  1. Bailey Greetings 10/16/21 Lovely weather today, nice and cool just like I like it. 1. The disciples distorted humility, they seem lost in their egos, they displayed haughtiness and lacked empathy. Pride in themselves and even the back biting got out of hand. The legitimate need got distorted when it became that of a selfish need. Almost like children. They displayed the sense or act of entitlement. This need should have been met by them checking themselves. Did they not see how Jesus was looking at them, or were the ashamed of their own selfish needs? 2. I think the real motive for stopping the exorcist was that of fear. I thought the hesitation on their part maybe that of not being able to perform in front of Jesus and again jealous of the man for doing what should of been done by them. Here their ego's got in the way of doing great works. 3. I have read this scripture many times in the past, but I thought of it like this. Who in their right minds would wish fire to rain down on a village? It was like they had a touch of demons upon them. The question is really what were they thinking and what was in their hearts? Where was the Love that Jesus commanded, Love thy neighbor ? Have they lost sight of their own hearts, do no wrong. Here again egos are at play.
  2. Bailey Greetings 10/15/21 Q 4 Repent and be baptized, repentance is a decision to go a new direction to follow Jesus as Lord. You can not have true repentance without faith. The Holy Spirit brings spiritual birth and empowerment to people of every race and culture.
  3. Bailey Greetings 10/15/21 Peter has explained the coming of the Holy Spirit as the outpouring Joel has prophesied to take place in the time of the Messiah. God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ, the people wanted to know what to do?
  4. Q2. The messages convincing to the people because they are able to understand in their own language. The believers are speaking of the mighty works of God, declaring the wonders of God in their own tongues,
  5. Bailey Greetings 10/15/21 Q 1. What is the significance of the sound of the wind? Of the flames? The spontaneous speaking of the praises of God in other languages? It was not the wind, but sounds like the wind, but it is a sound of a gentle breeze refreshing the air in the room, the flames represent the filling of the holy spirit upon each person and they were filled with the Holy Spirit
  6. Q3. How would you describe what was happening with the Fellowship of the 120? This was a time of devoted prayer life, to do as they did, being busily engaged in prayer and being devoted to praying.
  7. Bailey Greetings 10/15/21 The disciples are commanded to wait for the Holy Spirit while He has explained that I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay. What ways does the Spirit coming represent a filling? The coming of the Spirit that it is the Gift that my Father promised, The coming upon is that the Spirit not only comes to empower you, but take up residence in our hearts forever.
  8. Bailey 10/15/21 Greetings 1. How many rebukes of the disciples can you find? : Rebuking Unbelief , Rebuking the unclean Spirit, The disciples' inability to understand Jesus' coming betrayal, Rebuking pride in the Disciples, Rebuking intolerance in the disciples, and Rebuking Racial Bigotry in the disciples. 2. How can we be "with" them but not "of" them? How can we both identify with our generation and still live differently? To both questions, we live in a society now where everyone says what they want and when they want, the youth of today especially have no respect for authority, yet when they are disrespected the world must "so they think" understand. Living in today's world we as disciples are the preach the word of God. I understand what is being said, I may or may not agree,I don't have to go alone to get alone. I give respect with the love of God and I must remember to love my neighbor.
  9. Bailey Greetings 8/25/21 What things did the lady in this story have going against Her? This lady suffered for twelve years with this problem, issue of blood, she was not able to touch anyone maybe spouse, children no one. She had to isolate herself from people and I guess the isolation was very unbearable. The discomfort from losing extreme amounts of blood was very draining. Do you think she was superstitious about touching Jesus clothes? How would you assess the quality of her faith? I really don't believe she was in any way superstitious, her is a woman suffering and for her to touch Jesus garment, her faith was great and it took guts. She probably felt she had nothing to lose, her world was already in turmoil. Why did Jesus stop? Do I think there was an actual transfer or flow of power? Jesus stop because he knew something had just touched his spirit. I believe power left him or He would have never made that statement. Few people have had the gumption and the nerve to push their way to Jesus the way this woman did. Why is this so? Why do many fail to receive answers to their prayers? I can really relate to this story, because I myself many years ago, had the same problem with excessive blood loss due to fibroid tumors. Believe me the day to day lifestyle changes you. I had to undergo surgery and that was the time when blood was contaminated with aides/Hiv. So I was worried about getting transfusions, my doctor insisted. I quoted this scripture to her and explained that I felt like the lady in the bible who had and issue with blood, and If she trusted Jesus and I stood on his word and had faith that Jesus would bring me through this surgery without getting a transfusion. Trust and believe, I did and we argued and I stood firm in my belief. Needless to say I did not require any blood from anybody but Jesus. The tumor was removed and it was the size of a 6 month old fetus and I didn't lose a drop of my blood during the procedure. My doctors commented that I had great faith. Jesus told the woman that her faith made her well. I have learned that we must trust Him always and in all things.
