The anointing that John was talking about is the unction from the holy one (which is the Holy Spirit) The anointing oil was associated with the Holy Spirit (1 Sam. 16:13), In Acts 10:38 anointing is connected to the ministry of the Holy Spirit and christ's ministry and in 1 John 2:27 the anointing is the Holy Spirit is connected to the ministry of the spirit in the life of a believer since 1 Cor. 2:12-14 tells us the Holy Spirit is the one who teaches believers. so far as you only believe then automatically you have the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit allows us to know all things and teacheth us the truth for us to abide in Him(God)forever. The Holy Spirit teaches us through the word when we study the word which is the sword of the Spirit, the spirit will use it to us to reveal Christ to us.
