  1. Moses was using his rod as a rallying point for the troops. But since troops in all but the most modern warfare used flags as rallying points, perhaps "banner" conveys the idea effectively to our time. The staff in Moses' hands, the "rod of God" was that pole or standard lifted high that won the battle for Israel -- Yahweh-nissi. The Lord is our banner in the battles we face in that it describes one of zhis characteristics -- Yahweh my banner, the one I look to in battle as my rallying point.

  3. Jesus did not call on the heavenly host because of us. He was sent to be the sacrificial lamb for us, to restore us to a right relationship with the Father. His deliverance by the heavenly host would have assured our damnation as the heavenly host is there to do His bidding. They would have destroyed all that were fighting against their Commander. They would have possibly annihilated the very creation God sought to save.
  4. Elisha's servant was afraid because of the enemy's army that surrounded them. The difference between Elisha and his servant is that Elisha, rooted and grounded in his relationship with God, understood that there was an invisible army there to help them. For our eyes to be opened, it takes an intimate knowledge of the God we proclaim to serve. It means we are ready to pursue Hs agenda rather than our own. This scripture strengthens me in the knowledge that He is with me and He is greater than any force the comes against me. He is the overcoming power within me.
  5. When Joshua challenges him with, "Friend or foe?" why does the Commander answer, "Neither"? Isn't he for the cause of Israel's army? No. Israel's army must be enlisted in his cause. He is the Commander, not they. When things are difficult we wonder, "Is God on my side?" Wrong question. The more appropriate question is, "Am I on God's side?" During the encounter, after the Commander informed Joshua who He was, Joshua knew he was in the presence of the Holy, As a result, he fell prostrate on his face before the Commander. After this encounter, Joshua was strengthened to complete the task set before him. He knew that God was fighting for and with him. He was not carrying this battle on his own.
  6. It tells me there is a weightiness and substance to Him that is real and tangible. I can know, hear and touch Him even though He is Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18 shows us that as we contemplate (look upon) His glory, we are transformed into His image, thus bestowing upon us His glory.
  7. It brings new illumination that He alone is conceptualized in He is All in all, King of kings and Lord of lords. It humbles me to know that this all powerful Being wants to have a close relationship with me. In worship, it makes me want to run into His embrace, in the safe place of His love.
  8. Until beginning this study, I thought I had a good concept of Most High God. After beginning this study, my vision has expanded. There is a height, breadth, length and depth to God that I want to explore. He is Supreme above all things. He is vast beyond my understanding. I'm excited to know Him more.
  9. Both believed that the Most High God was greater than anything--greater in power, ability, scope and dimension.
  10. Hello, My name is Gloria. I am from Virginia. I look forward to this study.
