  1. Q3. (Psalm 98) A.) What are the reasons given for praise in Psalm 98? B.) Why do you think praise is so exuberant in this psalm? C.) How exuberant is praise in your congregation, in your life? D.)Why or why not is it exuberant? A. He reasons for praising God are: Because he has done marvelous things. He has saved us with his mighty arm. He has remembered his love for us. B. I think the praise in theis psalm is exuberant because the person who wrote it is thinking about how thankful he is that he has this wonderful God who has saved him and his people and that this God loves him and continues to love and bless him every day. C. & D. My congregation is not as full of praise as it was. We are in the process of getting a new minister and it has been hard on the church. The praise in my life is far better than it has been ever in my life. I know that I must stay in the Word and have an intentional relationship with God in order for praise to be in my life. It keeps my mind on the good things available to me, rather than the evil that surrounds me in this world.
  2. Q2. (Psalm 95) A.)In Psalm 95 we are commanded to worship the Lord. What are the reasons why we should worship contained in this psalm? B.) Why do you think the warning in verses 8-11 is included in this psalm? C.)How does this fit with the earlier elements of the psalm? A. We should worship God because he created the Earth, the seas, the mountains and dry land. He is our Creator too. He loves us. B. & C. I believe the warning is included to remind us what can happen to us. This is what happened to the Isaelites. If we we have ungrateful hearts, if we do not worship or submit to Him, if our hearts are hardened, or test Him we will not find rest in Him. The first part of this Psalm shows us what to do to avoid the warning of verses 8-11.
  3. Q1. (Psalm 150) A.)What does this psalm teach us about praise? B.) Where should praise occur? C.)With what should praise be conducted? D.) Who should praise? E.)What does this psalm make you feel like after reading it out loud? A. After reading the Psalm, I learned that praise is an integral part of worship. That it should be felt deep within us. I believe that God is teaching us how to praise Him because it is important to him. B. Praise should take place in his sanctuary, in the mighty heavens. C. Praise should be conducted with all kinds of instruments, lyres, tambourines, trumpets, dancing... D. Everything/everyone that has breath praise The Lord. E. After reading this, it makes me want to praise The Lord, with all my soul, it fills my soul.
  4. Q3. (Psalm 133) A.)What about this short psalm seems to attract you? B.) Why is "dwelling together in unity" so difficult? C.)What kinds of commitments does unity require of us? D.)How do the principles of unity and purity seem to conflict with each other? E.)Why are reconciliation and unity such high values in Jesus' teaching, do you think? http://www.joyfulheart.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=661 A. There is a lot of imagery in this Psalm. The attraction for me is that it paints a picture in my mind. Very visual. B. I believe that unity is sometimes difficult because people are all different. What may be an important matter for you may not be important to me. You may have a strong opinion on a topic and mine may be stronger still in the opposite direction. God made us all different, so there will be differences, but working in unity means setting differences aside and working for a common good. C. Unity requires us to put our differences aside and work for the common good. This is how I visualize heaven. D. Unity and purity to me seem to work together rather than conflict one another. My reasoning for this is that when you have unity, everything seems to be good. Everyone is thinking of the needs of others and making it all work, which is what love is. And love is pure. E. Reconciliation is being forgiven of your sins and made right with God. Unity is being able to work together putting our differences aside. If we are right with God then it is so much easier to get along with others and be unified. I am LOVING this class! Thank you so much for making it free and sharing your knowledge with us!!!!
  5. Q2. (Psalm 15) The Wisdom Psalms are meant to instruct us. A.) How would you use this psalm in your family to instruct your children? B.) What topics of right living does it cover? A.). The things God asks of us, as far as how to treat others never changes ( the sign of a great disciplinarian). Children need boundaries and I believe thes are clearly stated. No questions in my mind what is wrong and right. 1. Live a blameless life 2. Speak truth 3. Obey the Golden Rule 4. Choose your friends wisely. 5. Be a person that keeps their word. 6. Do good things for people and don't expect anything in return. 7. Don't accept bribes. B.)Love what is good...despise what is evil. Live like Jesus did.
  6. Q1. (Psalm 1).A.) This short psalm seems to reaffirm what we already know: the righteous will succeed and the wicked will perish. Why do we need to be reminded of this? B.) From an emotional standpoint, what lines in this psalm stand out to you? C.)Why do you think you like them? A.). I think we need to be reminded that the righteous will succeed and the wicked will perish because we see so much wickedness in this world and some appear to be very successful. Sometimes it seems useless to try and be righteous, when all around us is wickedness. But we already know who has won the war between righteousness and wickedness, don't we? The wicked may appear to be successful, but in the long run the righteous win, for we will see eternity in heaven. B.). My favorite in the Psalm is the first verse. C.). I like it the best because it mostly describes how I "try" to live my life. I "delight " in reading the Bible and try very hard to do what is right. It is reassuring seeing these words on paper.
  7. Q3. (Psalm 63) A.) Why is recognition that God loves you the basis of all faith? B.)What does this realization bring about in your life? A. & B. By recognizing that God loves us brings with it a change in our beings. It makes us want to be like Him, to please Him.
  8. Q2. (Psalms 42-43).A.) What is the psalmist feeling during this spiritual struggle? B.)How does he combat his spiritual depression? C.)Have you ever felt this way? D.)How did you reach out to God at this time? A. I believe this psalmist is feeling depressed and lonely. Missing the times he could be in the temple and worship and feel close to God. B. He talks to The Lord to help battle his depression and loneliness. C. & D. I have been there. Felt alone, isolated from God, but is is usually after I have sinned and am ready to repent and find my way back to Him. Praying and talking to God help to get me back to being right with God.
  9. Q1. (Psalm 27) A.). What does it mean that David desires to "dwell in the house of the Lord"? B.) What does it mean to "seek his face"? C.). How does David provide hope at the end of this Psalm? A. David wants to live in God's presence daily. B. David desires, yearns to find God, to meet Him face to face. C. I know that David has been in despair before and has had to wait upon The Lord. David knows that through his waiting he will be renewed and refreshed. He will learn by waiting.
  10. ~I see the common thread of the first two parts of Psalm 19 as being, how to live the beauty of God' s creation. ~ Basking in the God' s Word to me means feeling the warmth of God's love for us through the scripture. Not being able to get enough of it. Yes I have felt this way before. ~David's wonder of creation leaves no doubt to him whose hand created the world. Creation's design points to the Master Designer. ~David is asking God to make his words and thought favorable in God's eyes.
  11. Q1. (Psalm 8). A.)What does this psalm teach about God? B.)What does it teach about human beings? C.)What does it teach us about Christ? D.)What does it teach about our responsibilities? A & B. This Psalm teaches me about the greatness of God and at the same time the smallness of human beings. Making me wonder how He could possible care for us, but the Psalm reassures us that He does indeed care for little ole us. C & D. Christ became man and if we are to be like him we have a great responsibility on this earth. Being good stewards of the animals and resources of this beautiful place.