  10. Bailey - Greetings 8/14/21 If we take this account seriously, what does it teach us about demons? For one, they truly exist. We see in the readings, demons hide in people and/or come in many forms. Today, they walk around in many forms. We do not have to watch a movie, listen to some of the rock music where satan is glorified, we see people crying out praises to the devil. Jesus took these cries very seriously and helped them. He was not afraid. Now there has been a call for priests to perform exorcisms. Before no one believed in them, including the church. You have to meet the list of being possessed by the devil. I have not seen and/or heard of ministers calling out demons. Maybe they do? The fact that Jesus did run away is very present, Why do we feel we need to apologize helping just one person like Jesus did on this occasion? I don't feel I have apologize to anyone, but if I am ashamed of Gospel and what is written, then that would make me ashamed of Jesus. I want to be a disciple who is not afraid and that stands on the word of God. What do we learn from the account about the pigs that we wouldn't have known if they hadn't been mentioned? That these demons were afraid of Satan, it was as if they knew what would happen to them or what waited for them upon there return to hell, would be far worse. Asking to go into the pigs was a blessing. Why did the healed man want to go with Jesus? Why didn't Jesus let him? The heal man felt relieved to be free, he longer had to endure the pain he was going through. He felt love and compassion the this man who saved his life. He felt love for Jesus, because no one had ever displayed to form of affection in his life. Jesus did not allow the man to go with because, I believe He wanted the man to return to the people who didn't want him around to share to the good news of his miracle. To be spokes person of the miracle and the goodness of Jesus. Where did they find clothes to clothe the healed man, do you think? Why does the story mention the man's nakedness? Jesus took them off his back or from one of the disciples. Are we not suppose to feed the hungry and clothed to poor! The nakedness is mention, probably because he was naked and being possess, it was what made people afraid of him. Now, if you run around naked, you get locked up for attention seeking behavior or just being a pervert. Indecent exposure is considered a criminal act by today's standards. People are walking around naked or half naked and nothing happens to them? What is going on with mankind? How does Jesus react to the rejection of the townspeople of the Garasenes? Jesus knew when to pick and chose his battles, just walk away from the angry crowd, those that have ears and eyes let them see the goodness of the Lord.
  11. Bailey Greeting's 8/11/21 1. What does it take to banish the fear that we sometimes feel? I must continue to look to my Lord, who has the power to speak to my situation and his word is accomplished. I must trust HIS authority to perform miracles., I must accept that I have no power, still I must trust Him. In lesson 21, it states, " Jesus can speak his word across whatever distances and delegate his power to be exercised by you and me, here and now, by authorized means." In the long run, I must continue to Trust in the Lord and lean not unto my own understanding and acknowledge that there's nothing you can't do. Always trust and believe.
