  1. In Paul's day this was how a prostitute or loose women would dress to gain attention to themselves. By making our aim godliness.
  2. Because of the controversies stirred up by the false teachers, there was a lot of anger and resentment between the men of the church. God will not accept worship from hearts that are not pure.
  3. In order for all to be saved, There had to be a mediator that would be the go between seeing as sinners we cannot approach a holy God. The ransom paid had to be fully man (representing us) and fully God (who knew no sin)His substitutionary death satisfied God's righteousness and fulfilled his love towards us.
  4. Salvation of all mankind is God's purpose through Jesus Christ. God wants all to come to a knowledge of the truth. Their focus was on themselves and not Christ. Anytime we focus on Christ our focus will naturally turn to others because that was what he was all about.
  5. Why does Paul need to remind Timothy about the prophesies spoken over him? That Timothy was commissioned by God and that his power and strength would be with him. In practical terms, what does "fight the good fight" really mean? Don't give up. Why does Paul tell Timothy to "hold on to faith and a good conscince"? Because this is what the false teachers didn't do. He needs to be focused on his task and at the same time remain pure as he does what he has been called to do. What temptation is Paul trying to counter in his young protege? Neglecting his gift and call on his life.

  7. Q3. (1Timothy 1:17) What do we learn about God from this doxology? He has no end, impervious to corruption, invisible (for now), and the one and only! What do we learn about praise? He is more than worthy! Have you ever tried speaking out a doxology in your personal prayer or praise time? Yes What effect does a doxology have on the speaker? He inhabits the praises of his people when done in Spirit and in truth. His presence is so sweet!
  8. Q2. (1 Timothy 1:12-14) Why does Paul comment on his own life after a paragraph on the law (1:8-11)? Why does he share this with Timothy and the church that will read the letter? How might sharing this help get the church back on center? I think he is trying to show them that eventhough he was zealous for the law that he was doing it in ignorance and that they were as well. He shows them that they need to focus on faith in Christ because no matter how much they were in error that there is forgiveness and eternal life in the mercy of Christ. Their focus must be on Christ and his teachings.
  9. The false doctrines that involved Jewish myths and endless genealogies was just part of the "traditions of the elders" that "nullify the word of God" (Mark 7) If we hold to the teachings of men, we are hypocrites, our hearts are far from him, and our worship is in vain. A church that is not following the leadership of the Holy Spirit is not a church that will be in the unity of the Spirit. Only the true gospel produces life. Many "toxic " gospels that are being taught produce sick, weak, unhealthy Christians that do more for the work of Satan than anything else! People are looking for truth in the middle of the chaos of the world and when they look to the church for that truth, too many times all they find is more chaos! So the church is unable to fulfill the great comission until they repent and get back to the word of God and then living it out.
