I believe daily confession of sins is vital. I need reminding that I am constantly sinning and in need of constant forgiveness. I so want to stand clean before my Father, and only He can make that happen. I think forgiveness is more related to justice and cleansing is more related to spiritual washing.

There was a specific time in my life when I was heavily entrenched in a secret sinful relationship. I can say from experience that it is so harmful to your life with God and with other believers. The effect was definitely a severing of true fellowship. When this sin came to light and I was able to confess it publicly, while it was embarrasing and it hurt, the result was an amazing feeling of freedom and light and extreme gratefulness to God for forgiveness and cleansing.

Americans have become so "entertainment-oriented" that we like to keep things light and humorous in our conversations. It is the rare group who has the desire or conscious thought to go deeper. It has made me uncomfortable for years to call many of our church gatherings "fellowship". I think the remedy is for individuals to initiate deeper conversations.