  12. Bailey greetings 7/31/21 The theme of Luke 8:1-21 The true following of Jesus Christs word is to let your light sign as one who is not afraid of the gospel of the word of God. In this day of so many "so call preachers", people of hearing false teachings from dead ministers, I have said this before, people want to be feed and see what is it that stirs the spirit about this man named Jesus'. What is going to give me the glory if I can't see the true light of the Lord. I don't want to see you at the bar, then preach to me, is this your light? Show me the way to Jesus through your lamp light. Through this light, I have been set free, I am no longer blind, God's been good to me. I hope my light shines so bright with delivering his word, that I light up a stadium. Saints, please keep my Denzel (my dog) in your prayers, He just started having seizures in the past month, My vet said she doesn't treat these conditions and I would have to travel to another city for treatment and care, I don't have a car and can't afford his treatment. I have been praying for a healing for him. Please join me. Thank you for your time and prayers. Pat
  13. Bailey Greeting 7/24/21 How is the devil active when seed is sown, according to Jesus? What is the devil trying to prevent? The devil hates converts! His goal to seek, kill and destroy. Like a new convert or saint, they must come willingly and be receptive to what they do with the new seeds of life they are hearing or receiving. It now becomes do they really want to be planted or just be a weed, if willing they will grow and thrive, if not they will not allow anyone to water them. Their must also be a hunger to learn about the kingdom, receive it and believe it. Do they know that without this food they will truly die. It is a choose. The devil will try to kill this flower, unless the flower fights back and grows. It must be strong to fight. We also must remain strong as disciples to help water this flower, don't let it die. Keep the word ever present and maybe a verse of scripture or a song, words of encouragement. The final and really final decision will be theirs. Continue to pray for them and bless them.
  14. Bailey Greetings 7/24/27 How could people listen to Jesus, but not really understand what he was saying? Many of Jesus' teachings if not all where about the kingdom of God, lessons taught, but are people really in listening with an open mind and heart. Are they really willing to receive what is being taught? Sometimes people block out what is being said, not receiving the true message. They may lack the need or hunger to be feed the word of Jesus. Does one ask, what did I get from this message.
  15. Bailey - Greetings 7/24/21 What was the content of Jesus' messages? It was to spread the good news of the kingdom of God, as a present and powerful. He spoke of Reign of God in ways so real that you can feel it.
  16. BAILEY, GREETINGS 7-6-21 How would you describe the expression on Simon the Pharisee's face when he saw the woman touching Jesus' feet? I looked at this in several ways, Simon did not look or feel uncomfortable with the presence of this woman as if she was not unfamiliar with his home, and also a bit of jealousy toward Jesus', His contempt was more toward Jesus.! Even though it is not mention, was their a relationship between them, the woman and Simon? 2. What was the sinful woman's motive for coming to Jesus? I really don't like the word MOTIVE could she have been their to hear the Rabbi speak. Like many women going through some type of struggle in their lives, the desire to hear words of comfort and love that will place in a better place and make them feel like they are somebody. 3. Why did Jesus let her continue, since by all appearances what she was doing was scandalous ? It doesn't say in the material what she looked like, She reached out in faith, she was spiritually grieving and came to the only person who could make her whole. Her love for Jesus was greater than anyone else in that room. She knew her circumstances could not be forgiven until she touched the feet of Jesus a sign of her repenting. 4. Is your love for the Lord more like the sinful woman's or Simon's? Why I not perfect by no means and my love for the Lord is more like the sinful woman. Each day I thank him for his grace and mercy for allowing me another day. My Christian journey has not been easy, trials', heart ache, pain, suffering from sickness, but I made it. Simon was one with the Motive, maybe how he could try and trap Jesus. I don't know, but from the readings, his heart was not right. May we all pray for lost sinful women out there looking for someone and we pray in Jesus name they find the Kingdom and hear the Good news of Christ. May they never be lost as long as they got King Jesus.
  17. Bailey Greetings 6/29/21 Happy Birthday to Me 1. In what ways is your position in the Kingdom greater that John the Baptist's? That is a hard question, as disciples, we are still crying out in the night, preparing the way for the Lord. Making a way in the desert a highway for our God. Times are even harder, faced with opposition on every side. We must grow in wisdom and spiritual insight, seek favor with God, and people. We must make ready a people for the Lord Isaiah 40: 3-5 . We must believe with perfect faith like john when spread the good news. We must remain humble, walk with love, show love and love your neighnor.. Remember He Jesus did not come down from the cross to save himself, but he died to save you and me. When minister to a very tough crowd and your words have to mean it. So if they knock you down, if you can look up, then you can get up in the mighty name of Jesus'.
