  1. In the time this blessing was given your word stands. It was like a binding contract that could not be reversed. It was also Gods word to Jacob and Esau. Isaac was Gods spokesman to give the prophecy. Isaac was to leave a blessing to the oldest son. This was a blessing to fulfil the birthright that was given to you for being the first born. God used Isaac to fulfil his part for the destiny for Israel as a nation. The promise was made to Abraham.
  2. Jacob trusted God whole heartedly. Whatever you give me I will give you a tenth. He met God for himself it is no longer his father or Grandfathers God. God has become personal to Jacob. To trust God is to hand everything you have to God. So to commit a tenth of what God gives you shows God is first in your life.
  3. To set up a stone was to remind Jacob he had met God here. He made a choice to commit his life to God and worship him. To anoint with oil is an act of cleansing and consecration. To set oneself apart for God. Yahweh will be my God This pillar will be Gods house He will give a tenth of all God gives him He makes a commitment and Says, Yahweh will be my God. God becomes personal to Jacob. "I have met with God".
  4. Jacob was not alone. God is going to be with him. This blessing reveals to Jacob: Who God is, the promise given to Abraham renewed, Promise to multiply their decendents and they will be a blessing to the world. Jacob had met with God. He was given something for himself to trust in God, get to know God, he was not alone and everything will be fine for God is in charge. He just had to begin the walk with God and God would carry him and fulfil the blessing. His conversion gave him an opportunity to get to know God personally. It is his choice to walk with God, God opened the door for him.
  5. Jacob was now carrying the blessing of the birthright. Isaac blessed Jacob with the promise given to him by Abraham. He was to continue the inherited promise to this family and build a great nation for God. The main elements are : to be fruitful, the land of Canaan is yours and you will show the world who God is.
  6. I do not think any of these people acted in a spiritual way. Rebekah was trying to fulfil the prophecy that she was given. God had told Rebekah Jacob was to lead the family; she took things into her own hands. She did not remind Isaac about the prophecy, instead went about to deceive him. I do not believe Rebekah was a spiritual woman concerning this situation. If she had waited on God and asked what to do in this situation the whole circumstance would have turned out differently. Rebekahs actions had caused Jacob to live away from his family and to live a life where others began to deceive him. I do not see Isaac as a spiritual man either. Isaac would have known about the Lords prophecy that was given to Rebekah. So he should have asked the Lord what was his position in fulfilling the prophecy that was given to Rebekah. I do not see either Esau or Jacob as being spiritual. Esau would not have sold his birthright and Jacob would have never put his brother in the position to give way his birthright, both of them would have loved each other and wanted the best for each other. I also believe to be a spiritual person one needs to be asking the Lord about a situation rather than acting on our own thoughts, how we feel and imaginations. I personaly see a spiritual person is a person that seeks Gods heart.
  7. Hello Pastor Ralph Question 1 A consequence has a price to pay. Esua selling his birthright shows us that some decisions and sin in our lives has a lasting consequence. Selling the birthright represents giving up your inherited position and leadership in the family. Esua does not give thought towards the future nor the consequence that it has upon his life or anyone elses life. Esua is impulsive and impatient. He did not have respect and honour for the position he held as the oldest son. Jacobss character shows a selfish character. Jacob did not value Esaus position and his authority as the first son. He did not love his brother with the respect and honour due to him as the oldest son.
