Patience and humility are critical in maintaining unity because they are the work of the Holy Spirit. Patience/longsuffering is a fruit of the Holy Spirit and humbly is a attribute of Christ. Jesus humbled Himself and was obedient unto death. Therefore, Paul in Philippians 2 exhorts us to have the same mind as Christ. Humility causes us to die to self! When we have the same mind and attitude as Christ, being humble and patient toward others, we will be able to keep/maintain the unity of the Holy Spirit. For it is the Holy Spirit who unites us in Christ Jesus…There is one body and one Spirit. It worth repeating…Unity in Christ is a work of the Holy Spirit and we are called to maintain the Holy Spirit’s work through humility and longsuffering toward each others in the body of Christ. Pride and impatience, antitheses to humility and patience, destroy the unity in Christ!

Jesus died for us so that we can have eternal life and life abundantly. Therefore, we are to live a life that is reflective of His sacrifice for us; a life that is surrendered to Him so that the Holy Spirt can conform us to the image of Christ. A life worthy of the calling of God is a life that is completely surrendered to Jesus. Not our will but His will in every area of our lives. Then and only then will we be able to walk worthy of the calling, true submission to Jesus Christ…I’ve been crucified with Christ, thus it is no longer I who live, but Christ now lives in me and the life I now life in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me (Galatians 2:20). Subsequently, I die to self daily as I present myself a living sacrifice to Jesus, by the help of the Holy Spirit, because it is my reasonable service (Roman’s 12:1). This I believe is walking worthy of the call of God in Christ Jesus…a surrendered life to Christ!
