  1. I believe he is writing about Jesus. Jesus would have more validity than a prophet because He is G-d in human form.
  2. In the past, we all were in darkness whether Jew or Gentile because we had no knowledge of G-d and His ways. However, when we come to know G-d through faith in Jesus, we become bearers of His light. He reminds them of this fact so that they will not regress back into darkness but instead, press forward into the knowledge of G-d to advance His kingdom. The power of darkness was the governing body of the past because we were in sin for the lack of knowing G-d. He compares this with the kingdom of His Son which is the present governing body of those of us who know Jesus. The "saints in light" are believers. The governing bodies refer to the ruling powers of authority over all people. Darkness is ruled by the Adversary and light is ruled by G-d.
  3. The first element is concerned with letting these believers know that they are being prayed for continually. The second element addresses specifics of those prayers. The third element reminds them of the results of those prayers. The results of those prayers are that they are filled with the knowledge of His will, wisdom, and spiritual understanding. He also tells them that he wants them to walk worthy, be fully pleasing, being fruitful ine every good work, and increase their knowledge of G-d. Another result of the prayers being sent to these believers is that they are strengthened according to G-d's power, patience with longsuffering and joy, and that they give thanks to the Father who has given them an inheritance. All of these results are equally important because they complement one another. Each result builds upon the other resulting in becoming spiritually equipped to deal with a fallen world. If one of these results is missing or ignored, the foundation crumbles because it becomes weak.
