Jesus "gave himself" with clear intentionality. It was very, very costly. Make no mistake! But his goal was to achieve two things: Redeem us from sin and wickedness.414 Here he forgives us and releases us from the slavery and power of sin. Purify415 a people so they are eager416 to do good works. He purifies our hearts and motives, so that we want to do good of our own free will, not as a means to an end that improves our status with man or God. God's releasing us from the slavery of sin is like releasing us from Egypt = what baggage do we still carry and will we believe Him to go with us into "the promised land" or throughout our day
