  1. In what sense is God's provision of animal sacrifice for forgiveness of sins an expression of his mercy? Were animal sacrifices actually adequate to atone for human sin? The symbolism in sacraficing an umblemished animal; an animal that is "perfect" in a sense and doesn't deserve to die, but must because YOU sinned is just like Christ going to the Cross for all of us. God sacrificed His only Son, which expresses to us His love. Yes it was adequate because that's what God required at the time. It didin't take away the sin, but it is what was required.
  2. The basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin are: Confession of the sin Bringing an animal that has no defect Lay hands on its head Kill the animal by cutting its throat Blood is collected by a priest, put on the horns of the altar, and poured out at the base of the altar Remove the fat portions The meat is eaten The only element today for sacrifice is to confess our sins for forgiveness.
  3. I believe some people categorize humans and animals in the same set. God made us in His likeness and we are to rule over animals and such. But that's difficult for some to understand. I don't agree with crulty towards animals, but back in the day that this study refers to, sacrifice wasn't done in a cruel manner and this was what God REQUIRED for forgiveness. Plain and simple. Because Jesus Christ made the ultimate sacriface on the cross, sacrificing animals is no longer necessary. Farmers kill animals everyday so we'll have meat to eat. I've never seen an animal killed and wouldn't want to witness it, but if were required of me for God's forgiveness of sins, I would do it in a heart beat. I think if those repulsed by bible day animal sacrifice would just consider Jesus, the Lamb of God, giving His innocent life so we might have a chance to eternity, they would understand a bit more.

    Welcome

HI All, I am new to this bible study, but not new in knowing Christ at all. I am so glad that I found this study on line as I have been unable to find any sort of lunch time study group. I live near near Sacramento, Ca and go to a non-denominational chuch near by. I am a mother of 3 and a wife of almost 19 years. I look forward to studing and increasing my knowledge; as well as continuing to spread the good news of Christ to all that will listen!
