  1. From Saul’s perspective David is the court to play music to help calm him down when under attack from the evil spirit. God wants David in Saul's court to learn leadership from the current leader also he learns patience and humility, I believe it also serves to test David’s character because even though he has been anointed as king he serves diligently under Saul. Some of the things that tend to prevent us from learning from God in the midst of the circumstances in which we find ourselves are refusing to fully submit to God and His will and a lack of trust in God and in His love for us. If we fully submit to Him He will lead and protect us but first we have to fully trust that He cares for and loves us. We can be more teachable if we submit to God more and are willing to be led by Him as opposed to doing our own things.
  2. David’s anointing is significant both spiritually and politically, politically because it designates David as the king-to-be and spiritually because when he is anointed the Holy Spirit comes upon him mightily and fills him with power. His anointing is also symbolic in that it shows that he is the chosen one. When the Holy Spirit comes upon David it empowers him, he is able to do even great things than before he was anointed. David’s success is due to the empowering of the Holy Spirit, He fills him with great power which enables him to do extra-ordinary things. It’s through the power of the Holy Spirit that Christians are able to live a fruitful life. We are able to do what is required of us by the Lord.
  3. This story teaches us the importance of listening carefully to the voice of God because God does not see as we see, we look on the outward appearance while He looks at the heart, so we need Him to speak and guide us as to what His will is.Most of the time in the physical it looks obvious what we need to do but God says in His word His ways are not our ways and so to get the full picture we need to see things spiritually and we can do this only by His Spirit. Mostly we are led by the flesh, what we can see, feel and touch, but this only helps to blind us spiritually. God is teaching us to discern by teaching us to listen to the Holy Spirit and to base our judgement on this rather than on our natural insticts. We learn to hear from the Spirit by patience and trust in God. Patience because we have to wait upon God and not to go on ahead of him and trust because we have to trust and believe that He knows and will do what is best for us no matter what. We know it is the Spirit of God if what the voice speaking to us is telling us correponds to the word of God and if we have peace with God about it.
  4. Rebellion is doing what you think is right instead of what God tells you to do. Its not fully submitting to God and His Word because you think you know better than Him.Rebellion is as bad as the sin of witchcraft or occult practices because as with these two sins rebellion is seeking someone else' counsel in this case you, instead of relying on Gods in other words someone else is exalted in place of God. Rebellion has to do with arrogance because arrogance comes when you feel you know and are better the everybody else and so when you adopt the same thinking when it comes to God you end up rebelling against Him because then you feel you know better than Him. When we find rebellion in our hearts we should repent and humble ourselves before God and we do this by submitting to him and his authority and acknowledging that He is God and He is in control. If we do nothing then we will end up self-destructing and worse, missing out on Gods plan for our lives.
