating. Caleb might have claimed Hebron for his inheritance because he knew that Abraham had been camped there in his day. A strong leader can be truly humble when he know that it is God that is doing things through him and that it is not his own initiative. Strong leaders are often tempted toward pride when thing are going their way.

  23. To follow the Lord “wholly” or “wholeheartedly” means that we follow Him no matter what is going on around us. Caleb and Joshua differ from the other spies because they saw the land through the eyes of the Lord and knew that there was nothing in the land that they couldn’t conquer with His help. If the leaders are not willing to follow God’s will then is harder for the people that are following God to get involved. God was angry with the Israelites because they did not keep God on their minds but instead listened to the ten that said that it was too big a choir to conquer the land.

  24. When we surrender to Christ the ugly things in our lives that displeases God is reduced because we still sin daily. But it does make a better person because we will always be trying to follow Him. Some of the grossest things in our lives will be with no more.

  25. The way that failing to drive out the Canaanites correspond to compromising with sin in our lives is that we have to constantly be driving out the sin. Some of our sins are very stubborn and they don’t want to move out, so we need to pray to God to help to move them out. The consequence of this compromise is that we will still fall back in to that sin. So in order to end the compromise we must kick them out.
