  1. 1. Is it reasonable to expect that the power of the Spirit will be as great in a Christian today as it was in Jesus? It is reasonable to expect that the power of the Holy Spirit will be as great in a Christian today as it was in Jesus Jesus because there are examples in the bible where people have experienced the power of the Holy Spirit. Also in the scriptures ,Jesus told his disciples ''I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing .He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the father.'' So Jesus himself did confirmed it. 2. How should you heal the broken hearted in your world? Who are the oppressed in your particular community? As a believer who is called to serve and to proclaim the Good News, I aspire to be like Jesus. Since Jesus' mission included preaching the Good News to the poor and healing the sick , now more than ever I would like to heal the broken hearted in my community by telling them about Jesus and all that He has done for us. This can bring them hope for the future knowing that all isn't lost. As a black person ,I am one of the oppressed people in my community .
  2. Why do you think Jesus "rubbed it in" with two stories of God blessing Gentiles while Jews were still in need? Is he egging on the residents of Nazareth?: Jesus certainly wasn't rubbing it in or egging them on but rather wanted the Nazarene to know that even back then , during the prophets Elijah and Elisha's time ,until His time the Israelites had demonstrated so much unbelieve that they were neither worthy nor prepare to see a miracle performed by Jesus. Why couldn't they kill Jesus at Nazareth? Why did Jesus willingly allow himself to be captured in the Garden of Gethsemane?: Jesus willingly allowed himself to be captured in the Garden if Gethsemane because (1) his time of martyrdom hadn't come and (2)so that the purpose for which he came to the world could be fulfilled.
  3. Is temptation only merely inevitable, or is it necessary to our growth as disciples? Temptation is necessary to our growth as disciples because innocent faith is not strong faith. Innocent faith may be pure, but it needs testing to be strong. As stated in James 1:2-4, when trouble of any kind came your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. Sot let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. Because of what trials can produce in our life. James tells us to turn trials into times of learning. Tough times can teach us perseverance. Successfully overcoming these adversities produces maturity and strong character; we should see them as opportunities for growth. Did Jesus have any special powers at his disposal to resist temptation that Christians today don't have? In the Christian life we battle against rulers and authorities (the powerful evil forces of fallen angels headed by the devil, who is a vicious fighter). To withstand their attacks, we must depend on God's strength and use every piece of his armour. Ephesians 6:17 states: "Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the spirit which is the word of God". As a son of God, Jesus did have special powers, but the word of God is so sharp and powerful, he didn't need any special powers to face the devil.
  4. Isn't John the Baptist's humble statement, "the thongs of whose sandals I am unworthy to untie," a bit overstated? Are we unworthy to serve Christ? If so, why? If not, why not?The bible tells us that Jesus is the unique Son of God. That means He is on equal footing with God. He assumes the authority to forgive sins. This makes it clear that Jesus has all the characteristics of God: the Messiah, Creator of heaven and earth and everything that is in it. Mighty in power, glorious in holiness and fearful in places. He is the King of the whole of the universe. morally perfect, just and fair. He is changeless, and His kingship will last forever. John know that Jesus is the Messiah who can forgive him his sins and grant him salvation. Therefore John's humble statement isn't overstated but very true. Are we unworthy to serve Christ? If so, why? If not, why not? Since Adams rebellion against God, human nature is to disobey Him. Our sins cut us off from God. Romans 3:10 says no one is righteous, not even one. And Romans 3:23 also says "for everyone has sinned. We all fall short of God's glorious standard". However, we give thanks to God for sending Jesus when we were utterly helpless to come to the world as human, to take our place on the cross so that our sins can be forgiven. Anyone who comes to faith and believes in Christ has been washed clean by the blood of Jesus. This means their disobedience has been forgiven, and sins put out of sight. Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight because of our faith in Jesus, we are worthy to serve Christ.
  5. Why do you think John the Baptist calls people a brood of vipers, a den of snakes? John calls people a brood of vipers and a den of snakes because some went to him to be baptised so they could escape eternal punishment, but they were not really repentant from their sin nor were they willing to change their way of lives. Others were also there as onlookers because they thought they didn't need it due to the fact that they were Jews. How did the Jews' religious pride in Abraham keep them from taking John's call for repentance seriously? How could religious pride have that same effect on us? The Jews considered themselves pure and clean because of their relation with Abraham .Abraham was the ancestor of the Jews and so they thought God's promise to Abraham automatically covered them and therefore faith and tradition elevated them above everyone else. How could religious pride have that same effect on us? We become Christians through God's unmerited favour, as a result of any effort, ability intelligent choice or act of service on our part. This can make us become boastful and make us think we are better than those who are not yet there. We must be careful not to become proud of our Salvation, instead humbly thank God for what he has done and encourage others who are struggling in their faith
  6. What Sources Does Luke Use As He Prepare His Gospel As a doctor,Luke was a man of science and for a man of science he was detailed in his findings. His sources of information for his gospel was one of the most reliable. Luke was a good friend of Paul and used to travel together on Paul's missionary journeys. And so through Paul, Luke was able to interview the disciples and gain access to documents. He also personally spoke to many eyewitnesses.
