  1. God has a purpose in mind and chooses a person to fulfill that purpose. He puts the Spirit of the LORD on that person to enable them with power to fulfill the purpose for which they are chosen. The more obedient they are in doing what He tells them, the more authority they seem to receive. He put His Spirit on Saul, and later, when Saul was disobedient, God removed the Spirit from him. When God made that change, He already had in mind the son of Jesse, David. In the Old Testament, it seemed that God chose people for specific purposes to affect great and important things, and the same in the New Testament times too, but it seems to me to be for the love and fellowship between us as well as to change us to be Holy as He is holy and walk with Him with pure hearts. We are not all great leaders, but He desires to give us the Holy Spirit because of who He is. I think our purpose unfolds as we grow in our relationship with Him. David intimately experienced the presence of God and loved Him deeply. I think those precious times of presence draws us to daily seek Him. The pleasure of His contact and the delight of His thoughts toward us and His great wisdom are what we live for and look forward to every day. It is by His Spirit that we follow Him.
  2. It gives me a deeper strength to be in this study on the Spirit of the Lord. I think of 'give us this day our daily bread' and this comes from the Spirit. Manna is bread. Jesus is the bread of life and it was Him who gave them manna. We are feasting.
  3. The seventy elders prophesied when the Spirit of the LORD came upon them. The wisdom and the understanding that comes from the Holy Spirit gives those who receive it the ability to walk in obedience to God, and the ability to lead people. The burden was great on Moses and he needed more help. Some of the people, maybe all, were longing for the foods they were used to eating. They tired of the manna. They got cranky and complained in God's hearing and He got angry. When the Spirit of God came upon them, they prophesied. If the Spirit of God rested on them all of the time, they would be hearing from Him frequently and responding to him with faith, in obedience to His words. It is much more likely they would not be complaining about their circumstances. These scriptures answer why Moses wanted all the people to have the Spirit of God resting on them: Numbers 11:26 Two men, however, had remained in the camp—one named Eldad and the other Medad—and the Spirit rested on them. They were among those listed, but they had not gone out to the tent, and they prophesied in the camp. Numbers 11:27 A young man ran and reported to Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.” Numbers 11:28 Joshua son of Nun, the attendant to Moses since youth, spoke up and said, “Moses, my lord, stop them!” Numbers 11:29 But Moses replied, “Are you jealous on my account? I wish that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would place His Spirit on them!” Tuesday, November 27, 2018 - I also wish that all the LORD's people--including me, were prophets. I don't think I prophesy, but He talks to me.
  4. Hi all, my name is Laureen and I'm married to Al. We have been married for 25 very good years. I came to know Jesus in 1979 and have been lover of the Word of God ever since. Jesus is amazing and faithful and the best ever listener. I look forward to learning more about the Holy Spirit. I received the baptism in the Holy Spirit in 1981. I never cease to be amazed. I look forward to these lessons and getting to know you all.
