  1. Why is animal sacrifice repulsive to modern people? How much of this has to do with a city vs. a farming way of life? A city dweller doesn't see how his dinner has met its end. As such he would probably not want to watch an animal get slaughtered. It's not part of his world. It would be shocking. However, I can't see desert herdsman getting too upset by slitting an animal's throat. I can see them feeling the pain caused by sacrificing a healthy animal because it's a financial loss.
  2. Why is anger an appropriate response to sin? Anger indicates that one recognizes sin for what it is. It indicates an understanding of right and wrong. Someone who doesn't get angry in response to sin...doesn't see the sin. What is the difference between capricious or uncontrolled anger and anger that brings about justice? Anger that brings about justice is based not on our own personal feelings but on an objective standard of right and wrong.
  3. How do you know that John the Baptist's statement about the Lamb of God refers to sacrifice?. How was the comprehensiveness of "sin of the world" so radical a concept? We know that John was referring to sacrifice by the fact that he said the Lamb of God "takes away the sin of the world". Prior to Jesus animals were used as sacrifices. The phrase "sin of the world" is speaking universally, about everyone collectively. That's what makes it such a radical concept.
