I think that he was seen as being charismatic, but never losing sight of his mission, even as crowds of people turned up to hear him and be baptized.
  2. J John the Baptist knew his mission in life. He clearly understood that he had been set apart by God for a purpose. John was different to the prophets and priests of his time. Through God's direction, John the Baptist challenged the people to prepare for the coming of the Messiah by turning away from sin and being baptized as a symbol of repentance. Although he held no power or influence in the Jewish political system, he delivered his message with the force of authority. 3. Samuel is a humble servant and is willing to obey. A servant is one who listens for, listens to and obeys his master. Thus Samuel’s servant attitude is an important preparation for hearing God’s voice. Surrender to Jesus shows humility, love, obedience, willingness to serve faithfully .
  4. The Spirit’s voice is Him speaking to you in words and being a believer, you can hear it. The Spirit’s nudge is a prompt, a feeling you might get, a guidance to do something. I have to really find a quiet time to concentrate on His word, pray, obey Him. Live a life for Him.
  5. The Holy Spirit, if it is in us, connects us to the mind of Christ. I try to pray and read early in the mornings but my thoughts often wander. I have to discipline myself to block out the distractions that interrupt my scripture readings, devotion.
  6. Jesus always found time to pray to His father for guidance. He spends quiet time to commune with His Father to determine what He has to do. This quiet time enables Jesus to talk with His Father and learn the will of His Father. Jesus knows that everything He does is dependent on His Father’s will. Jesus ministers through the Holy Spirit because it keeps him connected to God and enables Him to continue God's work of teaching, healing.
  7. The lessons learned are that the gifts given by the Holy Spirit are not according to our power or will. These gifts are bestowed on individuals so that they can continue to build His church as a place of healing and proclaiming knowledge of His word. The Holy Spirit empowers and distributes spiritual gifts individually according to His own will and plan.
  8. Throughout Jesus’ adult ministry after his baptism and temptation He preached and healed the sick. As in Matthew 9:35 ‘And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.’ Paul’s ministry of healing began after Jesus’ resurrection and ascension.is shown in Acts 28:7-10 which describe his healing of the people on the island of Malta. Peter’s ministry of healing began after Jesus’ resurrection and ascension.is shown in In Matthew 4:18, Peter is called to discipleship by Jesus. Acts 3:1-11 narrates his healing of the paralyzed man “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Philip’s is shown in Acts 8:5-7where in Samaria he preached and healed the lame and paralyzed.
  9. Yes one can definitely use Jesus as an example in the use of one's spiritual gifts. He is the Holy Spirit and He bestowed on believers the gifts to continue His works on earth. Evidence of the gift of knowledge in the Old Testament can be seen in Genesis 6:12-1 when Jesus foretold Noah of the flood. Evidence in the New Testament can be found in Matthew 1:20 when God revealed to Joseph that Mary’s pregnancy was of the Holy Spirit.
  10. Gift of prophecy is a proclamation from God, through the Holy Spirit, conveyed through a believer. They do not know whether the prophecy is false or not. Paul said that we should weigh carefully what is prophesied and should not treat prophesies with contempt, but test them and avoid anything evil.
  11. According to the definition of an Apostle : ‘A Christian leader called and spiritually gifted by God to open new spiritual regions for the spreading of the Gospel. They lay foundations, equip believers and serve as catalysts and coordinators of churches and ministries.’, yes I do think that there are modern-day apostles. There are people today who fit the description of an apostle and are doing the work of an apostle. A friend of mine, a Dr. of Divinity gave up being a priest and has been doing missionary work in Africa for years. She saw the need to plant churches and spread God’s word. I am also certain that there are many who think and say that they are apostles but are not. Some people are genuinely great ministers for Christ, and because they have a large ministry or plant churches are they all really apostles?.
  12. 1 Corinthians 12:7: Spiritual gifts are given so that believers can help each other and as they do this, they become more empowered by the Holy Spirit. They do not focus on their experiences but on others, helping those in need, sharing their faith with others. Ephesians 4:11: God gave certain gifts and associated them with certain key positions in the church. Christ equips these people with gifts and positions to train, equip and protect his sheep. Christ himself gave apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors all given spiritual gifts so that they can continue the expansion of God's words and churches. They were chosen so that all of His people could receive the truth to live right and good lives. There becomes dissention in God’s churches
  13. No. On the day of Pentecost it was the first time that Jesus fulfilled His promise to His disciples by filling them with the Holy Spirit to continue His ministry. He did this by using tongues of fire that sat on the disciples. No. The Holy Spirit does not come in this way always I think that this was the only time there was mention of tongues of fire. Yes, people receive the Holy Spirit without there being tongues of fire resting on them..
  14. They were given extra power, sustenance to strengthen them to with the attacks on them and to continue God's works. No, there is no refilling but an extra boost, a quickening of the Holy Spirit in them I would say yes as the Lord sees the need of it.
