  1. God obviously showed favor upon Abraham. With an Army of 318 and some good tacticts he was able to defeat a much larger force. In addition he retrieved everything and everyone that had been taken, without losing a single man. This definately indicates that he had the "Favor" of God. This could be looked at as God "bailing" him out of a problem that was of his own creation. Abraham was never susposed to take Lot with him. His instructions from God were to: And Jehovah said to Abraham, Go out of your country, and from your kindred, and from your father's house into a land that I will show you. Gen 12:1 MKJV While God "bailed" him out, Abraham's problems with Lot would've never happened had he listened to God from the start. How often do we end up with problems that are of our own creation? And we usually end up asking God to bail us out of something that we wouldn't be stuck in if we had just listened to him to start with.
  2. Did Abraham's riches come from God? Abraham wasn't susposed to go to Egypt, it could be said that the riches became a burden to him. Feeding all the people and livestock in a time of famine would've been very hard. Maybe the riches were from Satan as an attempt to cause Abraham to fail?
  3. Maybe, God was trying to get Abraham back to where he wanted him to be. Notice that God didn't speak to Abraham while he was in Egypt. God didn't speak to Abraham again until he had returned to the place that God had instructed him to go to in the first place.
  4. Have you considered that? Abraham was in danger because he didn't listen to or trust God in the first place. God didn't tell Abraham to go to Egypt. Abraham went to Egypt on his own in an attempt to escape the famine. Why didn't he stay where God had told him to go and Trust God to provide? Also, If he felt that he was susposed to go to Egypt, why did he feel the need to lie about Sarah? Why, didn't he trust in God to protect him? My answer: While Abraham was a man of faith, at this point he was still a man of weak faith, he hadn't yet learned to totally depend upon and trust in God
