Primarily, the purpose of God putting His Spirit upon selected individuals in the Old Testament, was to empower them to be able to accomplish as task or purpose for which He has called them to. The most obvious effect of the Spirit of God upon a man is transformation; change of the nature of a man's heart which primarily is what God looks to. The effect upon their relationship with God is that they begin to know God more intimately, they begin to draw closer to God because of the presence of the Holy Spirit of God and the effect of a changed heart.