  15. On the Day of Pentecost the disciples were assembled in one place and there was a sound of rushing wind and there appeared cloven tongues like fire and it sat on each disciple filling them with the Holy Ghost. The disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit gave them utterance. Word analogies were: receiving the Holy Spirit, being baptized in the Holy Spirit, filled with the Holy Spirit, pouring out of the Holy Spirit. Yes. They were able to see the tongues of fire sitting on the disciples, that is, the disciples receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit that Jesus had promised them. They were able to hear the disciples speaking their languages. Peter said that what the Jews were seeing was prophesied by the prophet Joel. That God would pour out His Holy Spirit on all believers who will be saved.
  16. Because being filled with the Holy Spirit, we have great power given by God . With this spiritual power, there is nothing that can stop us doing God’s works. No it is not less but Paul is experienced in using the Holy Spirit indwelling in him. Some factors might be inexperience, not understanding how to use this power.
  17. http://www.joyfulheart.com/forums/topic/1804-q3-seal-guarantee-anointing/ “Seal of ownership” teach us that there is ongoing and eternal security of Christ in believers’ souls. Believers are able to grow in the Christian faith through the power of the Holy Spirit within them. “down payment” means that God has identified Christians as His own by placing the Holy Spirit in their hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything He has promised us. We therefore must stand firm In Christ. We must remember that whatever power we have it was through Him. Whatever progress we made, it was because of Him. Full payment is the promise of having eternal life with God in heaven at Jesus' second coming. “Anointing” teaches us that we are set apart for God’s service to continue His works while under his protection.
  18. This enables us to have a deep, personal relationship with our Father who knows everything about us. He made us.. Our mental activity has to be like that of Christ. We have to be able to understand God’s plan in the world, provide salvation to sinners, to seek and save what is lost. We have to share Jesus’ perspectives of humility, obedience, compassion and prayerful dependence on God. The Holy Spirit connection allow us to know what is in God’s heart, what He desires us to do.
  19. No. Christ, through the Holy Spirit, indwells only in believers. Christ and the Father make their home in us through the Holy Spirit. One must continue to have faith, teach God’s words to unbelievers, and continue Jesus’ work. Just as our body and our spirit within dwell in a house, God, through the Holy Spirit, indwells in and guides believers. The Spirit living within us enables us to know what is in God’s heart that is what He desires of us. This thus makes us more like Jesus’s disciples as we spread God’s word, care for the poor, the suffering, the sick, work towards making the word a better place. My witness to others is that God exists and only through Him can we have that eternal life once we believe in Him.
  20. No. He wanted to learn more about Jesus’ teachings. He saw the miracles Jesus performed and thus recognized that these came from God, so he showed interest and hunger to learn more about Him from Jesus. People who have experienced the second birth are those who are believers who have accepted Jesus as their Savior and have received the power of the Holy Spirit.
  21. All sinners, all who need to be in fellowship with Him,to learn about the Father and to seek a new life with Him. Believers will receive the Holy Spirit and will have eternal life. I strive each day for the spring of living water in my life. I do hope that it comes before it is too late.
  22. They became empowered with the Holy Spirit and had tremendous impact on the world! They took the gospel of Jesus to far-off places and also left us the legacy of the New Testament. They used the training Jesus gave them to impact and encourage us in our faith. Since Jesus dwells in us through the Holy Spirit, we, as believers, continue to spread God's words.
  23. The Holy Spirit is a person, He has life and a will as seen in 1Corinthians 2:10-11. “these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11For who knows a person's thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.” He is part of the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was sent to Jesus’ disciples and believers when Jesus finished his ministry on earth, dying on the cross, and ascending into heaven. The Holy Spirit came to continue comforting, guiding, teaching Jesus’ disciples and all believers. The Holy Spirit is near us, helping us, teaching us to follow God, interceding to God the Father for us when we pray. He prompts and moves believers, He gives them nudges. It is easy to refer to the Holy Spirit as ‘it’ because we do not see him but He has the attributes of a person since He has personal relationships with believers. He has insight and intellect. He performs miracles. He is Jesus, He is God.
  24. To testify is to talk about some first- hand, personal experience, something you lived through, saw. The Spirit testifies about Jesus by reminding Jesus’ disciples what He taught them while He was with them. They were to continue the work they had started knowing that He was with them, not in body, but in their hearts through the Holy Spirit. He would continue to guide them, provide for them, protect them, comfort them. Yes, once one has committed oneself to the Lord and Savior, One can testify about one’s personal knowledge of Jesus. No, the apostles were not the only first-hand witnesses. Jesus had many devout followers. He performed many miracles and the recipients of these can also testify about the love, humility and power of Jesus.
  25. The Holy Spirit is another Paraclete because it indwells in believers guiding, counselling and comforting them. The initial paraclete was Jesus whom God sent to teach, guide and comfort his people on earth. The Holy Spirit can replace Jesus and indwell in all believers teaching them the truth about God and His Kingdom. It can also comfort Jesus’s disciples; help them to weather the storms they were destined to face after Jesus’ departure. Jesus was a friend, teacher, healer with His disciples. The Holy Spirit will replace Jesus and be with His disciples and all believers after His death and ascension to His Father’s heavenly kingdom.
