  1. Q1. (Genesis 29) Why do you think God allows Jacob to be tricked into 14 years of labor for two wives?

Jacob has always been about doing things for himself and his own way but now he has made a vow to be submissive to God so therefore I feel like the Lord is going to test Jacob and train him and to build character in him so he can be the man that God wants him to be. And to get the spirit of deceit out of his system to humble him.

What purposes do you think God is working out through these circumstances?

To train Jacob up to what he needs him to be and prepare him for the journey that still lies ahead. All to allow Jacob to humble down to submissiveness.

  2. Q3. (Genesis 28:18-21) What did it mean to Jacob to set up the stone?

This was an appropriate way to honor remember God's revelation of himself in the place where he had the dream.

What did anointing the stone mean to him?

Cleansing and consecration or setting himself apart for God.

Why does he do these things?

Because he was in awe about the revelation he had had with God and he wanted to show God his respect and honor of such a great privilege and to assure God that he wanted to be faithful to Him.

What does he promise God in his vow?

That Yahweh would be his God and that the pillar he had set up would be God's house and that he would give God a tenth of all that God gives him.

  3. Q4. (3:7) Why should a husband relate to his wife with knowledge and wisdom?

A man is suppose to be the head of the house which means he is to see to it that everyone is taking care of and is well provided for. He should look at his wife as the weaker vessel in a sense that she is his glory and not his slave. With this understanding he will respect her and treat her as so.

In what way does this demonstrate love?

God looks at us as a way for others to see His glory therefore He pours out His love and blessings on us so that we can shine. This is also the same with a man's wife for if a man treats his wife with respect and love others can see what can of man he is. For the Bible say that a man should a wife as he does his own body for no one hates his self

    .

In what way does this demonstrate self-interest?

When we realize that people look at the whole family and not just at one person then we understand that the best way to help ourself is to respect our family.

Why do men sometimes try to dominate their wives?

Men like to feel superior so because of this they want to dominate the wife to look big to others.

Why do wives sometimes try to dominate their husbands?

I think that sometimes wives feel threatened by the husbands ego and tries to show that she has just as much right as he does to be in charge.

    What harm does this do?

This destroys their relationship and also it shows all others that there is a problem at home. It also destroys any light of Christ that they may have had.

How is domination of another person contrary to God's nature?

The Lord says in His word that we should treat everyone equal and to always prefer our brother before our self. It never says for us to be dominate over others so therefore when we are trying to dominate others we are going against God's word.

  4. Q3. (3:4-6) How does a person cultivate inner beauty?

We cultivate inner beauty when we allow the Lord to have full control of our lives and every thing we do magnifies His name and not promoting ourselves.

    How does one gain character?

By allowing God to work in our lives and doing those things He asks us to do. Then when others see how the Lord works in our lives that builds character.

Why is true character so important and precious to God?

When we are submitting to the Lord and allowing Him to be our guide and leader to build a character of Christlikeness then are we pleasing to God. For this opens the door for others to see His glory and come unto Him for salvation.

How can character help a Christian woman win and hang onto her husband?

When a woman is submissive and true to God and her husband no matter how the husband act or treats her, she can shine a light of Christ to him so that he two can come to Christ and be more submissive. Therefore drawing closer to the Lord and herself through Christ building a greater relationship.

  5. Q2. (3:3) Why should women try to look their best?

Women should only try to look their best to glorify the Lord and not to bring attention to their selves. For we are not to try to bring glory to ourselves but unto God.

How can trying to look their best divert women from what is more important?

When women start trying to look their best in the flesh they begin to take their focus off of God and put it on them selves. This therefore causes thoughts and minds to draw away from God.

    What is the balance?

The balance is to always keep our minds and our focus on God and doing everything we do to glorify Him, both in our actions and our conversations. When we try to look our best we need to do every thng we can to glorify The Lord.

  6. i. Why is submission so difficult for us humans?

We as humans have a tendency to want to be in control or in charge, leader, instead of submitting unto others even unto God sometimes. So many times we get so caught in ourselves thinking that we know the right way and everybody else just don't understand.

ii. Does submission require you to be silent when you don't agree or feel something can be improved?

We don't exactly have to be silent we can offer our thoughts and opinions as long as we understand that we don't have to be right and have it our way. We shouldn't start arguing over matters just because we think that we are right and they are wrong. The Bible even tells to take fault ourselves even when we are right to keep down trouble.

iii. When is submission wrong for Christian?

We should never submit to doing anything wrong or sin in any way. We should never submit to doing anything that is going to hurt or cause pain to someone else.

  7. Q6. Extra Credit. Whose character flaws most remind you of your own? Isaac's, Rebekah's, Esau's, or Jacob's? Why?

I like to think of myself as having the character of Jacob, for I'm always setting back waiting on what's going to come to come except for maybe not willing to deceive to get it.

How is God working to improve your character?