  18. Bailey,Greetings 6/28/21 Why do you think John the Baptist had doubts about Jesus was? John knew of the judgement, the miracles and the great deeds Jesus had done, but he had not seen His Judgement, which he had expected. John also expected answers, which Jesus did not give him. 2. Why didn't Jesus answer John's questions directly? Why did he let his deeds speak instead. Jesus quoted Luke 7: 22 - 23. There was no way that John could know that the Messiah's healing and atonement would come first, separated by thousands of years from judgement that would signal at the end of the age. I believe John felt the heavy burden on his heart of what was to come and want maybe wondered if this cup could past from him.(being beheaded)
  19. Bailey Greetings 6/19/21 1. Did Jesus heal all the sick he saw? Did Jesus raise all the dead people he encountered? As Jesus past thru the town, people were receiving miracles, all found hope, because in his presence, through his touch, life could be different for them. No he did not raise all the dead, It would have been the True Walking Dead. 2. How do you explain him raising the widow's son at Nain while passing many graveyards on his route? During this route, Jesus felt compassion for the widow. He knew that she was lost without her son no longer in her life. Just the mere thought of who would take care of her, the land her home and even help her financially. I think he also was thinking of his own mother as well. 3. How can a sense of compassion help you to pray effectively? I find that easy just when I look around what is going on in the world today. If you turn on the news you can't help but have compassion. The virus, people out of work, human sex traffic, what is happening in Israel, the constant struggles of the government to turn it's back on the word of God. I can go on and on. We need more pray just like the centurion said, stop by master pray for my servant. Lord, when you stop by my neighbor and your blessing him, have some mercy and compassion and breathe a little on me.
  20. Bailey, Greetings 6-7-21 1. State the insight that the centurion had of Jesus' power. How did this insight differ from that of Jesus' disciples at the time? The centurion was just not a your everyday gentile. I believe he was a man of faith. He had authority to command his men and others, but he had heard of Jesus and was amazed at him, he followed Jesus, like a smart solder he knew the power of the man. Not just any man. Now this is a sign of someone stepping out of his element and into that of faith and trust. Look, he had friends who spoke on his behalf, Lord you don't have to trouble yourself, I DO NOT DESERVE TO HAVE YOU COME UNDER MY ROOF. In Luke 7:6-9, Jesus comments, on his faith. We today , could we do that? The centurion acted as a disciple by ministering to one of the sick, his sense of mission of talking to Jesus in the time of trouble, a cry for help. He was on a mission to help the sick, the oppressed and broken. It looks as if this man would have had the spirit of Christ within him. The centurion displayed a faith that even the disciples had not shown during the times. 2. What portion of Jesus' mission do you believe he has delegated to you? This question was difficult for me, I have been so confined to house due to the Pandemic, having to wear a face mask, having no contact with the outer world, I am really forced to live inside my house. All I have left is just the me and the Lord and the dog. I have gotten use to the quiet time and no one coming by. I did have a home care worker but the girl was stealing everything she could. Senior Services wouldn't help me, so I just take care of myself. It's not so bad. So being with Jesus' gives me time to reflect on scripture and read. I do allot of bible studies, it helps. So is this what is delegated to me?
  21. Bailey Greetings, 5/28/21 1. Con men continue to trick people and take advantage of them. How can you tell them, according to Jesus' teaching? Today most con men come via the phone with all sorts of tactics now of days. The new one is social security-related fraud, identity theft, I think Jesus wants us to be alert and let the holy spirit guide us, because the con man quotes scripture very well and sometimes knows it better than you. The bible says be not deceived, the corruption that is in a person can't help but manifest itself in his words and deeds. Oh yes, never, never give social security numbers, birth dates, these things, the con artist should already know if they are from the government. Or JUST HANG UP. 2. How does what you say when you're angry indicate what is in your heart? Love it, they sometimes say a drunk person always speak the truth, because nothing is holding them back. One should never hold rage within themselves, it may cause them to say or do things that they may later regret. When I was younger, my mother called it my Dr. Jickal and Mr. Hyde personality because I would hold my temper and when it came out no-one like it or me. As I got older, I learned to asked God to speak to my heart holy spirit, give me the words to say and tell me what to do. I have let this guide my tongue, most of life. Think before I speak, Lord bridle my tongue, because I know the tongue is sharper than a two edged sword and get one in trouble and this has helped me along my Christian journey.
