We see in Samuel 16 that God for uses Samuel to anoint David. We read in the scriptures that from the moment that he is anointed that a mighty power came upon him. He was now able to work with the Holy Spirit to do the Lord's bidding. Again in Psalm 51 we see David asking the Lord to not take your Holy Spirit away from him. David is aware that he would not be able to do anything unless the Holy Spirit empowers him to do it.
