  1. In what sense is Yahweh (and his Messiah Jesus) a “stumbling stone” and “a trap and a snare”? You either follow Yahweh and "He will make your paths straight " or try fighting against Him which is impossible and will make life difficult, like stumbling over rocks. In what way are people broken in this stumbling? I think God will break people in any way that might bring them back to Him. Why do you think people stumble over a God who is almighty and righteous and must be obeyed? They don't know Him. They don't believe He is who He say's He is. They have made a god in their mind that is much weaker than God all Mighty who is capable of doing what He say's He is going to do.
  2. What was the gist of Isaiah’s prophetic instruction to Ahaz? "Do not fear" They are safe from the attack, Syria and Israel are like "stubs of smoking firebrand" at the end of their time, almost out. They will not prevail over Judah. Why do you think Ahaz chose to disregard it? Perhaps pride, he felt he knew better. What did Ahaz do instead? Ahaz decided to pay the Assyrians for protection. What was the consequence of this disobedience? He was later taken over by the Assyrians. Why do we sometimes seem to think that we’re smarter than God? Why is it sometimes so hard to do what God tells us to do? In hind sight it makes no sense. Sometimes we forget to ask or look for answers given. Sometimes we don't trust that God will come through, or that we need to help God. We doubt that we are really hearing from God. It's not the answer we want, and we erroneously think we know better.
  3. HowI do you make sense out of these verses? Is Isaiah called to an impossible mission? God already know their hearts, though He would like them to repeat He knows they won't It is an impossible mission, but it is the same mission we are on. So many people that we share the gospel with just don't or can't understand. Why will Isaiah’s prophecy make the task worse? Unfortunately the more some people hear the truth the harder their hearts become. In which parable did Jesus quote this passage (Matthew 13:1-23)? The Parable of the Sower In Jesus’ parable, is there any frustration in preaching the gospel? Of course it is frustrating when people don't understand the truth we are trying to share. Especially when ternary is at stake. Is there any hope? "But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop..." Some people hear and believe and are saved.
  4. What is Isaiah’s reaction to the vision? He is humbled and feels he is much too sinful to be in the presence of God. How does God deal with Isaiah’s fear? He sends an angel to purify him from his sins with a live coal. What question follows Isaiah’s cleansing? "Whom shall I send? Who will go for Us? What is Isaiah’s response to God’s question? Isaiah says "Here am I! Send Me." What is your response when you sense God calling you? I hope I hear Him calling when He has a job for me. I want to hear and obey my Lord God.
  5. Why do you think Yahweh revealed himself in this way to Isaiah? In what ways does this vision reveal God’s majesty? He wanted to show Isaiah His majesty, which he did, by being on a throne, having a robe that filled the temple, having seraphim constantly praising him, the shaking of the post if the door and the smoke that filled the house. What do we learn about Yahweh from the serphaim’s chan? We learn that He is Holy and the whole earth is filled with His glory. The repeating of the work holy could be just emphasis but it could also be Holy Father, Holy Son and Holy Spirit.
  6. The Vintner's (God) expected the vineyard to "bring forth good grapes". He did all He could for the vineyard to be productive. He dug it up and cleared out the stones, planted the best vine. The crop was all "wild (sour) grapes. He will take away it's hedge (protection) and it shall be burned. And break down it's wall and it shall be trampled down. He will lay it waste. It will receive no rain. Vs. 7 says the vineyard is the house of Israel and Judah. He gave them all they needed but they sinned against Him.
  7. This prophecy states that the future Jerusalem will be home to both Jew and gentile. People will want God to teach them His ways. There will be peace in the land no more war. The equipment for war will be turned into gardening tools.
  8. They are God's chosen people but they have turned away from him and continued to sin. When Christians turn away from God they need to repent and turn back to Him. God accuses them of doing evil, not seeking Justice, allowing ruthlessness, not defending orphans and widows. The sin is unreasonable because they are giving up the best of the land (blessings) and they will be devoured by the sword.