  22. Bailey Greetings 5/17/21 What kind of judging does Jesus forbid in this passage? When pass judgement or make judgement or a statement against anyone, make sure that it is true. We must remember most of all our Lord. We must also remember not to bare false witness against thy neighbor, the jails are full with false statements and testimonies and untruths. We hold these truths to be self evident. We live in a world of finger pointers, where is the love we should be showing to one another. I have never seen so many talk shows, tell all, gossip papers, and lets not forget the twitter and so on. Does it hold truth, who knows and who really cares. One should only concern themselves with what did Jesus say and How can I make it to Heaven and bring someone along with me. 2. What do giving and forgiving have in common? God says to be a cheerful giver, give and it shall be given unto you, and don't forget to give to the Church. I read where this giving has been on the decline as well as the growth in the church membership There is a gospel song that goes " You can't beat God in giving, no matter how hard you try." Just like you forging others you must forgive as God has done for you. Even now, American's wait for that stimulus check, but as a reminder, don't forget God! and even those who didn't get a check!
  23. Bailey 5/8/21 In looking at all the questions and the chapter Love Your Enemies our Lord suffered and died for us. He lived a life of love and expects us to do like wise. Given the state of the world not to retaliate, turn the other cheek, find no fault we know is not easy. Know one told us that being a disciple would easy. We are to live by Godly wisdom and to respond according to biblical principles. We must try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord (Eph.5:10; James1:5). And the best way to know what pleases God is to read is word.. Whatever the circumstances, let the Lord search your heart and either affirm your innocence or convict you. With the violence don't let it effect your heart, give praise to God for peace.
  24. Bailey Greetings 5/8/21 Why is loving your enemy so much like divine love? What is the implication of this for our salvation? For our lifestyle? When I accepted Jesus as I my Lord and Savor I was not prepared for the real life drama that came with it. I had always been a Christian born and raised in the church, sang in the choir, lived in a very ruff community, gangs drugs you name it and it was there. I faced my fair share of bullies, turn the other cheek, but you did not have that choice wearing a catholic school uniform. The nuns were always call my mother that I was fighting. I heard the speeches of turning the other cheek. Well the nuns did not live on my block. I learned to pray for strength and patience. Lord help me to turn the other cheek (please)! I felt in my christian walk, it became harder. I asked how did Jesus do it? People in these streets got issues. The bible verses were on my lips daily, I was still haunted by my same community. I became a peace officer, my dream, what did I do that for? Lord Please give me strength, I prayed going in and coming out, Now I was faced with new Demons, Defendants that lived around me, that I faced in court. I prayed and I prayed. I was shot at, threated just like being back in school. When I arrived home I would sing, I want Jesus to walk me, hold my hand Lord bridle my tongue, because I would be quick with the words and the Lord knew it. Being saved is more than I asked for. I started to fast and pray. I continued I regular church life, choir, praise and worship team, bowling and things got better. My life got better. Instead the community came to me asking for help to get them out of trouble. It wasn't easy but I loved it.
  25. Bailey Greetings 5/6/21 It's great to be alive! Why do we seek to please people? Why is pleasing people such a trap for Christians? Is there anything good about trying to please people? Why is it necessary to get this in balance in our lives? I think it's in our nature to be liked and to try and like other people. Now you have people who they just don't care for or like anything or anybody for no reason. Christians (some) feel it is their duty to please everybody and will go out of their way to please, which can be over the top. People will take their kindness as weakness. God commands us to Love our neighbors, but our neighbors don't always return it. I have been burnt by trying to please other people, and its never enough. You have to draw the line. People will disturb the calm peace of your soul. In a way, I love this time of being in isolation, I only have to please myself and pray.
