  1. Q1. (Joshua 5:13-15) Why did the Commander say he was on neither side? What is the significance of this? What did Joshua feel like during this encounter? How did he feel after this encounter?

I think the Commander was Jesus and He is on no side, but only seeks the Father's will.

This is significant because it put the battle in proper perspective for Joshua.

Joshua was humbled by the encounter.

He was encouraged and empowered afterward.

  2. High and Lofty- the Lord is above all other things...

Who inhabits eternity- He exists outside of time...

Whose name is Holy- He is set apart from all other things.

The rest of the verse says that amazingly He choses to dwell with those who have a contrite

heart and a humble spirit. The amplified Bible says "penitent[bruised with sorrow for sin]".

In looking at life and my way of conducting myself, it is a reminder to humble myself and continually grieve over sin. I desire to live a life that brings Him the honor and glory due to Him.

  3. Abram and Melchizedek both believed that God Most High is the Possessor of heaven and earth, the true Victor and Bestower of blessing, and is worthy of their honor and loyalty. I say Amen!

The NKJV says "Possessor" in place of "Creator" in this passage. I don't know the original Hebrew word that is used here, but it's an interesting difference! Both these words are descriptive of His standing as Sovereign though!

The amplified Bible says "Possessor and Maker of heaven and earth". They both understood that the Most High created and owned it all.
