  1. Ravens are normally seen as something bad because they are carnivores. But God can use anything he wants to fulfill his will and continue weaving his amazing tapestry (HISstory) in our lives. God created the ravens and maybe from his perspective they were not a bad bird. Just like the animals obeyed God when they went into the ark, the ravens obeyed God in bringing food to Elijah. Elijah certainly had great faith to receive food in the way God chose to send it. I’m sure that Elijah was grateful for God‘s provision even though it was an odd way for God to provide it. God does things in strange ways. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, his ways are higher than our ways. We cannot out-think him or understand why he does things the way he does. We have to accept by faith how he does things and trust that there is a lesson for us.
  2. I lived in the kingdom of Morocco. I cannot even imagine just walking up to the king and telling him there’s not going to be any rain unless I say so. He would probably chop my head off. It must’ve taken Herculean spiritual strength for Elijah to speak that way to King Ahab. The message that Elijah received from God to speak to king Ahab about a drought could ONLY have come from God. As corrupt as that kingdom was, if Elija’s message had not been from God, Elijah would have lost his life on the spot. On the other hand, when the Holy Spirit fills our mouth with his words, we have abilities that we would not have ordinarily had. Look at Peter, the fisherman. He didn’t exactly receive public speaking training. He wasn’t a ToastMaster. But when the Holy Spirit fell on him, he spoke, and he he kept speaking even when it cost him his life.