The Lord is really helping me to calm down and see that He is in control and if I'll just let Him, He will take care of all things.

  8. Q5. (Genesis 25:28) What happens when your children sense that you love one child more than another?

This can break the child's spirit and cause him/her to become rebellious and do things he/she shouldn't to get the attention he/she thinks is missing.

Did such discrimination happen to you when you were growing up? No

If so, how are you finding healing? I feel this can only come from the Holy Spirit.

How can we as parents love our children equally but differently?

We must understand that all children are different in some ways and therefore we must allow each one work in their own ways and equally praise each for their accomplishments. Not expecting each one to do the same task equally but understand their ability.

  9. Q4 (Genesis 27;33) Why Couldn't Isaac reverse his blessing once he discovers Jacob's trickery?

Because the blessing was from the Lord and there was no way to reverse what was done.

What is Isaac's role in this blessing?

Isaac was the vessel that God used to carry out His plan.

What is God's role in it?

This was God's plan from the beginning that Jacob would rule over Esau, and even though deceit was present God's plan still stands.

  10. Q3. (Genesis 27:6-29) God had told Rebekah that Jacob is supposed to rule over Esau (Genesis 25:23). To what extent does this excuse her plan to deceive her husband Isaac?

It doesn't give her any right to deceive her husband for we never have the right to do wrong. Sometimes we just get impatient and try to help God along the way.

How much responsibility does Jacob bear in the deception?

We always are responsible for our actions no matter what the reason, even though Jacob was being obedient to his mother he still knew that what she was asking him to do was wrong and had the opportunity to decide not to do it.

  11. Q2. Was Rebekah a spiritual woman, that is, interested in spiritual things?

Yes I believe that Rebekah was a spiritual woman and had to be spiritually minded to volunteer to go so far to be with Jacob.

    Was Isaac a spiritual man?

Yes I believe that Isaac was a spiritual man as well and even when he saw that Rebekah was barren he cried out to the Lord for her and the Lord heard his prayer and Rebekah conceived twins.

Which do you think was the more spiritually sensitive?

I feel like Rebekah was more sensitive about her spirituality than Isaac for she struggled with the Lord on what was going on inside of her and hearkened unto the Lord and always pondered on what the Lord had shown her.

What evidence of spirituality do you see in Jacob?

Jacob has a meek spirit and is willing to wait out his fate in life, patient and not to anxious.

    Esau?

Esau is all about his self and now without any patience, therefore not putting any trust in the Lord.

  12. Q1. Why does the New Testament condemn Esau for selling his birthright? (Hebrews 12:16-17)

Esau was too quick to sell out for the desires of the flesh, instead of being patient and waiting on the Lord.

What did selling the birthright represent?

Esau selling his birthright represents our soul when we sell out to satan for the desires of the flesh or of the things of this world.

What does this transaction say about Esau's character and values?

This transaction shows just how weak Esau was in the flesh and how he was looking at the present values and not on the long term values of his life or soul.

What does it reveal bout Jacob's character and values?

This lets us know that Jacob was looking out for the future for his self and all that he could get out of it. Jacob was looking ahead and was willing to do what ever it took to plan for his future.

  13. Q4.(2:24b) If Jesus died to set us free from sin's power, why does sin have such power us still?

The only way sin can still have power over us is because we have failed to completely die to sin ourselves. We still hang on to the flesh and its desires and that's what gives sin power over us. If we could just grab hold of that perfect love that Christ has then we could walk just as He did and without sin in our lives. But we must continue to strive for that perfect love in our lives and walk in His footsteps daily.

In practical terms, how can we "die to sin"?

In order to die to sin we must be willing to give up pride and selfishness and allow the flesh to die and continuously seek after the love of Christ in everything we do praying to the Father that He would help us to be more like Him everyday and that He will take control of my life that I will please Him by the things that I do.

In everyday language, what does "live for righteousness" mean?

To live for righteousness is to live everyday seeking to please the Father praying that in someway we can glorify Him in my daily actions and my conversation. Always thinking of doing that which is right and good according to the will of God. We live that we may please the Father and that is only done by being obedient and doing those things that are right and good.

  14. Q3.(2:24a) This may seem like a simplistic question, but give it thought before you answer, and then answer thoughtfully. What is the significance to you personally that Jesus bore your sins in His own body on the cross?

It is of great importance that Jesus bore my sins up on the cross, because if He hadn't of bore our sins on that cross and that without sin then we wouldn't have any chance of eternal life with our Father in heaven. Instead we would have to pay our own price which is eternal damnation. Christ is our only hope to life eternal and that's because He was willing to pay our price and suffer for us that we wouldn't have to suffer. Therefore I declare that without the sacrifice that Christ made on that Cross then I would have to die the death. But Praise be to God that He was willing and able to pay that sin dept.

  15. Q2. Why is Jesus' sinlessness important to understanding your salvation?

To follow Jesus' footsteps we must fully understand His life and how He walked without sin even when He was persecuted He still sinned not. Leaving us an example to follow Him in all things.

