  1. Q4.(3 John 9-10) What character flaws does Diotrephes exhibit? Can a person be a strong pastoral leader without developing these traits? 3 John 9-10 reads: 9 I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us. 10 Therefore, if I come, I will call to mind his deeds which he does, prating against us with malicious words. And not content with that, he himself does not receive the brethren, and forbids those who wish to, putting them out of the church. 11 Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but[d] he who does evil has not seen God.
  2. Q3.(3 John 5-8) What are the reasons given in these verses for supporting Christian workers in their ministry?
  3. Q2.(2 John 10-11) Why does the Apostle John tell his readers to refuse hospitality to the false teachers? John tells his readers to refuse hospitality to the false teachers because providing hospitality to the false teachers is the same as to contributing for the development and spread-out of antichrist system as one would be participating in his / her evil deeds. What would refusing hospitality mean for a congregation (as opposed to an individual)?
  4. Q1.(2 John 9) What is the danger of "running ahead" of Christ's teachings to "deeper truths"? Is there any deeper truth out of Christ
  5. Q4.(1 John 5:21) Why does John exhort his "children" to "keep yourselves from idols"? That is because there is only one Lord, God, who deserves praise, as per Deut 6:4-5, 13-15:
  6. Q3.(1 John 5:14-15) What are the two conditions to answered prayer in 1 John? (See also 3:22.) The two conditions for answered prayer are: 1.That
  7. Q2.1 John 5:11-12) What is the difference between saying "this life is in the Christian Church" and "this life is in his Son"? By saying
  8. Q1.(1 John 5:4-5) How does a defeatist mentality differ from a belief that in Christ we have overcome the world? Here is how the defeatist mentality differs from the belief that in Christ we have overcome the world:
  9. Q4.(1 John 4:11-18) What kind of fear should we have towards God? We should fear God to show Him our complete reverence to Him. He is our creator, He is the owner of the Universe, the Almighty, the one who rules over us. He has the last word over our lives now and after death. Our lack of fear to Him is foolishness, but our fearing Him is wisdom. What kind of fear is extinguished by his love perfected in us? What kind of attitude should we have towards future judgment? When we truly fear God then we start understanding Him, we get the knowledge about Him. One of these aspects of knowledge is about his attributes, some of which are :God is Love, God is merciful, God is omniscient, omnipresent, etc. Omnipresent Merciful Love! So we stop getting afraid of God. We fear Him, we are not afraid! So, we get closer to Him. As for the future, the judgment is that we shouldn
  10. Q3. (1 John 4:7-8) Why is the statement, "God is love," so important? It is important because it draws us near Him. Who does not want to be loved? Everyone appreciates a loving, caring gesture. So, knowing that God is Love will trigger in every sensible creature the desire to stay closer to Him. What does it say about God's nature? How does love being the essence of God's nature affect us? It says to me that even when I do not understand something God is doing in my life, I must believe there is love in it. Example: Sometimes God allows us to suffer difficulties just for us to open our eyes and correct our wrong behaviour. Only attentive people will realize those moments God teaches a lesson. If we were created in God's image of love, but fell, what does this say about the road to healing in our lives? Why does love demand a willingness to forgive? It says to me I need to go back to God. Accept and follow His way shown in His word. Then everything will be right. He/She who is able to forgive manifests the essence of love. When one can forgive then one can do whatever good things we can think of to other people.
  11. Q2.(1 John 4:4) What in us is greater than false prophets and even Satan? The Holy Spirit which is in us is greater than false prophets and Satan. In what sense have we overcome them? False prophets and the Satan are always around trying to mislead us. We have not given room to them and we are still with Jesus, so we have overcome them. In what way will we overcome them in the future? How should this truth affect fear in our lives? We stay in our faith. With the knowledge that Jesus has risen from death no way shall we loose faith and move astray! What
  12. Q1. (1 John 4:1-3) Why is believing that Jesus was God in the flesh so important? It is very important because through this belief we understand the real dimension of Love of God to mankind. God, compassionate for mankind lost in their sins, wants to rescue them through Christ. But, only the one who will believe in Jesus Christ as the Lord, God and Saviour will get benefit from the rescue plan. Why doesn't Satan want us to believe that? Satan knows and understands very well God
  13. Q4. (1 John 3:22) We know that God doesn't "owe" us anything. So what is the relationship between obedience and answered prayer? Do we "earn" God's favor through obedience? God doesn
  14. Q3. (1 John 3:16-18) What does it mean to "lay down your life for your brothers"? Laying down one
  15. Q2. (1 John 3:15) How can anger turn into hatred in our hearts? In what way do anger and hatred relate to murder? How can we get rid of stored-up anger in our hearts so that we may love those who have offended us? Allowing anger to grow in the heart is the way to making it turn into hatred. When anger grows into hatred it may lead to murder. To overcome this we must always remember God is love. God manifested His love to us by sending us Christ. If we can think of Christ on the Cross, dying for us, then we will understand what LOVE is and we will be able to exercise love on our own scale.
