I think the Commander was Jesus and He is on no side, but only seeks the Father's will.
This is significant because it put the battle in proper perspective for Joshua.
Joshua was humbled by the encounter.
He was encouraged and empowered afterward.
As I see Him as King of Glory, my worship will be changed by the awesomeness of who He is.
As I see Him as Father of Glory, I know He has brought about new birth in us with the purpose of changing us from glory to glory.
High and Lofty- the Lord is above all other things...
Who inhabits eternity- He exists outside of time...
Whose name is Holy- He is set apart from all other things.
The rest of the verse says that amazingly He choses to dwell with those who have a contrite
heart and a humble spirit. The amplified Bible says "penitent[bruised with sorrow for sin]".
In looking at life and my way of conducting myself, it is a reminder to humble myself and continually grieve over sin. I desire to live a life that brings Him the honor and glory due to Him.
All I think of is that El Elyon is in a class all His own. I am grieved by my own lack of understanding of all He is because my life right now doesn't seem to reflect that. Open my eyes!