In what way do you think Jesus suffered when your sins were poured into His soul?

When my sins where poured into Jesus' soul I'm sure that everything completely turned inside out and therefore almost destroying His soul because sin and love doesn't mix and perfect love has no part with sin. Therefore my sins is what crucified Jesus in the flesh.

How could a sinless Man stand this kind of corruption?

Only by the Grace and Love of our Heavenly Father in Heaven could He bare the pains that He bare when my sins entered into His soul. That's why we must have the Holy Ghost today so we two can withstand the pains of sin that comes against us.

  16. Q1.(2:21) According to 2:21, in what sense did Jesus suffer for you personally?

Jesus suffered so that if I would believe in Him and except Him as my Savior that I could have eternal life no matter what kind of life I had lived or how many times I turned away the opportunity is still there. Therefore leaving us an example that we should treat others and love others just as He loved us.

  17. How does Christ's example speak to your situation?

Christ's example of humbleness really touches me every time I read it and it causes me to take another look at myself and see just how imperfect I am. Therefore causing me to fall on my knees and pray that God helps me to be stronger that I may be more like Him. God lets me know that if I trust Him then I can get through any situation I may have to go through.

How is your behavior going to be different because of what you see in Jesus' character in this passage?

I am going to try and seek Him more to do His will that I will be a greater light and example to this world that I live in so that others through me might see Jesus' character in me.

  18. How does being an employee "conscious of God" affect the way we act and react to injustice in the workplace?

When we are conscious of God then no matter what the circumstances are we will most likely think about what we will say or do before we just respond to someone else how ever they have treated us in the workplace or in the market place or anywhere.

Can a conscientious Christian be a complainer? No, but to many times they are.

Why or Why not? We are to be a reflection of Christ in everything we do and when Christ was reviled He reviled not again and we are to follow His example so that others around us can see the Love of God in us as they did in Christ.

How do you usually react to prolonged, unfair treatment at your work?

When I am treated unfair at my workplace and especially when its for a prolonged period of time it really hurts and sometimes I just try to get off to myself so that I can pray and think about what I should do or say and what God would have me do or say to address the situation. I find out that if I do these things everything usually works out for the better in the long run, it may not have no immediate response but the outcome is better.

  19. If we are to submit to our employers and respect them, what is that saying about God's expectation that we do a good job?

God tells us that we should do unto others as we would have them do unto us, and He also tells us that what you do unto the least of one of these little ones you have done it even to me. So if what we do unto others reflect how we treat God we should consider very carefully how we treat others, even our employers. We should always do our best in everything we do as if we are doing it for the Lord. For we should do everything we do to show the Love and mercy of God to man even our employers.

In what sense do we dishonor God when we don't give our full effort to our jobs?

When we fail to give our best on our jobs then we are not doing our best to the Lord by showing others God's true Love and mercy.

  20. In what ways is God's glory dependent upon us living submissive, obedient lives?

Matthew 5:7 says:"Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy." Therefore it is important that if we would like the mercy and glory of God then we should be merciful and shoe love to others for this is the only way others are going to see the love and mercy of God. So if we want to receive God's glory then we should be obedient and submissive to His will, His word. For even Paul tells us in 2Thes.3:10: That if a man would not work, neither should he eat. So if we want something then should we be willing to be obedient and do something to receive God's mercy and Glory or else we may miss it all together.

How is God hurt win we are rebellious?

I'm sure that God is very disappointed and hurt with us win we are rebellious just like we are as dad's and mom's when our children are rebellious, just even more so. For when we are rebellious to God then are we letting Him down and also keeping others from seeing and knowing the love of God that they may also turn unto God to receive mercy and His Glory.

  21. Q5.(2:12) How can the good deeds we commit by living openly as Christians increase God's praise. How does our "blending in" detract from God's praise?

When we live openly as Christians we are being a light unto others and leading them toward the light of Christ that maybe they also will receive Christ as their saviour and also give praises to God. And when a lost soul gets saved all the angels in heaven rejoice.

When we blend in to this world then there is no light to lead any to salvation which cast out all chance of praise to God that saddens the Lord after all that He has done for us and then we refuse to shine for Him. We should always live a Christian life openly every where we go and in everything we do.

  22. Q4.(2:11) Read 1Peter 2:11 carefully. The world tells us (1) to conform and (2) that sin won't hurt us. What does Peter tell us to combat these lies? How can this reminder help us?

Peter tell us to abstain from the sinful nature in this world and the lies that they tell us to do or not to do. We are to listen to God and Him only and have nothing to do with the sinful nature of this world.

If we will remember these things and practice it then we will have a greater chance of not falling for just anything that this world offers and tries to drag us into, that will do nothing but destroy us and lead us down a path of destruction which would cause to be miserable all of our lives and forever. But if we will yield to these words of Peter then we can escape this life of misery.
