This was a unique happening which the shepherds would never forget, they would also be so full of awe that they would tell everyone about their experience. Q2.Something more low key may have brought doubts to their minds as to whether it really happened, but they knew beyond doubt that they had seen the choir of angels announcing the Saviours birth. Q3.The good news was that The Messiah had been born. This was an event all Jews longed for and now it had happened and the shepherds were the first to be told the good news. Q4.The shepherds are told they would find the Saviour wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. The swaddling clothes were usual but a new born baby in a manger was most unusual. What does the good news consist of that the angels bring? What allows the shepherds to authenticate this news? The shepherds were keeping watch over their flock by night – all was dark and quiet. Then all of a sudden it happened: an angel of the Lord, holy, strong, brilliant, stood by them. At the same time the glory of the Lord - heavenly brightness, rightly regarded as the manifestation of God's presence and power - flashed all around them. No wonder they were terribly shocked and frightened. Not something more low-key for the greatest event in the history of the world!? Rather something more extravagant, but then Jesus came to be our shepherd; He came in all humility to serve, to save. The conditions of His birth were intentional, so that He would be approachable by all of us, even the poorest of the poor. The good news the angels brought was that this baby is the Saviour Jesus Christ, the Anointed of God, the Messiah of Israel. He is the Lord; God manifest in the flesh. Who came to save sinners, all who believed in Him. He died for us, ascended to heaven, and will return to earth as King of kings. Although born into poor and humble circumstances, He will rule the world and judge us individually according to our belief in Him. Jesus accepts us as we are. It makes no difference who we are, or what we do, He comes to all. The shepherds were given two signs to recognise baby Jesus. The first: “you will find a baby wrapped in cloths; the second: “and lying in a manger”. It is doubtful that the shepherds had ever seen a baby in such an unlikely place. LT Lady Posted December 13, 2021 Report Share Posted December 13, 2021 I see two aspects to the angel’s shocking the shepherds. 1) They were considered the lowest of men in that day. They would have been shocked that they could even witness such a great event. 2) The event itself was shocking for any human to see- the unimaginable sight of God’s own glory. I think an announcement of this kind would have to be done in a great way since it has an impact on every human being. The good news is that the Savior, the Anointed of God, is born to mankind. God has come to rescue us from sin and it’s penalty. We can now have peace and relationship with our Creator. The shepherds can authenticate the angel’s news by finding a newborn baby wrapped in cloths (not unusual) lying in a feeding trough (most unusual!) in the town of Bethlehem. Sitting under the dark night sky with the stars twinkling is something I do often sitting in my spa. I think there is not a person on the planet that wouldn't be shocked by a sudden appearance of a being so bright in that context. Why not something more low-key? They could have appeared during the morning hours and it might not have been as shocking but I believe that God has a plan and purpose for everything so the angel appearing like this was in the plan. What does the good news consist of that the angels bring? Salvation for all. To a lowly shepherd, I am sure that was wonderful news. What allows the shepherds to authenticate this news? So to have all that light would have been a fighting sight. I suppose that the angels didn’t do something more low-key because that wanted to get the shepherds attention. The good news consist of the savior being born. The shepherds were able to authenticate by finding a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Krissi Posted December 13, 2021 Report Share Posted December 13, 2021 I don't know why God chose the shepherds and not, say, the tanners, winemakers, tentmakers, tax collectors, fishermen or any of the ordinary occupations of that time. And, too, I don't know why He chose those particular shepherds. God seems to like a bit of drama, at times -- I'm thinking about Moses on the foggy mountain in His brightness. At other times, He's low-key -- I'm thinking how Elijah was quietly told by an angel to sit by Cherith. Does God use "radiant glory" when the stakes are higher? I doubt this. Had the shepherds not heard about Jesus, it doesn't seem that His birth would have been negatively impacted. Other groups didn't know about Jesus, but His life ministry continued anyway. So the stakes were not high. The shepherds merely witnessed Christ's birth. The good news is that -- finally! -- the Jewish messiah and saviour had been born. When events happened