  1. The Holy Spirit was active in establishing Jesus Christ core identity as the son of God when he spoke to Mary about her role of becoming the mother of Jesus. He would overshadow Mary and she would become pregnant with the son of God. He also visited Joseph in a dream and assured him that Mary's pregnancy was of God and he should not be afraid to marry Mary. At Jesus baptism the Holy Spirit alighted on him in the form of a dove and God's voice making the proclamation that Jesus was his beloved son in whom he was well pleased. My core identity as a disciple of Jesus was established when I acknowledged his work of conviction upon my heart, accepted God's free gift of salvation and was born again into God's family. The process continued when I was sealed by the Holy Spirit who came and dwell inside of me. He now empowers me to obey God's statues and walk by his precepts.
  2. The prophet Joel declared the future ministry of the Holy Spirit coming upon all persons. Persons will prophesy, dream dreams and see visions. Ezekiel also stated in his prophesy that God would give us new hearts and a new spirit enabling us to walk in God's statues and obey his laws. All who believe in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and are saved will be recepients.
  3. What promises does God make thru Isaiah about the Holy Spirit and the Messiah? How were these fulfilled? The prophet Isaiah prophesied that Messiah would be from the lineage of Jesse. The Spirit of God would rest on Him and he would be the embodiment of the seven fold Spirit of wisdom, etc. Jesus is the fulfilment of all the prophecies of Isaiah. He came from the lineage of Jesse, the Holy Spirit alighted upon him at his baptism in the form of a dove. While on earth he went around doing good by bringing good news to a lost and dying people, he healed, cleansed and delivered mankind from all different kinds of conditions. Jesus comforted those that mourned, liberated the captives, bound up the brokenhearted and brought justice for the poor.
  4. In order to become effective in their role of assisting Moses in leading the Israelites, to take care of the daily routine activities and administering justice, the 70 elders received the endowment of the Holy Spirit. As an initial evidence of the Holy Spirit being on them, they prophesied. I guess this would have identified them as being set apart by God and should be respected as leaders. Moses in humour wished that the Holy Spirit came on all of God's people so that they too could have the kind of relationship he shared with God. Maybe he felt that the task of leading them would have been easier.
  5. In the old testament, individuals were given the Holy Spirit as there Enabler or there Helper. Those were two of the functions of the Holy Spirit. Thus ordinary men and women were given supernatural abilities to carry out specific assignments mandated by God. We see in the case of Moses who had a problem with stuttering being requested to speak to Pharoah to release God's people. Gideon also felt that he was incapable of delivering the Israelites. With the Holy Spirit one is able to accomplish great feats for God. With the Holy Spirit help the relationship with God is at an intimate level. It becomes richer and deeper. The desire to be obedient and faithful is heightened.
