  1. Paul wanted to remind Timothy and the church that people are still able to be influenced by false teachings, and that it has been predicted that this would happen. He wants to remind us to stay strong, follow our faith and do what we know is right. Timothy and the church leaders should remind people that there are false teachers out there and that it is coming the time when they will be everywhere and people need to be able to stand strong against these people.
  2. The difference is the teaching, an elder must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it is taught. A deacon is a church official that takes care of the church.
  3. If a person is quick to show temper, anger or be easily persuaded to do things, than he may not be able to lead the church properly. If some church goers are gossipers or intimadators, then the leaders could follow which would not be good. A leader need to be able to stand tall and strong against persuasions. He need to be able to lead the church properly. The church could fall apart if you get improper leaders in the church.
  4. When choosing a leader for a church, you need to be sure that they are true to the church and not using their position for something else. Can they be fully dedicated to the church, do they attend regurally, are they respected by the other people of the church? They should also have a good standing within their family, this shows a loving person whom people can look up to.
  5. I believe that Paul is saying that husband of one wife is a good leader, because God said that a husband is to only have one wife. If a man is only with one woman, than he understands the concept of the devotion to one person. If a leader is unable to control his family, how is he going to be able to control the congregation he leads?
  6. In our church, we have a man for a pastor, but his mother will sometimes lead the service if he is unable to be there. I believe that as long as the service is led with respect to the Lord, and the person is not teaching false teachings then it is okay for a woman to teach, but the focus has to be on the Lord and not on her or something to that effect. The church and society today is a lot more slack on woman in public and the home. A lot of households are led successfully by woman. The woman does teaching even if she doesn't realize it, by raising her children and setting examples for them. In my family, my mom always stayed home and my dad went to work. He worked long hours just to keep us clothed and fed, we never had much, but we knew that mom was always there when we needed her. Woman today play a different role in society than years ago. I worked for many years after I got married, i even raised my son for 3 years alone until I met my husband now. He never liked me to work, but it was necessary in order for us to provide a home and food for our 2 kids. I am unable to work now because of my stroke and seizures that I have, things are tough with just one income, my son has had to go live with relatives and I do get SSI, but in our family, my husband is the leader of the house. Nothing gets approved without his approval and we all look to him for guidance. My belief is that the man, if there is one around, should be the leader of the family and the wife should follow the man.
  7. Women that were more concerned about how they looked rather than worrying about worshiping the Lord threatened the church, because their dressing habits also distracted other people from worshiping the correct way. We can dress sensible when we go to church, not overly dressing, underly dressing or wearing to much makeup. When people are paying more attention to a woman rather than the preacher because of the way a person is dressed, it is wrong. That is not what the Lord wants. He wants you to come to church to worship him, not someone else.
  8. I believe that Paul is referring to the fact that men were coming to the alter with hatred on the minds and trying to worship God. Their minds weren't pure, and they weren't only thinking of the Lord. You are not fully putting everything you have into worship, if you have other things on your mind.
  9. He was trying to show the importance of God and his son and the things they have done for us. He gave His son, Jesus, as ransom for our sins and before that He played the role of mediater, teaching us the correct ways.
  10. Paul emphasizes salvation of all mankind, because the people had became so engaged in preaching their own way, and praying for just the people of he church which left a bunch of people out. God does not want this. When we pray, we should pray for everyone. Thais suggests that the evangelism of the church had become false. The people were teaching and praying for themselves only believing the myths that had generated. This is not the way it should be. They were not a true church of God.
  11. That God is eternal, immortal, invisible and the only God That God likes to be praised, worshiped. It shows that the speaker likes to praise the Lord.
  12. Paul was reminding us that he was a sinner at one time and was yet given a second chance by God to teach His word. He shared this with Timothy and the church to show that if you want forgiveness, God will forgive you and show you the way and the right way to teach the Word. It might help the people to realize that what they are doing is wrong, and go back to the Book and follow the true word, not something made up.
  13. A. Results of the false doctrine: a. people making up stories and creating fantasy family trees b. people looking for more than they have B. doctrinal controversy hurts the spirit of a church because: a. it leads to false teaching b. in false teachings, the teacher will teach things that he believes causing others to believe this, this causes the people to quarrel because they are at odds with each other. People begin to get confused because of the false teachings. They aren't always told the same thing. C. Growth is prevented because people are at each other because of their confusion and gossiping, causing them not to work together. When there is controversy among one another growth can not happen. D. The church's mission is to teach the teaching of the LORD. When you have false teachings, you can't do that. People begin to teach and believe what they want, not the way things are supposed to be.