as the angel predicted, the angels' testimony was verified or authenticated. My question is why? God's presence has always been with brightness. God, or Father, is not low key. He is mighty and powerful and the shepherds needed to know this was a very important message. The good news is the anointed one, the Messiah, is born into this world as a human being, a man. The best Christmas gift to all of us. God is not going low key when the savior of the world is born. That the savior of the world is born. They went and found Jesus wrapped as the Angels said he would be in a manger. I think they came in such a magnificent light to shock them and display the power of God by displaying the Glory of God that shone all about them. The good news that the angels brought the shepherds was Peace between God and Mankind. The evidence to authenticate the Angels information was A Babe wrapped in clothes lying in a manger. It was not low-key because of the importance of the announcement the angel was about to give and wanted to have everyone's attention. What is the content of the good news? He got their attention. There was no excuse at all. Never would they forget this appearance. All of them saw him. Then there appeared with the angel an army of the troops of heaven. No darkness all bright light. The shepherds keeping watch were not expecting anyone to come and then on top of it all it was a radiant light. It certainly woke everyone up even those who were sleeping getting prepared for their turn to keep watch. Why not something more low-key? For such an important news it would not do for something low-key. In this way there was no excuse for them not to recognize what had happened. This was one of the many "hints" God sent His people that indeed Scripture was being fulfilled. The Messiah /the Saviour promised so long ago had come. What does the good news consist of that the angels bring? A Saviour has been born He is Christ the Lord What allows the shepherds to authenticate this news? The baby is wrapped in cloths He is lying in a manger The unblemished sacrificial lambs would be wrapped in cloths and be laid in a manger, so they would be out of danger. This Baby was the UNBLEMISHED LAMB OF GOD who would give His life as a sacrifice for the sins of mankind. The shepherds would understand this sign if no one else did. I think the angels were shocked by the great number of the angels and great brightness that lit them.Why not something more low-key? The news they conveyed was great because it was about a great man Jesus for great purpose, the redemption of the world and thus couldn't be law keyed. What does the good news consist of that the angels bring? The good news was about the news of salvation offered to all mankind.. What allows the shepherds to authenticate this news? ANSWER ¶ The angels shocked the shepherd with their radiant glory because, the presence of an angel is always terrifying and throughout the scriptures everyone who had encounterd the Angel of the lord in one way or the other were terrified same with Mary and zechariah. because there is something the glory of the lord does to our frail or corrupted human nature it's repugnant to it and can't stand it, so was Isaiah when he saw God's glory he realized that he wasn't worthy. ¶ It can't be something more low key because this is an event that will forever change the course of the world and event that will forever change the faith of man and moreover this is the birth of the lord of glory himself. ¶ The content of the good news is PEACE Romans 5 and Eph 2 let us know that we were in time past children of wrath but have obtained peace through our faith in the finished work of Christ. ¶ That He was born in a manger and that he was wrapped in a swindling clothe. The glory of the Lord was usually shown around the temple and not out in the field. It was not something more low-key because they were not announcing a low-key happening but the birth of the Savior, God in human form and Spirit. Something that had never happened before and would never happen again, something that would change the course of the world as well as the hearts and minds of mankind. The content of the good news was that a Savior was born, Christ the Lord. He was born in the place which was foretold of the prophets , would be a Savior to those who accept Him, and peace on earth for those who accept Him. It was probably to get their attention; One minute the shepherds are talking quietly in the blackness of the winter sky and the next moment the hillside is ablaze with light and booming with the sound of an angel's voice. That's shocking! Why not something more low-key? Because of the magnitude of the event's implication. There is nothing low key about the coming of the Messiah What does the good news consist of that the angels bring? the coming of the messiah who has come to save the world from sin and the offer of blessing and peace What allows the shepherds to authenticate this news? the 2 signs; a child wrapped in cloths, and lying in a manger.
